Threat Of The Double Eagle: A Star Fleet After-Action Report

So this is a Star Trek fanfic thing that takes inspiration from Star Fleet Battles – specifically inspiration from the X-Ship line, but not actually inspired by said X-ships. This almost comes across as more of a Star Fleet fanfic than a Star Trek one (despite similar origins, the two are largely divergent afterwards.)

Disclaimer: Paramount owns Star Trek. I do not.

Ronda Rousey To Be Inducted Into UFC Hall Of Fame

And she doesn’t look happy about it…

I don’t see a death glare; I see a glare of someone who doesn’t want to be here.

Maybe this WWE thing will have her learn how to do more facial expressions beyond just this blank stare of nothingness.

Still, good for her. She deserves the honor, I suppose.

Not an MMA guy, so I wouldn’t know.

Welp.

The Surprise E3-Related Post

So, as an obvious show of weakness, I decided to cave and check out some of the E3 coverage for the purposes of mild amusement. As a whole, I don’t expect a whole lot of stuff here to be of relative interest to me personally, but I’d figure this would be a nice way to kill a few minutes. I’m going to be a couple days behind on these posts if I decide to do more of them, but it shouldn’t be much of an issue since nothing I say here outside of whatever personal inflections might come about hasn’t already been said by others who follow this stuff more closely.

Regardless, here’s Part 1 of… something, I guess.

Brock Lesnar Breaks CM Punk Title Reign Record By Doing Fuck All

Former pro wrestler and now former UFC celebrity fighter CM Punk once held the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for 434 days, having defended the title 141 times before losing it to the Rock to set up a needless “Twice In A Lifetime” rematch with John Cena.

As of today, Brock Lesnar holds the record for the longest reigning WWE champion of the modern day, having defended the Red Belt title throughout this time a grand total of ten times.

Ten times.

TEN FUCKING TIMES.

If you fuckers want to believe that there is some semblance of so-called prestige in this toy belt that is supposed to be on par with the WWE World championship in the fictional universe of WWE, then I’d very much like to know what brand of drugs you’ve been shooting so I can avoid that stuff like the fucking plague. This belt is a joke, it has been a joke, it will always be a joke… it’s almost a farce at this point.

First champion had to relinquish the belt because he got a boo-boo.

And then you have Kevin Owens, a heel Quebecois. I barely remember anything he’s done with the belt and that’s sad because his was the most significant.

And then we have Goldberg, who broke two records in not only being the first American to hold the belt, but also being the oldest champion in that lineage, who held it for a couple weeks before dropping it to Brock at Mania and 435 days later, here we are.

Ten. Fucking. Times.

And now Roman Reigns is rumored to be getting another shot at Brock… at Summerslam no less. Because THIS TIME FOR SURE.

Actually, you know what? Maybe CM Punk should tuck his chin and go for another UFC fight… and then THIS TIME FOR SURE, he might actually win.

No Reprise Of The Summer Of Punk

Yeah, it’s that kind of post.

Our old buddy, our old pal Chick Magnet Punk has had an interesting couple weeks. He had the big trial against the Z-Pak Doctor and won. And then he had his second UFC fight and lost. And then Corey Graves decides to start a Twitter thing because that’s what you do when you want to come off as “cool” and “hip.”

Listen, I don’t care, either way. I will cherish the good memories Punk has given me through his wrestling endeavors and if he never wants to go back to that, then that’s okay. Whatever makes him happy going forward, I wish him all the best. And as much as we rail him about his UFC failures, he tried at least. And he should be applauded for trying… and I can say that with full confidence and full sincerity because I did not pay a single cent to buy a UFC show for the sole purpose of watching Punk fight… or flail… whatever the case may be.

Because believe or not, contrary to what a lot of the wrestling industry or whatever seems to believe, not everyone who watches wrestling also watches MMA. So trying to make wrestling more like MMA or vice versa is not going to make one like the other automatically.

That having been said, I feel like this should be his last fight. I don’t need to hear news of him trying again and chasing that elusive first win. He’s got money, he’s got other stuff to do that isn’t physical, he’s got a lovely wife, he’s got heart and tenacity, and he still has a head. I’d rather he lived his life than try to risk it in another lopsided endeavor. And besides, I don’t think the UFC world wants CM Punk to be the equivalent of the Roman Reigns “THIS TIME FOR SURE!” running joke that WWE audiences had to endure all these years.

So that was a thing.

Ataribox Trailer Features Illegitimate Gameplay Footage

Source Article here.

I’m a little late to the party and quite honestly, this revelation or pointing out of the obvious (if you prefer) may either sour you on the project going forward or it will not affect you in the slightest. If there is one thing that I’ve learned, it’s that that one game being played that isn’t Tempest or an old Atari game is apparently a remake of the 2600 classic Yars’ Revenge.

Mind you, a Yars Revenge remake from 2012. A remake designed for mobile devices and web browsers… as demonstrated here in this very old blog. Hell, you can play that very same Yars Revenge remake from 2012 featured in that Ataribox trailer right here… provided you have a good working version of FLASH!

Soooo… we’re about a week in, the campaign has garnered less than three million, and there’s already potential cracks that may lead some to believe that this thing might not be all it claims to be. You can tell how inspired with confidence I am at the moment.

So add another bit to the big ol’ Ataribox video… and maybe let’s do that joke video along the way if possible.

For Those Curious… The Ataribox Numbers

Ataribox’s IndieGoGo campaign has so far accumulated $2.7 million, just shy of surpassing the 3 million mark… well, that’s rather anticlimatic considering the somewhat strong start. However, if recent Youtubers are to be believed, apparently Ataribox might not be on the up and up. I’d elaborate on this further, but I’m still trying to find a source for this information before I comment. If that’s the case, then… welp.

Still, I might have a little fun with this thing via a video this week, while I save the other video that I wanted to get out for a while now for when the campaign terminates at the end of the month (or earlier). I thought this was going to be a quick thing and it turns out to be a potentially huge video that I need to split in half.

As a bonus, I thought of the idea to try and keep track of this campaign’s progress, by recording how much it made at what times. Stuck with the idea last weekend for the most part before I promptly forgot about it, because apparently I had better, more important things to do during the week like produce a stool test or something.  So this is what I recorded:

June 02 09:50 a.m. EST: $2,327,376
June 02 04:14 p.m. EST: $2,327,376
June 02 05:25 p.m. EST: $2,367,076
June 03 11:07 a.m. EST: $2,410,371
June 03 06:45 p.m. EST: $2,445,373
June 04 12:33 a.m. EST: $2,461,554
June 07 10:01 a.m. EST: $2,764,620

As you could probably tell, it wasn’t a huge, colossal leap and I was so certain that this thing would surpass 3 million by this point that I was ready to announce that there were new paddle controllers on the way. So maybe that gag video might be worth a damn after all.

As for that other piece of news… well, more on that later, I suppose.

About The Hardtype

Someone over at the House Show stream inquired about that Castlevania HardType ROM hack that I was working on, which is a surprise to learn that somebody remembers that thing. Well, I’d share some news here, but the truth is that I haven’t really touched it all that much; what with the leg and the other stuff. But I’m hoping to change that soon.

I did get around to giving another quick playthrough and perhaps the time away benefitted in making a couple “key” changes to the enemy placement. Sometimes, overloading a stage with enemies isn’t such a smart idea and makes the game more frustrating than fun. So I ended up toning it down a bit for a couple segments. Make no mistake; this is going to be a challenging romp one way or another, but it won’t be balls to the wall, jump off a pier difficult.

In any event, I’d imagine a couple more spits and polishes before I deem it ready for some semblance of distribution. I’d imagine it goes up in October and I end up posting on Zophar, though I wouldn’t mind making an attempt to submit this to that other Romhacking site.

We’ll see on that camp.

Power Rangers Reflections Redux #08 – Once A Ranger

I wanted to hold off the repost of Once A Ranger until we got our 25th anniversary episode… that I’d never get to see until it hits Netflix next year… and that last bit is why I’m getting it out of the way now. Eventually, the plan is to cover the other anniversary specials – both Forever Red and the Legendary Farce – but for now, I present you with this rehashed (and slightly re-edited) repost of one of the more horrible episodes of Power Rangers and it’s only fitting it’s from an otherwise horrible season of Power Rangers.
