Autodesk Sketchbook #02 – Phone’s Sketchbook

This is just a quick doodle on that Autodesk Sketchbook app that lets you do doodles on your phone. This was done with a couple “glowing” paint things and I wanted to test out the stylus I picked up for a couple bucks. It’s not much, but it’s something, I suppose.

By the way, it’s supposed to be a thumbs-up, not a flipping of the proverbial bird.

Soul Of The Dragon: Kyle Higgins' Tommy Wankfest Continues

So Boom Studios recently announced another Power Rangers comic book and wouldn’t you know it; it’s yet another Tommy-centric comic book written by Kyle Higgins. Oh boy, because clearly we haven’t had enough of the Tommy Wankfest from Mr. Higgins, what with the alt-universe “Evil Tommy” bad guy that reeks of unoriginal fanficcy tripe (we’ve all done that bit, even me).

I was fine with the focus when the book started because the transitional period of the Green Ranger and the addition of a new member of the team was something that was never really touched on. And then you toss in an alternate universe ruled by an evil Ranger that everyone knew was an evil Tommy because of course it was. And then we had to find a way to keep that worthless character around and make him the central villain of a major comic event.

Look, I’m going to reserve judgment on the whole Shattered Grid thing until it reaches its eventual conclusion and I’d imagine I’m probably going back to the beginning of the series and giving some quick thoughts on each chapter. And this older Tommy comic might give me a couple chuckles here or there (though to be honest; I’ve been that road as well, so that’s not quite original territory, either.)

But I’m warning you folks; if the end of Shattered Grid isn’t Kyle Higgins inserting himself into the story and giving Jason Frank a blowjob, then all the hype would’ve have been for nothing.

A Glimpse Into Past Fanwankery

A piece of troubled teenhood, when my days in high school were spent doodling quick little comics with such silly concepts and ideas as a crossover between Street Fighter characters and Power Rangers characters. The artwork, as seen above depicting Ryu freeing a Ranger from Bison’s energy tube thing, is crude and the story is perhaps more so, but it’s not a far-fetched idea from what’s being done with the phone game now.

And then I went ahead and turned it into an absurd fanfic that was eventually posted to the world and stuff. The funny thing was that at some point, I actually did try to piece together a more “serious” story that crossed over the universes of the Street Fighter II animated movie with the first MMPR feature film in a situation that allowed for a little more leeway than trying to work within the constrains of the bloated universes the source material became, but it never really went beyond the first couple chapters and even then… not much there to go on.

Maybe someday, I might post those up here if I still have them. I doubt that I do, but hey, something extra for the blog, I suppose.

Beginning Work On the Pixel Player Overview…

Sometime ago, I showed a Pixel Player device that I picked up for a few bucks and opted to make a video on the thing. This video takes time to make and I’ve started recording footage as well as putting together the “opening spiel” of sorts.

If you’ve seen my overview on the MyArcade GoGamer Portable system – the one I posted a year or so ago that lasted about as long as an old WWF Pay-Per-View – then you have a fairly good idea on what to expect. It’s going to take a good long while, but I’m hoping to have it ready to go this year. And unlike last year, I’m not doing the multi-segment thing for Dailymotion. It’s going straight to Youtube in its uncut format.

Anyway, we’ll see how this turns out. Who knows? Maybe if I manage to get this one out of the way, I can get around to putting together overviews for the other two plug-and-play things I’ve got laying around.

TNA Destination X 2007

Consider this a bonus musings… and on an old TNA PPV no less.

I have the show on DVD-R from like ages ago, as it was one of the very few TNA PPVs (not counting the early weekly shows) that I actually got to watch live. Much to my surprise, I never did repost the old prediction page onto this blog like I did some of the others and since I had the show on tape so to speak, I decided to give it a watch and thus find myself doing a fresh write-up with fresh eyes. So that’s something…

By the way, this was a chance discovery, as I was looking for some other disc in my archive and I came across this recording from way back when. I’m almost tempted to dig even dipper to see if I can find some other TNA shows that I might’ve caught on tape (or disc, as the case may be.)

WWE Survivor Series 2003

So we have a co-branded PPV in Survivor Series, where one brand is planting the seeds to its eventual future, while over at the other brand, it’s business as usual. If you’ve been following these Classic Musings or even following the 2003 WWE product on the Network, then you probably already know which is which… but for the rest of you… well, it’ll become readily apparent.
