WCW Monday Nitro (Oct. 23rd, 1995) – Abominable Debut… NOT!
We open the show with Randy Savage struggling against some New Japan guy whose name I don’t remember before getting a comeback and hitting the elbow for the win. This is followed by a Dungeon Of Doom promo threatening the end of Hulkamania and then that’s followed by another Hulk Hogan in black promo, who continues to tease his evil side that we’d be more familiar with in later years, but that’s besides the point.
And there’s a block of ice ready to burst or something.
Eddie Guerrero and Mr. JL defeated Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit with an assist from an injured Alex Wright, who tripped up Malenko with his crutch, allowing JL to nail Malenko with the dealiest move in modern day pro wrestling: the dreaded ROLL UP FOR THE PIN. And then Brian Pillman comes out and nails Guerrero on his way to the back. A pretty solid match with four talented workers. It’s worth noting that JL is subbing for Alex Wright, who was supposed to be Guerrero’s partner, but was injured. Nothing against Wright, but we got a slightly better match out of it with the swap.
The main event of the show Sting & Lex Luger duke it out against Harlem Heat in a pretty ho-hum main event that saw Sting pin Booker after landing a flying lariat. This is followed by the Giant coming to attack the babyfaces, which prompts Hogan and Savage to chase after Giant… but then the ice break and out comes THE YET-AY… who is a tall guy in a mummy costume… thank fuck they called it THE YET-AY and not the Yeti, which is the name of the abominable snowman, not a mummy. You morons.
Anyway, the YET-AY emerges and the feed dies… and that was Nitro, everyone… the go-home show for Halloween Havoc… was the debut of the YET-AY. I sure can’t wait to watch that PPV!
Review #1246 – Darkwing Duck (NES)
Let’s get dangerous… by revisiting the days when Disney didn’t sell you total fucking garbitch.
Spooky Week Review Schedule
Because nothing screams spookier than crazed madman Bill Shatner in his youth. Probably saw that one episode of Strange New Worlds with the muppet Pike… what are the odds that there’s also a puppet Kirk, but it looks like Bill rather than the new guy because they ran out of budget?
Anyhoo, here is your video schedule for next week’s spooky countdown thing from Sunday to Friday, which is Halloween. Will there be something on Saturday? Who knows? We’ll see.

No More Spooky Month
Later today will see the Darkwing review at the usual time and Friday will also see a review because of course, it will. As for Saturday… hope you’re a fan of reading, because there’s quite a bit of it.
Should be fun… or a disaster waiting to happen.

Mega Man 2 (MSI Plug N Play) – Aborted Run
Recently did some cleaning and found this MSI Mega Man 2 Plug-N-Play unit that was featured on the main channel years ago; one of the early Sunday Gimmick Table entries. Amazingly, it had batteries still and I gave it a go. Spoiler alert: it does not end well because the stick does not play well. But I went far enough that you can notice some graphical glitches towards the end as a result of whatever hackery was done. Maybe some day, I’ll give this another shot.
This is a DVD Rip, so some frames are missing… and yes, it’s not a good run… because the thing you play it on isn’t very good, but it does work… with the same batteries that I plugged in years ago.
For those interested, one of the early Sunday Gimmick Table videos featured this piece of business. You can check it out by clicking here.
Quick Programming Note
No review today or Friday, but there will be one on Wednesday.
A marathon of reviews will begin on Saturday and continue up until Halloween to close out the month of spooky. After that, I hope you’ve been playing Atari today, because that’s all we’re playing in November.
Mercedes Now Has 12 Belts And Lots Of Dirt Apparently
Source: https://www.f4wonline.com/news/aew/mercedes-mone-wins-12th-consecutive-championship-in-canada/
So apparently, Mercedes Mone now has another belt to add to her collection of belts. She is literally Dozen Belt Mone. Can anyone explain to me what dirt she has on the wrestling business that these promotions keep booking her to win belts? And what happens when she eventually has to drop all these things… IF she drops these thing?
Meanwhile, there are WWE fans that are crying about how they wish Sasha Banks would “come home” where she belongs. I dare those fans to try – genuinely TRY – to come up with any sort of incentive for her to come back and play second fiddle to whatever NXT project they’ve got going on or possibly having her feud with Nia Jax. Honestly, if I was Mercedes, I would never give it a first thought considering the run I’m having right now. She’s doing exactly what she needs to raise her stock. A WWE run at this point would be beneath her.
Meanwhile, whatever happened to Ron Killings? You know, the guy that WWE released and people made such a big stink over it that they eventually hired him back. What’s he been up to lately? What amazing run has he been on that he couldn’t do out in the open where the possibilities were endless? When was the last time he was on TV in any meaningful fashion? That guy could have done some great things outside of the WWE box and now he’s off TV. I hope you morons are happy.
Hey, whatever Mercedes is doing right now is working for her and I can’t imagine her being unhappy with the run she’s been on. Trust me. She’s in no hurry whatsoever to “come home” and job to Tiffy Time any time soon nor should she. She’s doing just fine.
NES 40th Anniversary Review Compilation
In honor of 40 years of NES, here’s a quickly thrown together compilation of past NES reviews featured on this channel highlighting some of the highlights and none of the pain. We’ll save the pain for another time if you’re really that anxious for it.
A couple notes: first off, none of the HD stuff is included; just the old 4:3 stuff. Did this mostly to save time on rendering. Secondly, this isn’t a Top XX NES Games or whatever; it’s just a collection of old stuff done in the past. If X game is missing, I probably haven’t covered it. Finally, I opted for the shorter reviews and not the much longer ones, so none of the Dragon Warriors or Final Fantasy stuff in there.
Ten Years Since Letterman Retired
I almost regret missing the date because it passed during my trouble recovery and mental anguish, but 2025 marks ten years since late night legend David Letterman aired his final Late Show, bringing a historic career spanning three decades plus to a close.
I missed out on the early Late Night stuff and first watching Letterman about a couple years into his CBS run, though thanks to the wonders of Youtube clips both official and not, I’ve been able to catch up on some of this stuff. But for the longest time, I had always considered myself a Letterman guy. Besides the fact that we both share the same first name, the guy had a brand of humor and gruff personality that appealed to me. He would react to these sorts of ridiculous things in a way that had him question his life choices. Even when he had toned down his rougher patches, he still had an edge to him that hit that nice balance. Leno had jokes and a chin. Conan had zaniness. Dave had a sardonic wit.
Most of all, there was a gravity to Dave in that his words had some weight and meaning to them. Someone who had an air of ambivalence and outright disdain for his surroundings, often reacting in a sarcastic manner, would eventually being the longest tenured performer of his field. His desire to entertain for the masses rather than play cheerleader to whatever political affiliations he had meant that when he talked about serious issues, you were more inclined to take him seriously… before he eventually dropped a wry comment or observation that brought the whole house down.
Just as there will never be another Johnny Carson, there will never be another David Letterman… though you can probably have a bunch of Jay Lenos, Jimmy Fallons, Jimmy Kimmels, Lonnie Donegans, Craig Killborns, Seth Meyers. Those guys are practically interchangeable.
Dave is not.
I miss Dave.
Later.
Review #1245 – Wayne Gretzky And The NHLPA All-Stars (Super NES)
Back in the 90s, during the height of his career, Wayne Gretzky played in Pac Land and was made honorary Pac-Man for the day… thus this fits whatever Pac theme we’ve inadvertently followed here.
But yeah, this was a quick one that I wanted to get out of the way for a while and this seemed like the perfect spot to slot it in before we get to the heavy stuff.
Next week, we return to the world of widescreen… save for one or two diversions along the way.
