Happy New Year, everyone!
Needless to say that I’ve recovered from my musings over that Bash At The Beach show that I’m suddenly in a good mood thanks to the new year… or maybe this was written ahead of time and I’m just dropping this opening bit as a clever means of transition from the morbid mood that last show left me in.
Thankfully, we’re starting the New Year with a quick recap of today’s edition of 30 Year Old WCW Monday Nitro… which we’ll get out of the way now so that the more important post of the day – the annual Winners And Losers list for 2025 – can be posted about a half hour later and get most of the attention.
In the meantime, we have WCW Nitro from the Omni in Atlanta, where Ric Flair is set to defend the WCW World title against the Orange Goblin himself, Hulk Hogan. Will this match work for the Huckster, brother? Let’s find out.
But first, Lord Steven Regal defeated Chris Benoit via roll-up in a short five minute match. I’d complain about the match being too short, but they’d have better, longer matches in WWE… and also, anything involving Chris Benoit will… never mind. Anyway, this brings out the other Horsemen to bicker, where Arn points out that the whole point of the Horsemen’s existence is to keep the World title on Flair at all costs… well, he’s being honest about it.
Sting and Lex Luger defeated the Super Assassins – Barbarian and some other dude in a mask. And the match between Hogan and Flair ends in a DQ when Hogan pulls some brass knux out of Arn’s trunks and punches people with it or something. Oh yeah, happy New Year, kids in 1996. This is the sort of bullshit you can expect going forward from World Championship Wrestling unless they can somehow keep Hogan busy with other shit… wouldn’t THAT be nice?
I sure hope these shows pick up steam because this Hogan horseshit is really starting to kill things for me.
