So there’s word of a bunch of former Rangers being brought back into the fold for this anniversary season of Power Rangers, which will use the Gokaiger footage where all the Sentai teams are fighting a bunch of mooks. Although unlike Gokaiger, which gave the fight away on the first episode, we’re only getting teases of it and presumably this comes along later. Probably when we get to using the Gokaiger footage because this current Megaforce series is using footage from the prior Sentai series, Goseiger.
Naturally, word came around that there’d be returning Power Ranger actors for this special. One of those, as we’ve learned recently via the source herself, is NOT original Pinky Amy Jo Johnson, who replied to questions regarding her participation in said event with the following:
“FYI I’m not doing the PR reunion for many reasons,” wrote Johnson, “The biggest THEY NEVER OFFERED! hee hee… Ah well, I’m there in spirit!”
Well, of course, she’ll be there in spirit. She’ll be represented and portrayed by unidentified stunt man in pink suit. And so I will be there in spirit, being portrayed by the sky who will float by as this thing is taking place and cast my gaze towards something more interesting… like the dog taking a dump in the backyard.
Yeah, that’s a bit of a bummer. As much as it would have been a long shot – I’m assuming Saban is still non-union at this point, so that might be another reason why she wasn’t asked – tee hee hee, I guess. On the other hand, maybe we’re looking too much into this. Assuming she had been asked and she agreed, was she going to be a guest spot on an episode or would she have been brought in to fill in a suit for a supposedly big moment?
Honestly, you want any returning Ranger – especially one from the early seasons that gave the franchise its wings to soar – to be involved in a big deal. Would you really have gotten that? Or was she just going to be a talking head for a brief spell?
As much as people are looking forward to this thing, I’m a little more cynical in this whole deal. This isn’t another Forever Red situation where it’s a mostly original adventure bringing back a bunch of these faces. It’s just filling bodies for a mostly Sentai stuntshow that lasts a minute or so at most. I want to be hopeful about this, but not THAT hopeful.
Oh well… wishing Amy Jo all the best in her future endeavors.
