Review #1338 – Sonic & Knuckles (Genesis)

I am legally required to identify this video upload as a “video review of Sonic & Knuckles for Sega Genesis.”

Because calling this “a cavalcade of technical calamities and seemingly endless hours of video capture and audio dubbing to say that any game that hosts a level as insipidly dreadful as Sandopolis should be disqualified from being deemed the greatest at anything” doesn’t quite roll off the tongue.

This was meant for yesterday as a special Sunday upload, but the fact is that a lot of stuff had to be redone before it was marginally within acceptable parameters. Honestly, if there was a better note to take a week long break on, this would be it.

Reviews will resume on July 6th.

Review #1337 – Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (Genesis)

Raise the flame shields, kids. We’re diving into the holy cash cow of 2D Sonic games… or was that Sonic CD? Who even knows anymore?

Before anyone asks, yes, there is a means of getting vintage Sonic & Knuckles Collection from 1997 running on modern Windows. There’s also a thing that creates your own save files so that you don’t have to. These are required tools that saved me a lot of anguish for what are essentially throwaway video fodder.

Perhaps some day [REDACTED] will get their time in the sun. For now… the Sonic 3 video review. Sonic & Knuckles video coming out tomorrow night… maybe earlier if you’re lucky.

Then I’m off.

Review #1277 – Valis I (Genesis)

We return to where it all began… except not really because this is a remake. We’re also breaking from the Valis Collection grips by playing this on the Antstream streaming service, which actually held up quite nicely until the last stage playthrough where it eventually shat the bed. If nothing else, I’m getting some mileage out of this Antstream thing and hopefully, it continues to be a thing for the future, especially as it relates to this hobby of mine.

Review #1273 – Valis III (Genesis)

After what seems like an eternity, our dive into the world of Valis begins with the game that actually got me into the world of Valis in the first place… chronological progression and confusion be damned.

The video footage is going to vary quite a bit because we’re pulling from a variety of sources here. Most of it is Retron 5-based, but there’s also some samplings of Antstream footage and even some DVD Recording To OBS digital alchemy. Just something to bare in mind as we venture into finding new ways of making use of old footage that has no business being used in the modern age, but really, if you’ve been watching this space for a while, you should know better than that.

Review #1200 – Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Genesis)

Yes, it took us five hundred and eighteen reviews to get to Sonic 2. By this point, we might cover Sonic 3 in six years.

Also, I considered making this a mystery review and not reveal the game outright, but people these days are genuinely stupid and would accuse me of clickbait… to which I say it’s only bait if you took it.
