Abandoned Castlevania II Fic – The Second Quest (Part 4)

(2025 Update: The final chapter I wrote on this project before it was eventually abandoned… until it wasn’t. Turns out as I was cleaning these up, something interesting happened that I hadn’t done in years; I wrote another chapter or two… and then I wrote a couple more after that… and then I promptly forgot about the whole deal until it was too late to make an event out of it. So I’m hoping next year, those chapters are ready to go and maybe open the door to something new… ish. Maybe? We’ll see. Don’t get your hopes up.)

Abandoned Castlevania II Fanfic – The Second Quest (Part 2)

Digging through the hard drive archives and came across this thing, which is an old follow-up to Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest that I had started writing and eventually abandoned. I’ll be posting the few completed chapters I have online and maybe even include notes on what would’ve been the rest of the story… but unless something happens that gives me a sudden urge of creative inspiration, don’t expect a complete story out of this.

Abandoned Castlevania II Fanfic – The Second Quest (Part 1)

Castlevania: Harmony of Sorrow… or is it Aria of Dissonance?

I got the Castlevania Double-Pack for GBA and man are those games fun. I had played Harmony before but never Sorrow, so that was a good experience. Sadly, Konami didn’t see fit to re-release Circle of the Moon, which I thought was one of the better GBA releases (though I may be in the minority on that one). So for the sake of things: my take on the games…

HARMONY: I found the game to be fairly easy for the most part (except for that Maxim bastard at the end), but it was still a fun experience. Never before had a game kept me up until two in the morning. Never happened before, I swear to God. That big a geek, I know. On top of that, the 8-Bit Simon in the Boss Rush mode kicked ass too.

ARIA: Better graphical quality than Harmony, which had a fairly muddy look to it. The various implementation of soul powers make me wonder why they hadn’t taken this path with Alucard in Symphony.

Overall, I’m happy with both games. Definitely a worthwhile purchase if you don’t already own them.

Around 1987, Nintendo created several arcade games that each featured a slightly different Nintendo game. Some of the popular games at the time received this treatment. One of them, conveniently enough, was Castlevania.

Dave’s Old NES and Game Boy Reviews (The Complete Package)

(2026 Note: Dug from the archives of a couple hundred floppy disks, I bring to you some text from my very first website that was published way back in 1999. There’s no way in hell that I’m recreating the entire site for the full experience, but I can bring over the old reviews, which haven’t seen the light of day since mid-2000… ish. For the sake of simplicity – as well as some good ol’ fashioned housecleaning – all the reviews are compiled under a single post, but still divided up into different categories. If I can manage a makeshift navigational system so that you can jump over to these things much more easily, I’ll do that here. In the meantime, enjoy my earliest web postings or point and laugh. Either will do.)
