The BTS On The Cancelled Mega Man Universe Game

Source: https://www.rockman-corner.com/2021/08/how-overambition-and-mismanagement.html

Anyone remember Mega Man Universe? That game which was largely going to be a remake of Mega Man 2 (again) and would feature a level editor, character customization, and a really, really awful art style before it was eventually cancelled along with a bunch of other Mega Man stuff. Well, Rockman Corner was able to hook up with a few people who were part of that team and unveil the details behind what was going on with that game and why things turned out the way they did.
It’s only part of a much larger story from a few anonymous sources and like all stories with anonymous sources, there is a grain of salt that might need to be taken here. But it does jive with the Inafking’s personality; bringing to light the somewhat lofty ambitions and less-than-pure intentions behind the development of this game… and if nothing else, it only makes the story of the later Mighty No. 9 debacle even more of a clusterfuck, as there were lessons to be learned with Universe that could’ve saved the other game, but weren’t.
Regardless, it’s an interesting read.

My Space Jam Story

I may have told this story before, but I figured why not.

Space Jam was a thing that happened and I remembered going to the movie theater to see the film when I was a younger fellow. I don’t know why… well, actually I do remember. One of my cousins who happened to be my older brother’s godchild wanted to see the movie and so he offered to take and I tagged along.

So we arrive at the movie theater, we buy our tickets, grabbed some popcorn and refreshments, and then headed into the movie hall. The striking thing about this hall was that it was completely empty with nigh a soul in sight… well, save for the three chuckleheads who walked in. So we figured we showed up a bit early, took some good seats, and talked amongst ourselves.
Roughly a moment later, the lights dimmed and the screen began to flicker the usual preshow commercials and trailers. Turns out we were the only ones to be watching Space Jam in this empty movie theater. We got a good laugh out of it. It ended up being one of the more memorable movie going experiences I ever had.
Anyway, we saw the movie alone in that big hall. I think we enjoyed it at the time. I could barely remember the damn thing now.
So is the new one any good?

NWA Hard Times 2020

How about that? Turns out I had one more ready to go… I guess. Took me a while, but I got around to seeing Billy Corgan’s NWA’s Hard Times PPV from January 2020, which turned out to be the last PPV event that the NWA ran before the world went to shit. I saw this some time ago and started on the musings, but never really finished it until now.

So let’s look at the last pre-prevailing circumstances-era NWA PPV called HARD TIMES.

Slowly But Surely

In case you haven’t heard the opening spiel of the canned edition of the DTM-Cast that was uploaded this past Sunday, I’ve been dealing with some health issues the prior week, which explains the radio silence. It’s nothing too serious and things are getting better, but I’ve been off the radar for a while and I’m slowly getting back into the groove of things.

Videos will be coming up eventually. I want to maintain the two reviews a week schedule, but when those videos will be up is another story. The uploading of old commentaries over to the Archive channel will be a slow process. There’s a couple other things I want to touch on.

PPV Musings will be on hold for a while… mostly because nothing is ready yet and I’m not even sure that I’d even want to watch Summerslam this Saturday. I’ve got a couple other ideas in the interim and they’re not even related to wrestling or gaming. Yay, something different!

Bare with me, folks. It’s going to take a while to get things back to a semi-regular basis. Hopefully by September… in the meantime, I’ll try to keep up with some daily posts here and there. Maybe find some old content to add in the interim.

AEW Rampage… I Didn’t Watch It

So AEW debuted their newest one-hour program – RAMPAGE – this past Friday night on TNT. It is a program that featured Christian Cage defeating Kenny Omega for the Impact World title, thus making this show the largest attended show to witness a TNA title bout, Miro beat some masked jobber who gets hired afterwards, Britt retaining the title and apparently introducing a new bodyguard that I’ve never heard of. Clearly, AEW is making an effort to make this as much of a must-see show as possible, seeing as they’re hoping to prop up big numbers for this coming Friday’s Chicago show.

Sadly, RAMPAGE debuted not on an actual TSN channel that I can watch, but rather their cruddy streaming service that I probably used once or twice and gave up on because its performance is comparable to that of the Jets’ playoff run this year. Not even five minutes in and it starts to chug. So I’m like… whatever.

Sounded like a pretty fun show and seeing Omega’s first big loss open up the show while also giving Christian Cage legs as a viable challenger for the AEW title at All Out to substitute the missing Hangman Page, who is out expecting his first child any time now – congrats to him and his missus, by the way.

Apparently, the second episode will air on one of the TSN channels this week… so if that ends up happening, I will definitely be giving that show a go.

Review #809 – Mario’s Picross (Game Boy)

Sometimes, you come across a game that you didn’t really appreciate or understand as a younger fellow, but when you get to play it as a much older fellow, you get a little more out of. I’m not sure if Mario’s Picross is one of those games, but I can say that this is one of those games that I could play now because I’m somehow more patient with things.

Yeah, that last part doesn’t quite compute… you know what? Forget I said all that and just watch the video.

WWE Evolution (Oct. 2018 PPV)

I could have added a more flattering picture of Cold Ronda, but that’d be an impossible task.

Welp… so, here we are. From October 2018, the WWE’s first and (thus far) only all-women PPV featuring women’s matches and such.

So here’s the deal; 2018 was the year WWE started doing shows in Saudi Arabia, beginning with the Oil Rumble early on. People were upset because, among other things we won’t get into here, women weren’t allowed to compete in the country. So in what was clearly a carefully-planned public relations move to try and curtail any negative press from those Saudi shows, WWE concocted this all-women Evolution show to try and get people talking. Apparently, it was a success – or so people say – but beyond this one show, there was never another Evolution show… probably because the Saudis eventually allowed WWE to have one women’s match on their WWE Blood Money shows.

Or maybe it’s because of someone else… I don’t know. I might be giving it away.

Anyway, I don’t know why they didn’t do another show. I could venture guess and assume they’re waiting for Cold Ronda to come back from hibernation before they hold another one because she’s the real draw… next to Charlotte, of course. Honestly, there are a lot of ideas that they’ve tried with the Network that seemed good on paper and even partly in execution, but were promptly forgotten about and discarded as such. But I can’t help but feel a bit cynical about this show and the circumstances that led to its one outing. As much as as the women praised the event and wanted another one, the belief that this was a purely PR-driven move and not something that was thought up with any genuine interest had kept me from giving this the time of day.

Years have passed and, for better or worse, I decided to give this a shot and see if it was really as good as people made it out to be. Partly because of the bad taste left by that match from that TNA show last week, partly because of the NWA women’s show coming, and also partly because of the possible rumor that Queen Of The Ring will happen and have some presence at the next Blood Money event in Saudi Arabia. So, hey, why not?

And no, I will NEVER watch any of the Blood Money PPVs. Only reason I saw the first one because I was bed-ridden and didn’t have the clicker. All the rest can go fly a kite for all I care.
