THE BITE COMMENTARY #06 – 25 Years Of Classic Game Room

2024 is the year that Classic Game Room celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Well, it’s more accurate to say that twenty five years ago, Classic Game Room was born… to say that there is any celebrating of the occasion would be a bit of a fib… at least, on the part of Classic Game Room.

For what it’s worth, Mark Bussler – host and creator of CGR – is still around. He still has a CGR website that still talks about CGR and showcases CGR content. But he’s more focused on this music-making and publishing ventures, which make more money than the CGR videos do… fair enough from a business standpoint… but still sad to see in the long term.

I’ve been wanting to do a thing on CGR’s 25th anniversary… and truth be told, I had started on this a while back after having watched the CGR 20th anniversary video release that seldom few people know about because it’s a paid collection of CGR reviews – some of which may or may not have made it to the CGR Forever streams that were a thing for a while. I actually started writing this piece earlier this year, with the intent of finishing it and posting it last month. Other stuff came up and this was ultimately forgotten about, but I suddenly remembered that this was a thing and… well, I have thoughts on Classic Game Room, the journey of the show, my enjoyment of it, and well… other such things like possible futures or lack thereof.

Needless to say, I’m going to bounce around all over the place in this supposed narrative. I’m also going to be quite salty in some regards, which may result in some choice words being used that I would otherwise refrain from using. If you don’t mind any of that stuff… well, do dive in.

THE BITE COMMENTARY #05 – John Luck Picard And The Taint Of Sour Mead

It was six years ago that the announcement was made that Sir Patrick Stewart would be returning to the role that made him a household name – Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise – in a new series bearing the character’s name. There was excitement en masse that the new regime of Star Trek would be returning to the world they remembered.

My reaction to the news was cautious optimism.

THE BITE COMMENTARY #04 – My Disenchantment With Modern Video Gaming

Every once in a while, I am often asked why I don’t delve into modern video gaming stuff. Whether it’d be playing the current games, following the current trends, or just trying to keep up with all the current happenings in the modern video gaming scene, there seems to be the occasional inquiry about why I lean more towards classic/retro/vintage/ancient video games from decades ago.

It typically boils down to two things:

A) I prefer the older shit. Not just with video games, but a lot of entertainment media in general, whether it’d be movies, comics, television, or whatnot.

B) I genuinely, honestly don’t give a shit about the current scene.

A lot of point B stems from a lack of interest in what’s available on the market that’s considered the standard offering. Your so-called AAA offerings that are high in production values, marketing bollocks, and other such things. A lot of that stuff simply doesn’t interest me enough to fork over money and on the few occasions that I do dive into the modern scene, it’s only for a fleeting moment before I go back to something old and ancient that keeps my attention for a little longer.

But another part of point B also stems from the fact that… well, let’s be honest. The current gaming scene is a bit of a mess… and I’m not sure that I’d want to be part of that in any way, shape, or form.

THE BITE COMMENTARY #01 – The Final Word On McMahon

So, you’re probably wondering why, on the eve of Wrestlemania 40 Weekend, I’ve decided to touch on this dirty piece of business. Well, it’s pretty simple. I just finished my Ramblemania Rewind series where I just rewatched and redid all my Ramblemania musings… and while I’ve enjoyed revisiting these shows, I can’t help but feel that the experience has been somewhat tainted due to the actions of one man. And for the past couple months, I’ve been largely silent on the matter because, well, I want to keep this blog on the upbeat side of things. Talk about things I like, praise the good stuff, poke some fun at the bad stuff, and just generally shoot some breeze.

The focus of this particular post is none of the above. In fact, it is quite deprived. And it is something that has tainted a lot of good memories for me. A lot of good memories regarding a form of entertainment that has been a large part of my life for the better part of three decades. A form of entertainment that was brought to heights of popularity thanks to the vision of one man. A man who has done more to propel this form of entertainment to new heights than any man could hope to achieve. A man whose influence permeates every aspect of this form of entertainment.

A man whose legacy is forever tainted due to recent circumstances.

And I’ve been silent on this issue because, yes, I want to keep maintain some sense of fun on this blog… but also because I simply didn’t have the words. What could I say about this business that hadn’t already been said? What was I feeling about this whole thing? How does this affect a lifetime of memories, of which this man was a part of? I didn’t quite have the words… but eventually, I found a few words. And I wanted to share those words before Wrestlemania 40 took place. And I wanted to
