Ten years ago… on this very day, it was June 6th, 2006.
Or 06-06-06 as the cool kids used to call it.
Considering one half of this domain name and my chosen online username that has been a thing since 1999, you’d think that I would have done something notable for the occasion. And I guess I did; I brought back my long defunct Bite commentary series for the first time since 2004. That first started life back in 2002 as a side thing for my fledging DTM Webstation (or Dave’s Webpage – it would alternate between the two in between site redesigns every six months) and was my main outlet for expressing a bunch of thoughts on a single page before DTM Blog became a thing.
Even when that was a thing, the Bite commentaries continued to be that main outlet. Mostly because I was still under the mindset of uploading webpages via HTML rather than using Tripod’s less than stellar blog posting tools. Funny thing is that while the Webstation was almost always under a state of redress, the Bite and Blog would be the only constants in the universe.
And then in 2009, I started up this Blogger page, which made doing blog posts in long form much more efficient and convinced me to give up the website as well as the other blog altogether. It also, eventually, brought about the end of the second Bite commentary run in 2012. The fact was that such a feature was redundant when I could post written and even video commentaries every so often under nicer titles or just post a bunch of times on different subjects per post. In another way, though, I felt that getting rid of the Bite opened up a path for the DTM-Cast to be born, which is sort of the modern equivalent of what that series used to be… except now it’s audible instead of written. Whether that’s an improvement is up to interpretation.
I kinda miss the Bite, though. I might want to bring it back… but then there’s a bunch of stuff, I’d like to “bring back” and it almost never happens.
Oh well… that was a thing.
