ECW Anarchy Rulz 1999

So I thought we’d have a change of pace and watch an ECW PPV instead. I’ve decided to go with Anarchy Rulz 1999 for a couple reasons. The first and perhaps most significant reason is that this was the first ECW PPV to air in Canada and as such, the first time I had been exposed to that particular product. Up until that point, ECW was a thing that I read about in wrestling magazines (or as some would prefer to call them, the “Apter Mags”) and only knew the basic bits through third hand accounts. So this was a good starting point to jump on.

The other reason I went with this and one that is more relevant to today’s mentality is that I was curious to see how well a ECW show had aged between my initial (and possibly only) viewing and today. While I could go back and pick any of the so-called “better” ECW shows from the promotion’s prime years, those wouldn’t provide much of a context since, outside of maybe one or two shows, that would be new territory. Going back to ECW, I opted for the first ECW show I’ve watched and I’m genuinely curious to see if I could enjoy this now as much as I did back then… at least, I assume I enjoyed it back then since I do recall watching the subsequent PPVs before ECW’s eventual closure in 2001.

So let’s cause some ruling anarchy or something… I don’t know.

The Mega Man X Legacy Of Middling Mediocrity Continues… Allegedly

Mega Man X had a somewhat troubling legacy to say the least. After three quality outings on the Super Nintendo, the series made the jump to Playstation and things started falling apart. Oh sure, the fourth entry was a fun enough romp with some minor quibbles, but Mega Man X5 added more quibbles to be had and Mega Man X6 had the distinction of not only being a terrible mess of a game, but it was a game that wasn’t supposed to be.

And then we got Mega Man X7 and its ill-fated jump to 3D that failed miserably. Mega Man X8 undid the damage and there was a nice deviation with the Command Mission game… but then years of silence with only one terrible iPhone port of the first game being the only spark of life in the series up until this point… well, some things just don’t change.

So the Mega Man X Legacy Collections were just released today. I didn’t play them yet, but I did pre-order them against my better judgment since I don’t like to pre-order things. And it turns out that my better judgment would’ve prevailed here because according to Steam reviews, the collections have some performance issues; locked framerates, limited customization options as far as keyboard binding and screen resolutions are concerned, and a couple other bits that makes these less than stellar affairs.

I won’t know about these issues until I play the games for myself. Just don’t expect a video on the subject unless I really feel compelled to do one. Also, make a mental note to myself; NO MORE PRE-ORDERS. Mega Man 11 is on my Steam wishlist and when it’s up and running, I’ll buy it then and there. No more of this pre-order bullshit.

Besides, my plate’s full at the moment. I still have a couple video reviews to polish up, I’m still working on the Pixel Player bit as well as a couple other side projects… AND the new version of Mega Man Maker will be up tomorrow if not soon, which means I have to get ready to back up my current musical catalogue.

RAW (July 23rd, 2018) – It’s Brock Vs. Roman… Again.

Full disclosure: I wrote this brief blurb Monday afternoon at around 2:30 p.m. prior to leaving for work with the intent of having a post to fill Tuesday morning. Because WWE is utterly predictable when it comes to their wanting to make Roman look really, really strong despite having him lose a bunch of matches, I have no problem proclaiming that Roman would win the rematch. Hell, I even predicted it in my Extreme Rules musings this past weekend.

In any event, here we go again, I suppose.

Because I guess the umpteenth time is the charm. I guess we can look forward to the Summerslam main event where thousands of New Yorkers will either boo Roman, come up with “inventive” chants, play with their balls, or maybe walk out to beat the traffic. And then the only mystery would be whether they finally pull the trigger on a Roman Reigns title reign or they keep it on Brock so that they can have him carry the belt at whatever UFC he ends up fighting in down the line… assuming he doesn’t fail any drug tests.

Either way, if this is the main event, I’m going to bed early.

JDF Has A Mobile Game…

I’m not going to embed the video here, but I will provide a link to the Rangerboard thread where I first learned of this development.

A mobile game based on his “morphin life” vlog series thing… and sure enough, it’s a game seemingly modelled after Batman Forever, the horrible video game that thought it was a good idea to use the Mortal Kombat-style of fighting game mechanics in a side-scrolling action platformer.

Yes, this looks incredibly stupid and I wouldn’t be surprised if this thing turns out to be a complete pile of shit, given the animation appears quite choppy and the live-action sprites are rather lifeless. On the bright side, I’d imagine the touch controls of the mobile format will be infinitely more functional than what Batman Forever and Mortal Kombat Mythologies once used.

So, yeah… this is a thing that happened. It’s free for those who want it.

As for whether I’ll touch the thing… I’ll wait for word of mouth.

Or I’ll just play Legacy Wars again.

WWE Extreme Rules 2018

So here’s the deal. I skipped out on this PPV recently and only caught a couple snippets that convinced me that this show wasn’t worth the effort. And then I wrote this piece on Monday that you can read on there if you want.

Anyway, while doing a clean-up around Wednesday or Thursday, I ended up loading up a replay of the show at the behest of a friend who suggested I give the show a watch; mostly the main event, which he claimed was the best thing he ever saw. And… well, I’m only half-glad I saw the show; in hindsight, I should’ve stuck with the main even, but regardless, let us begin this journey into the lack of extreme in this Extreme Rules PPV.
