Random Thoughts On… Funko Pops

Funko Pops sure have gotten big over the years. It seems like everywhere I go – whether they’d be an HMV or Gamestop/EB Games or Best Buy or wherever – there seems to be walls of these numerous and completely interchangeable figures waiting for people to blow their money on so they can collect the whole bunch of them for speculator purposes or something.

I don’t get these things.

For those unaware, a Funko Pop figure is those little miniature figures where they take a popular character and reconfigure him or her into this generic big-head, black-eyed, featureless figure. And it’s all the same generic body type and the same facial and all that. And… they all look some bland. They’re not like chibified versions of characters because those are actually cute and somewhat resemble who they’re supposed to.

These Funko things… they look all the same. No facial expressions. No emotions. Virtually no functionality whatsoever. They’re almost like Lego figures, in a way… but at least you could mess around with those and play with those for a bit. Funko things do jack shit.

Even the cheap-o knock rubber figures are more interesting.

Exactly what the fuck do people see in these things anyway? Is there such a market for regurgitated plastic crap they continue to make more of these stupid things? (That was a rhetorical question, by the way.)

I guess I’ll never be a convert to the Funko religion or whatever.

And I’m perfectly fine with that.

No BFG Ramble From Me… Been Busy

So spent yesterday at the Cosmodome in Laval, a exhibition of SPACE. Had some models of past rockets and satellites and it even had a virtual simulator where you could partake in an actual space mission (within the span of an hour). That was pretty cool, actually. There was also a section where folks could try out some of the training tools that you’d normally find at Space Camp. Didn’t get the chance to try them out, but that’s something to look forward to in the future. All in all, a fine way to spend a Sunday.

As such, I haven’t caught the Bound For Glory PPV that TNA put out… yes, TNA was able to put out a PPV last night… and I didn’t see it. From my understanding in reading the results, however, nothing of note really happened on that show that was worth watching, so I don’t think I’ll go out of my way to catch the replay… or even give TNA the time of day, anytime soon.

Anyway, I’m off.

Meh Berthdhey

So as of this day, I am a year older. Something that is normally to be celebrated among family and friends with much fanfare, I suppose. I, on the other hand, will be working and will come home with a piece of cake at most to remind myself of the occasion. That, to me, is more than adequate for an occasion that I generally no-sell these days.

There used to be a time when I’d be looking forward to my birthday. The gathering of folks, the delicacies to be devoured, and of course, the presents to be had. Hell, there used to be a time when I’d be looking forward to a lot of birthdays this month. We’d attend all the parties, exchange gifts, and enjoy each other’s company.

Nowadays… not so much.

The last time I went to a birthday party was last year and while it was the same sort of party that we’d usually get, the vibe was different. Maybe it’s due to a lot of new faces, maybe it’s due to everyone being older and different from times past, but I felt a little… out of touch, I guess. I wasn’t enjoying myself as much as I’d used to. Probably because tastes have changed. I can’t say for sure.

The last time I had a genuine birthday party of my own seems like ages ago. The closest thing we’d get to that would be an annual dinner at the Casa Grecque with the folks and big brother. And that’s fine by me. I don’t even look forward to the gifts anymore; it’s mostly money and a couple birthday cards with well wishes. Not met with disappointment or excitement; just… thanks and best wishes. Not exactly a rousing welcome to another year on this earth.

And so I treat this as a day like any other. I work during the day (a rare occurance considering I usually go evenings), I head home for dinner, I do some stuff, and I go to bed. I’m sure there’s a cake somewhere in the middle and that’s about as far as I’m willing to go as far as personal affairs.

Also, this is pretty much how I think in the morning. Maybe it changes later on… then again, perhaps not. We’ll see.

Well, I’m off. Will catch you later.

Bite Remembrance

Ten years ago… on this very day, it was June 6th, 2006.

Or 06-06-06 as the cool kids used to call it.

Considering one half of this domain name and my chosen online username that has been a thing since 1999, you’d think that I would have done something notable for the occasion. And I guess I did; I brought back my long defunct Bite commentary series for the first time since 2004. That first started life back in 2002 as a side thing for my fledging DTM Webstation (or Dave’s Webpage – it would alternate between the two in between site redesigns every six months) and was my main outlet for expressing a bunch of thoughts on a single page before DTM Blog became a thing.

Even when that was a thing, the Bite commentaries continued to be that main outlet. Mostly because I was still under the mindset of uploading webpages via HTML rather than using Tripod’s less than stellar blog posting tools. Funny thing is that while the Webstation was almost always under a state of redress, the Bite and Blog would be the only constants in the universe.

And then in 2009, I started up this Blogger page, which made doing blog posts in long form much more efficient and convinced me to give up the website as well as the other blog altogether. It also, eventually, brought about the end of the second Bite commentary run in 2012. The fact was that such a feature was redundant when I could post written and even video commentaries every so often under nicer titles or just post a bunch of times on different subjects per post. In another way, though, I felt that getting rid of the Bite opened up a path for the DTM-Cast to be born, which is sort of the modern equivalent of what that series used to be… except now it’s audible instead of written. Whether that’s an improvement is up to interpretation.

I kinda miss the Bite, though. I might want to bring it back… but then there’s a bunch of stuff, I’d like to “bring back” and it almost never happens.

Oh well… that was a thing.

Denouement

There comes a point in your life when the thing you enjoy no longer becomes enjoyable. When the thing you enjoy and had a profound affect on your life and your way of thinking becomes a thing of such indifference that you’re willing to step away for a good long while and never look back. It might not be the most pleasant feeling in the world, but in the end, you’ll get over it, move on with your life, and find something else to enjoy… or barring that, go back to the old things you used to enjoy and work from there.

There’s this thing that I used to enjoy. I enjoyed it very much. It became a thing that I enjoyed for years and looked forward to this thing whenever it took place. And then the thing started to become less of the thing I enjoyed and more something else. Eventually, it became a thing that was the complete opposite of the thing that I enjoyed and suddenly, I didn’t want anything to do with that thing anymore.
So I took a step away from that thing and moved on to something else.
Funny thing is even though I’m not doing that other thing that I left behind, there’s no real void. If anything, it feels like a great weight has been lifted from me. Suddenly, I’m feeling much better about life and the world in general. And I found some other things to enjoy… but I wonder how long these things that I enjoy turn out to be less so… and how long before they become something that I can’t enjoy?
This is a general thought process that occurs whenever I stop enjoying something that I’ve enjoyed for years. A circle, if you will. I’m not denoting anything specific nor am I saying anything in particular. I’m just expressing a thought here.
Something to think about…

Apparently My #LOLDivasRevolution Thing Is On Reddit…

Because sure… why not?

Hey, for that something that was intended to be part of an audio project and not as a written post (hence the lack of proper format), that’s rather surprising… and a bit disturbing. Go figure.

“Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children.”
