Review #900 – Metroid Dread (Switch)

Yes, they made another one. Actual surprise is actual.

Also, I think I’m done with the Dailymotion embeds. The HD stuff looks like crap and I’m getting more videos taken down or blocked than the more popular streaming service that’s usually the more picky one. Fuck that noise.

WWE Clash At The Castle 2022

It was a big weekend of wrestling. One night featured the AEW All Out PPV, while the other night featured WWE’s Clash At The Castle show from Wales. Prevailing circumstances prevented me from catching the AEW show, but I was able to watch the WWE PPV and so I’d figure that I would share my thoughts here.
We’re about a month or so removed from HHH’s stint as the new head of WWE Creative and there has been some changes here and there. A bunch of guys who were released have been brought back, there’s more of a focus on wrestling, and people are even allowed to say wrestling and hospital. It’s not exactly a huge turnaround and it’s still going to be a while before we can properly gauge this a success, but it’s steps in the right direction.
So I’m going to give this relatively minor show that’s being treated like a big deal a fair shake. And if turns out good, who knows? I might start watching these WWE PPVs again when they happen. Otherwise, I’ll be more than content waiting until the new year to give this another shot.

State Of The Blog – September 2022

Today’s update is going to be a lightweight one of sorts. Suffice it to say that there hasn’t been much in the way of updates other than the usual stock of reviews for a couple weeks before radio silence. For those who want a little more, I’ll discuss it on this weekend’s edition of the DTM-Cast, but some issues came up that required me to take some time off from this project.

The usual weekly PPV Musings continued, however. And I did attempt a live show test. With a few tweaks and fixes, I might consider doing another one. General consensus seems to be the mic being a bit weak. This continues to plague me for quite some time.

Reviews will resume tomorrow and the DTM-Cast returns this Labor Day Weekend on Monday. I may or may not be able to catch the AEW show this weekend, but I should be able to watch WWE’s Castle show, so there’s going to be something. Believe it or not, I’m actually looking forward to that show.

Not much else to say. Like I said, lightweight update. Hopefully, I’ll have more for the next one.

Later.

AEW Dynamite (Aug. 31st, 2022) – How To Care About A Challenger Who Got Demolished By Mox

So last week, Jon Moxley destroyed CM Punk to become the undisputed AEW World Champion. And when I say destroy, I mean brutalize the motherfucker in less than three minutes. Showing no mercy. All indications would suggest that a rematch would be in the cards, but the question remains; how do you get an audience to care about a rematch when the challenger had already been beaten quite decisively to boot?

Well, the answer is to have Jon Moxley leave out an open contract for a World title shot at All Out in Chicago that would be signed by the former champ Punk, who contemplated failure until his spirits were lifted by his best friend and coach, Ace Steel, which prompts Punk to rally the Chicago crowd behind him. Well, Chicago seems to want this match, but will anyone else?
It’s a bit of an interesting problem with this World title picture. On the one hand, it’s All Out, it’s Chicago, and all indications point to Punk winning the title back and resuming the run that would cut off by a foot injury. On the other hand, though, you have this absolute madman in Jon Moxley who had been on a tear through the summer that it could’ve been called the Summer of Mox and nobody would’ve complained about it. And honestly, given how strongly he’s been booked, I don’t think Moxley should lose that World title anytime soon; doing so would be a disservice to the hard work that the man has put in.
Like I said, it’s an interesting problem. And perhaps the least perplexing one to have at the moment.
Danielson defeated Hager in a hell of a match while the Elite overcome the Will Ospreay empire to advance to the finals. Hangman Adam Page decides to fill in for whoever Dark Order member got injured this week and it’s not hard to imagine what the finals of this Trios title tourney is going to look like. THe Elite winning is the obvious choice, but there is something to be said about throwing the Dark Order a bone for once. There was also a fun women’s match between SHIDA and Toni Storm going over Dr. Britt and Jamie Hater while FTR and Wardlow killed a bunch of jobbers.
All in all, a perfectly entertaining edition of Dynamite. Not sure if I’m going to be catching the PPV this weekend, but if not, there’s other stuff to look forward to, I suppose. There’s a WWE PPV that actually looks good (for once) and even the big Worlds Collide end of NXT UK Saturday afternoon. Stuff to consider.
P.S. Apparently Bobby Fish’s contract has expired and AEW is not re-signing him. So much for that Elite vs. ReDragon trios feud, bay bay.

NXT In Your House (June 2022)

You assholes thought that I was going to skip this one, did ya? You didn’t think that I wouldn’t follow through on keeping up with these NXT In Your Houses despite this not being the same NXT as the previous two?
Yeah, well, I’m probably stopping after this one.
For those needing further context, I have not seen a single episode of NXT 2.0 – the retooled version that went from being HHH’s attempt to be the King Of The Indies to a true developmental brand featuring a bunch of random athletic rookies with dumb names and gimmicks. The most I would consume is the occasional clip here and there, which is the most I could take before emptying my bowels. I’ve heard nothing but negative things about this show and my brief samplings of the show have not painted a pretty picture… which is appropriate considering “pretty picture” is the furthest thing from my mind when it comes to the overall visual presentation of this NXT 2.0 program.
Regardless, I’m willing to give this a fair shake. More often than not, the NXT specials formerly known as Takeovers are usually highly regarded fare and at the very least, I’ll expect more in-ring action than insipid skits. Despite this, I’ve got my hard liquor on standby in the event that I may need it.
