(December 2012 Update: Finally got around to fixing the Joust (NES) review, which was missing a bunch of audio at the begining. This has been rectified.)
Review #109 – Super Collapse! II (Game Boy Advance)
To Boldly… Not Be Bold
Someone appraised me of the second trailer for “To Boldly Flee” and told me to avoid it. Unfortunately, I didn’t take his advice and checked it out anyway. Now, I kinda wish I hadn’t… because I now have this sinking feeling that this thing is going to outsuck Kickassia. The trailer looks appallingly bad, with crummy special effects, a lackluster plot, and more attempts at cosplaying fail. It almost seems like Channel Awesome wants to produce films akin to the Seltzerberg features… except much more crappier.
There’s putting together a fun little flick that plays to the strengths of the entertainers in order to produce something decent and enjoyable without exposing the weaknesses. There’s putting together a quick little project that comes off as poor quality but contains enough charm and shows enough care put into the work that it can be enjoyed the same way one can enjoy a good “bad” movie. And then there’s making an overproduced, pretentious circle-jerking project whose ambitions far exceed their ability to deliver and is done only to appease the mindless droves of fanatics who care not for a decent product from the producers because “it’s not supposed to be taken seriously” and thus will gobble crap like that up like a heroin addict sniffing the good stuff. And yet when somebody criticizes this supposed holy work, they go into a fit of rage degrading that person for not liking something that was supposed to be silly and not to be taken seriously… hence, they take it seriously.
Thanks, but no thanks. I’ll wait for the potential disaster from Cinemassacre instead. At the very least, James Rolfe will show some level of competence in his upcoming feature.
Bullshit Full Of Shit Since Day 1
A friend of mine suggested commentary on a number of topics. Among them were recent editions of James Rolfe’s utterly worthless Bullshit series, which includes complaining about microwaves, GPS units, and assholes. Isn’t suffering through the first thirteen episodes of this tripe enough? Why go through more of this crap and Rolfe’s insistence that he shows off his fancy bullshit mask? Not to mention it’s a pretty crummy mask on top of that.
Out of all the recent offerings, however, there’s one episode that I do agree with to a point… and that’s iTunes. If there was any reason for me to avoid iTunes, some would be listed in that one video. But as for the rest of the Bullshit series… well…

Bridge On The Captain?
You know, I’m reading the Agony Booth’s recap on Star Trek: Insurrection. And one of the first things the writer does is bring up how many commanders are on the Enterprise… which is true. Outside of Picard, every other senior crew member is either a Commander or Lieutenant Commander. (Funny bit: The writer assumes that Data’s cat might be a commander by proxy.)
Apparently, nobody clued the writer to Star Trek V and Star Trek VI, two films that took place on the U.S.S. Enterprise 1701-A… a starship with THREE CAPTAINS. Even though commander of the ship was Captain Kirk (because, you known, Captain Fucking Kirk), Spock and Scotty also held the rank of captain during these two films. (Spock having been captain since Star Trek II and Scotty getting promoted in the following film).

From back in 2009… I’m still waiting for that three-hour cut where people are sitting around a table talking.

So… new AVGN video is up on the Tubes
Looks over a bunch of NES games based on movies starring Ahr-Nuld… all honesty, it was a pretty meh episode. I guess some people will be happy he touched on games like Total Recall and Predator, but honestly, it was pretty lame. Especially since I’ve seen videos of this ilk on these games done better by other people and with less overcooked results. Oh well…
So… RAW 1000
Didn’t see it…
Not for a lack of wanting, mind you, but winds and shit weather has been detrimental to the satellite feed and thus no show. I can catch the replay tomorrow, mind you… but we’ll see.
Presumably, there were lots of old guys, longer overrun… because three hours ain’t enough or something, and the possible threat of Johnny C overcoming the odds and resuming the run of mediocrity… yeah, I’m probably going to record it. Watch it later or something…
I guess…
