About Will Smith’s Genie… Meh

Mena Massoud as the street rat with a heart of gold, Aladdin, and Will Smith as the larger-than-life Genie in Disney’s ALADDIN, directed by Guy Ritchie.

Apparently, this isn’t the final form of Will Smith’s take on the Genie made popular by the late Robin Williams in the ’92 animated film; that version is being worked on in post-production. Honestly, I don’t think we need to paint Will Smith blue. It’s fine if you want to remake your old animated works that don’t need a live-action remake; just try to make it its own little thing instead of being a word-for-word Xerox.

Hell, they’ve already taken that first step by giving Aladdin a shirt. Points for that, right?

Right?

About The Christmas Special

So in an update to the update, I will provide you on the current status of the Christmas Special. Right now, the aim is to get it ready and uploaded for Christmas Day so that people can watch it and enjoy at their leisure. I don’t expect this to be a long sucker; about an hour at most. However, there will be some interesting bits here and there.

At the moment, you can expect:

– Pick Ups for December 2018. This will provide you with “clues” as to forthcoming video projects.

– A short first impressions video on my first time playing Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 for Playstation 3. This is something of an experiment I’m trying out and possibly a springboard for a future video series.

– TWO new video reviews to debut on this here special (they will be uploaded individually the next day, along with some “other” stuff)

– An exclusive DTM Rambles video… which will eventually be uploaded individually

– And who knows? I might even throw some doggy videos because people like those, right?

Anyway, that’s the update on the Christmas video. Reviews forthcoming.

ECW Massacre On 34th Street (December 2000 PPV)

So it’s December… and it’s the holiday season… who’s up for an ECW PPV musing?

From December 2000, it’s ECW’s penultimate PPV extravaganza, Massacre On 34th Street. I have not seen this show back in the day; not sure why, but in any event, let’s give this one a shot and see if this would’ve been a better last hurrah than the actual last hurrah that came along the following year.

About Last Night’s RAW…

So Vinny Mac showed up because ratings were tanking and so we’re going to shake things up with a brand new era of RAW that doesn’t suck. And apparently, we’re going to shake things up by getting rid of Baron Corbin as GM and having the McMahons run RAW hands-on.

So, basically, it’s the same old shit.

I heard Smackdown is pretty good, though.

Random Thoughts On… Short Treks (Part 1)

I’ve seen about the first two of these short Trek things that have been airing these past couple months. I’ve yet to see the recent Saru-focused on and apparently there’s another one coming before Discovery returns for its second season and “ruin canon” or whatever the detractors like to say.

I didn’t like the one with Tilly. It had a good start at the beginning with the invisible alien and all that, but once the alien spoke English and came off as a bit emo, that’s when the short lost me. I don’t know if I want to blame it on the actress or the writers who wrote her character that way, but it’s the cliched case of “I wanted to like this, but I couldn’t due to this and that.” The idea was good, the overall story was familiar fare but still interesting, but the execution was a turn off.

The other one, with the lone pilot and the ship computer taking place a thousand years in the future… that was interesting. I like the idea of setting this way into the future because you don’t have to worry about canon or anything, though I question how Discovery would’ve survived for a millennium and still be in pristine condition. I also liked the concept of one man alone with only the ship’s computer as company and said computer trying to make a relationship with a married fellow. It’s an interesting premise and it made for an entertaining fifteen minutes of television. I liked this one better than the other one.

So if I get to watch the other ones, I’ll probably post some thoughts on it. But for now… meh.

Nintendo Won’t Stock Classic Systems Beyond 2018

Source: https://www.engadget.com/2018/12/14/nintendo-will-not-make-more-nes-snes-classic-consoles/

In fairness to Nintendo, 2018 was a good year if you wanted to hunt for the NES or SNES Classic Edition systems since they were much easier to find in stores. A recent trip to a couple Walmarts around town still had a couple in stock, so they weren’t impossible to find. Regardless, Nintendo not planning on making more beyond the current stock shouldn’t have been a surprise since they’ve said as much for a while now, but people are still going to complain about it because… well, it’s social media.

There used to be a time when I saw someone bitch about the NES Classic being released at all because it meant Nintendo had no plans for the holidays back in the day and the Switch was still months away. Now that Switch is here and has its Online component with classic titles – even if they are the same paltry NES titles that have been re-released more times than Atari 2600 compilations and plug-and-play systems have seen the light of day – there’s no need to be for these systems to be around… at least in Nintendo’s mind.

Personally, I would’ve liked to have seen these last a little while longer. Not everyone is going to want a Switch or 3DS and these would’ve been a nice little side source of income for the company. And while I’m not clamoring for a N64 Classic like most people are, maybe a side line of classic console PnPs wouldn’t have been such a bad idea.

In any event, if you want an NES Classic or SNES Classic, best get them while they’re in stock because once they’re gone, they’re gone for good.

But look on the bright side. At least the Playstation Classic is a thing now. That has to be cool, right?

Right?

Something I've Considered…

I’ve got over nine hundred DVD-Rs worth of recorded gameplay footage that has been building since 2007. It’s only been since 2010 that I opted to use it as a source for online videos. The collection has accounted for over a decade’s worth of old-school vintage video game recordings. Memories and things of that nature. I have Word Documents that keep track of the material and which discs contain what.

The question I have now is… should I keep this stuff?

Of the 930+ discs (and counting), I’d have to say only a small portion sees much use. And as I continue to record footage and store more discs, space is slowly becoming something of a premium. Never mind the fact that the DVD recorder isn’t going to last forever and sooner or later, I’m going to have to find another means of recording.

I postulate this because I’ve thinking about squeezing some online mileage out of that stuff. While most of it isn’t something that’s useful to anyone – and also, I haven’t seen much of this stuff – I’d imagine there’s a couple playthroughs in there that might be worth turning into online viewing experiences. All they’d need is some commentary and voila – new material for the channels.

2019 is going to be a big step forward for the blog and I want to have as much material for the site as humanly possible. Maybe that’s an idea worth considering.
