Old Video Commentaries Down Momentarily

Honestly, don’t know how many people care at this point, but for those who do…

Due to changes in Youtube security algorithms that changes the properties of Unlisted videos, any Unlisted videos uploaded prior to 2015 will automatically be set to Private and can no longer be reverted to “Unlisted” status, which keeps the videos “visible” to those with the links, but off the Youtube search. A number of videos, including the old Video Commentaries and some of the Sonichu stuff from yesteryear, are affected by this change.
So, I just went ahead and deleted the lot of them from Youtube. Not willing to deal with the headache that is Youtube mechanics. If there is an equivalent upload of the Dailymotion side, I’ll just swap it with that. Otherwise, I’ll find a way to upload the other stuff somehow. Sadly, it’s not much of a priority at the moment.

UWF Blackjack Brawl (September 1994)

Last week, we looked at Herb Abrams’ UWF’s Beach Brawl PPV event, which was… something. This week, we’re looking at their 1994 event, Blackjack Brawl.

Technically speaking, Blackjack Brawl is not a PPV. It’s more of a television special that they put on free television… because god forbid the world be subjected to another Herb Abrams-promoted PPV event that people had to pay for. But, yes, kids. We are doing the OTHER UWF supershow thing that was also on Youtube and I made a recording of for future reference… although much like the previous show, the show is still on Youtube for the world to suffer through.

Well…

Dynamite (June 18th, 2021): Yeah, About That Cage Fight

I had this on the DVR still and I figured I’d give it a watch. Not much to say in general because it was a lame duck show during a lame duck period of being stuck in a Friday Night death slot where nobody was watching while the NBA playoffs was a thing.

They started the show with the MMA Cage match between Jake Hager and Wardlow… and it was almost as good as any MMA match that I’ve seen in that I was almost passing out of boredom. Then Wardlow flipped Hager and I was back into it for a bit before Hager tapped him. Then MJF caused some trouble, hurting Jericho’s arm and even punching out Dean Malenko, who has had neck issues. All the old guys with bad necks are taking better bumps than half the roster in NXT. Go figure.

Other than that, it was one of those nothing Friday shows that also featured a Miro title defense. I like Miro’s new gimmick of being God’s favorite wrestler and thanking God for his hot wife, parodying all those fighters thanking God for their gifts in beating people up. That’s fun.

UWF Beach Brawl (June 1991)

You want to talk about old, obscure shit… witness Beach Brawl from 1991, courtesy of the Universal Wrestling Federation… from Herb Abrams.

Oh yes… we are going into the deep end here. The outlaw promotion founded by Herb Abrams and assuming the name once used by Bill Watts’ Mid-South promotion, promising to bring wrestling back to the way it used to be… which probably meant a lot of half empty houses, lots of bad wrestling, poor production, and a rather healthy drug-fueled lifestyle. And so much like Bill Watts’ UWF, Herb Abrams’ UWF also eventually went bye-bye… which probably would’ve happened anyway considering Abrams’ passing in 1996.

But yes, the UWF had a PPV event that somebody would eventually – decades later – upload to Youtube and somewhere along the way, I had managed to record the event on DVD-R through my old set-up… long story. And then I did this write-up… promptly forgot about it… and just got back to it now… so I figured…”Why not give this show another shot?”

Then I found out why I never gave it another shot.
