Okay, that sucked.

Last year, NXT did an empty arena In Your House-style throwback show… and apparently, people liked it so much that they did another one last year. Anyway, I recently dug up the old WWF In Your House musings I wrote a couple years back during the pandemic days and posted them on the blog. As it turned out, said NXT In Your House was also included as part of the package and since I did watch that one, it’s only fair that I give this show a fair shake, especially if they end up doing another one this year.
So consider this a bit of a bonus musings of sorts.
Fyter Fest was a gaming festival once upon a time that also held an AEW show. This is the video used to tease said event.
Since then, it’s become an event edition of Dyanmite for two nights. Though I’d imagine once things start returning to sustained normalcy, it can go back to being a gaming convention paired up with a wrestling show. I guess… I don’t know. Is anyone really clamoring for a rematch between Nakazawa and the CFO guy or whatever it’s called?
Anuway, this was a really fun show with some good stuff. A good segment with Hangman Page and the Dark Order challenging the Elite to a big elimination match down the road, a pretty fun match between Christian Cage and Matt Hardy that saw Cage pull out the win, and the long awaited return of the magical girl herself, Yuka Sakazaki.

So I saw the Money In The Bank PPV… the first WWE PPV in a good long while to have a full capacity crowd… and while the crowd made the show more exciting and tolerable to a certain extent, it didn’t change the fact that at the end of the day, this was a WWE show, where you can expect some great wrestling matches to go along with some questionable booking and even more questionable production choices.
As a precautionary measure, I sampled the Smackdown show and wasn’t all that impressed. Started with a strong tag match, but then slowly became another WWE show. Fortunately, Money In The Bank proved a much better show, though nowhere near the level of some of the recent AEW efforts or even some of the true exceptional WWF shows of the past, but indeed a step above the Thunderdome stuff and certainly better than those empty Performance Center shows which are just SAD to watch.
A large part of it is production; the computer graphics that they apply look cheap and horrid, the camerawork is still somewhat poor, as is the constant cutting. And the brand new set – the one that Stephanie McMahon claimed would freshen up the show – is just a giant video screen. Nothing special or elaborate about it – it’s just a bigger screen and feels like every other lazily put together WWE setpiece of the past two decades.
And of course… the booking.
So here’s the deal… I wasn’t going to comment on this show because I don’t watch RAW. However, I had to bring up a couple quick points regarding this show, which I have seen some of. I’m going to largely bounce ideas around, so don’t expect anything elaborate.

Figured we haven’t done one of these in a while, so some quick blog notes.
– Next week will feature no videos of any kind, but after that, should resume. I’m attempting to stick with a “two review a week” schedule going forward, with maybe a couple exceptions along the way. Review A Bad Game Day (August 8th) lands on a Sunday this year and will be a bonus review of sorts… just as well since it falls in line with the two regular reviews being done that week. We’ll see how that goes.
– The DTM-Cast will go in an August hiatus after the next couple (weekly) episodes and will return on Labour Day weekend.
– Musings for the past several episodes of AEW Dynamite, including the final Daily’s Place shows and the first couple shows, will be published next week and be dated appropriately. I know this goes against the “norm”, but the stuff was written ages ago and only needed a little polish that took a little while longer due to other commitments unrelated to this stuff.
– No update on the video commentary front thus far… but if something comes up, I’ll let you know.
That’s about it for now. Enjoy the weekend, everyone.
