Neither One Nor The Other…

What did I write about Cena and Batista in Post 200? Let me see…

Both have held their titles since Wrestlemania 21, which is an already incredible feat. And in my opinion, they’ve done pretty well thus far. Despite what the general audience and “insider fans” think of either one of these individuals, I sincerely hope that they make to Wrestlemania 22 with their title reigns intact.

So much for high hopes… New champs on both fronts. John Cena lost the belt to Edge on the last PPV while Batista was forced to vacate the title due to injury… and the belt was won by Kurt Angle.

No More Archie On Fanfiction.Net

I tell you. Everytime I visit Fanfiction.Net in an attempt to read some awesome/awful stories or post some of my own, it absolutely amazes me as to what kind of strange stupidities I find there.

Now I’ve posting stories at FF.Net for roughly a couple years now, despite an earlier Bite posting saying I never would in spite of the fact that I had an account there for a year prior and having done nothing with it. (Still with me? Good.) I’ve seen my share of awkward moments and have been involved in some puzzling situations. I’ve even had a story removed for some stupid reasons. So there wasn’t anything that surprised me until I’ve read FF.Net’s policy this morning as I was about the first chapter of a new Castlevania story I started over the weekend. Nothing that I haven’t read before.

Then I saw the list of restricted works. For the uninitiated, there are a few authors who had expressly forbidden the postings of fanfics based on their works. Some of these names aren’t really familiar to me and the ones that are have written stories that I don’t particular care for. And in the case of one specific author who I shall not name, it’s personally not worth the effort to try and write a story based on lackluster novels that somehow made money and became best-sellers. But just as the list came to an end, I saw one puzzling entry into the list.

Archie Comics.

For some reason, Archie Comics expresses forbids the archiving of Archie fanfics. Actually, there is a small valid reason; Archie Comics and the properties they produce are family-based entertainment. If you go to their website and click on the Note to Parents section, you’ll find a detailed article about Archie Comics are clean fun and that’s the way they like. This probably stems to their wish to keep unclean Archie fanfics off a large public forum like FF.Net. Still, it seems overly protective. I mean, some of this stuff can’t be that bad, right?

And then I read Agony In Pink, a Power Rangers fanfic that, all gruesome depictions aside, isn’t terribly well-written.

Apparently, so did Archie.

(2019 Update: Reading this today is funny in hindsight, when you consider that the current crop of Archie comics are less family friendly and there’s also a Riverdale show that is anything but family friendly.)

Another Wrestling Death In The Making?

A quote from Wade Keller, a writer of PWTorch.com:

“There is a top wrestler in WWE today who is considered to be on the unofficial death watch, whose death, due to his credentials, would make the considerable news coverage of Eddie Guerrero’s death this week look minor by comparison. It’s no secret to most within WWE; if it’s not known by Vince McMahon, someone needs to tell him the system needs to be changed. It’s one thing to show how much you care about a colleague by crying on the air after he dies. It’s another to care enough about someone to do what it takes while he’s alive to keep him from dying – even at the expense of box office receipts, storyline interruptions, and being deemed pushy, nosy, or a nark.”

Now I’m not going to speculate who it is, nor will I speculate if there’s any truth to it. I don’t know the whole story nor do I claim to, but if a top wrestler is on the death watch, it’s time to do what it takes to keep him alive. The last thing we need is another wrestler death, especially that of a major star. While Eddie Guerrero wasn’t a huge star, he was and is still well respected and well admired by fans and wrestlers alike… imagine the shockwave a bigger name passing away will cause, mostly because of the ineptitude of a company who knew about his condition and did nothing to remedy it.

One is enough. And we’ve had more than that already.

We don’t need another wrestling-related death this year.

It’s Snowing

When I was praying, I had asked God for many things. Among these things, I had asked God to wait until Christmas time to starting pouring in the snow.

It’s snowing today. Not much, but it’s snowing.

Apparently, Eddie Guerrero is God’s Favorite Wrestler too.

Speaking of which, I saw the tribute show. That was a hard show for me to watch emotionally, but it turned out to be a well-produced show. Wrestlers would speak a few words and also there would be memorable Eddie moments, such as when he won the title and when he spewed Big Show with crap.

SPD Over? Hooray!

The long nightmare is finally over. Power Rangers Space Patrol Delta. Or SPD if you will. Its final episode recently came to pass.

Admittedly, I have seen roughly 10 percent of the entire series. The premiere episodes did NOTHING for me and the subsequent episode was actually an early sign that this wouldn’t be worth my time. In addition to that, I watched the episode that aired early in Canada (Wormhole) and thought that was horrible. And then there was the finale, which had to salvage the series in some form or another.

I don’t know. Call me harsh, but the finale was almost as bad as the rest of what I’ve seen. It proved that I didn’t really miss out on anything. Some time ago, I had complained about Ninja Storm, but at least it had a few good episodes to its credit… not to mention I’ve regretted missing the finale. But SPD does nothing for me and from what I’ve been hearing, there isn’t really much reason for me to commit to the show.

One can only hope Mystic Force turns out better than this piece of shit.

Say Goodbye to Used Games

I’ve picked up this article and question its validity concerning the subject matter. For the sake of clarity, I’ll post it here:

SCE has secured the patent for a new disc technology that, if used, would not allow the PS3 to read used games for that platform. The technology was invented by Kutaragi himself, as well as two others.

Details regarding the patent are featured here: http://www.ipdl.ncipi.go.jp/homepg.ipdl

It is indicated specifically that the technology is to prevent the use of used as well as pirated software.

The technology involves actually rendering a authentication code originally encrypted on the game disk unreadable to other machines once the disk it is used.

This would mean that Net-based and other such games will not be the only ones to be affected by the technology.

Naturally third software developers would embrace this technology, and it would ensure sales of the inevitable “Best series” for the PS3, but used games shops would be put out of business if the PS3 were to become the primary platform in the next generation.

While information regarding the patent does not specify outright that the technology will be used in the PS3, Kutaragi has gone on record saying that copy management is absolutely necessary in order to endure that no “Napsters” of the game industry create problems in the future.

Yeah right. This kind of copy management is absolutely necessary so that the “Napsters” can’t cause problems that this little doohickey (if implemented) will cause. Used game shops will practically be put out of business because of this technology. Video game sections of rental chains such as Blockbuster won’t see as much business as before (or at least fall reign to other gaming consoles that lack this wretched technology). Friends can’t even trade games to play for the weekend. And what if your machine breaks and you have to get a new one? Does this mean you’ll have to rebuy all your games too just so they work? This is complete bullshit.

I’m not going to turn this into a pro-pirating or anti-pirating lecture. My line of thought is pretty blurred on the subject, but clearly if there had to be a means of fighting pirates, this isn’t one of them. If anything, you’re more likely to drive more people into piracy or purchasing bootleg materials that might be of an inferior make, but at least won’t have any restrictions. Hopefully, Sony will be smart and not implement such technology into their PS3. Whether you like or not, piracy is a rampant thing that is NEVER going to go away regardless of how much you try to stop. They’re everywhere!

There’s my rant of the day.

Yep.

Looking back at the few entries of the Blog, I’ve noticed that the majority of stuff I wrote either relates to wrestling or maintenence of various websites and whatnot. Ramblings, Fiction Friday, and other categories have not seen their fair share of updates and it’s kind of sad that this blog is slowly turning into a wrestling forum, which is something that I don’t want it to be.

I wish it didn’t have to be this way, but the truth is that there isn’t much stuff that I want to post up concerning personal stuff. Other than the occasional show and whatnot, I generally don’t watch as much television as I should. I read a couple of books on occasion, but never really want to make it such a big deal by posting it here. I generally want to keep from turning this into a political forum concerning world events, which is sort of why such major events are not mentioned here, save for an off-comment here and there. In some way, this is sort of why I haven’t been posting here frequently, but it is something I hope to change.

Things are actually looking up and I’m starting to feel a whole lot better. Most of all, I don’t feel as depressed as before (although make no mistake; I’m still there) and that’s the reason for the change in style. Hopefully, this’ll be a sign of good times to come in my life and I’m hoping to reflect that sort of thing here. Having said that, I strongly urge you to visit the Twisted Realms page this coming Monday, where I’ll post up some stuff… I’m not saying.

Never believe. Dave

Friday Night Thursday Smackdown Thursday (and also RAW)

No, this ain’t no lie. This is not a figment of my imagination. Straight from canada.wwe.com comes a reasonable facsimile of this image (before I destroyed it) confirming that Canada will be getting its share of Smackdown ONE DAY EARLIER than our neighbors down south. I suppose we should consider ourselves lucky. Anyway, some quick thoughts… So RAW has come and passed. And since it was Labor Day yesterday, I got the day off and was able to sit down and watch the show. And what did WWE give me for this rare event? That’s right, boys and girls: a crappy show. Not in the sense that it was bad, but… the show has actually caused me to fall asleep! Never before had a wrestling show had caused me to fall asleep… save for a couple shows which made want to relieve myself in the commode. But seriously… to think this show was pretty decent a year ago, even with Crapper H on top. Not even the knowledge that we’re getting Smackdown a day earlier than UPN will make up for a pathetic RAW show. Which, I guess, brings us to the whole point of this post. Friday Smackdown Thursday – Debut Episode Predictions

Okay. I wouldn’t normally do something like this, but since the debut episode of Friday Night Smackdown already has a full card booked, I’d thought I throw in my predictions for the match. Just so you’d know, I posted this around 12:00 pm Tuesday morning, long before any spoilers get out. And even though I might check out spoilers when they get out Wednesday (or even on Thursday when the Score, a Canadian sports channel, shows Smackdown one day earlier), I’ll delay the actual posting of results until Sunday. So yeah, Friday Night Smackdown (or Thursday Smackdown Thursday in Canada – no, that’s not the real name, moron!) has a full card booked and a decisively difficult challenge ahead: presenting PPV-caliber matches within a one-hour block. Will it be a successful outing? Who knows? Of course, since we don’t the details of how the booking will be now that the show’s been cut in half, I’ll just list out the card as announced. If any matches get cut, we’ll find out. In any case, here are my predictions. Chris Benoit vs. Orlando Jordan in a SUMMERSLAM REMATCH for the United States TitleMy pick is obvious: Chris Benoit. He’s been on such a roll lately: first he beats OJ for the title in half a minute, then defeats the coffee cup, then defeats the commode, and beats OJ again! All under a span of two minutes. So let’s up the ante a bit. Not only will Benoit beat OJ, but he will also beat him in LESS than 23.4 seconds! I guarantee it… since they somehow have to fit the match in a one-hour slot. Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio in a Steel Cage SUMMERSLAM REMATCHWho’s your PAPI?! Nuff said… win, Unca Eddy, win! LOD2k5 (Animal and Heidenreich) vs. MNM (Mercury and Nitro) in a SUMMERSLAM GREAT AMERICAN BASH REMATCH for the (Teddy Long’s Smackdown) Tag Team Championship Heidenreich was reported to have left for Louisianna to find his family who have gone missing in the Katrina disaster. If this match happens, we might expect new tag team champions. Batista vs. John Bradshaw Layfield in a Bullrope SUMMERSLAM REMATCH for the (Teddy Long’s Smackdown) World Heavyweight Championship I’ve said it before… DAVE WINS. That’s it, now leave me alone! Later.
