Review #809 – Mario’s Picross (Game Boy)

Sometimes, you come across a game that you didn’t really appreciate or understand as a younger fellow, but when you get to play it as a much older fellow, you get a little more out of. I’m not sure if Mario’s Picross is one of those games, but I can say that this is one of those games that I could play now because I’m somehow more patient with things.

Yeah, that last part doesn’t quite compute… you know what? Forget I said all that and just watch the video.

WWE Evolution (Oct. 2018 PPV)

I could have added a more flattering picture of Cold Ronda, but that’d be an impossible task.

Welp… so, here we are. From October 2018, the WWE’s first and (thus far) only all-women PPV featuring women’s matches and such.

So here’s the deal; 2018 was the year WWE started doing shows in Saudi Arabia, beginning with the Oil Rumble early on. People were upset because, among other things we won’t get into here, women weren’t allowed to compete in the country. So in what was clearly a carefully-planned public relations move to try and curtail any negative press from those Saudi shows, WWE concocted this all-women Evolution show to try and get people talking. Apparently, it was a success – or so people say – but beyond this one show, there was never another Evolution show… probably because the Saudis eventually allowed WWE to have one women’s match on their WWE Blood Money shows.

Or maybe it’s because of someone else… I don’t know. I might be giving it away.

Anyway, I don’t know why they didn’t do another show. I could venture guess and assume they’re waiting for Cold Ronda to come back from hibernation before they hold another one because she’s the real draw… next to Charlotte, of course. Honestly, there are a lot of ideas that they’ve tried with the Network that seemed good on paper and even partly in execution, but were promptly forgotten about and discarded as such. But I can’t help but feel a bit cynical about this show and the circumstances that led to its one outing. As much as as the women praised the event and wanted another one, the belief that this was a purely PR-driven move and not something that was thought up with any genuine interest had kept me from giving this the time of day.

Years have passed and, for better or worse, I decided to give this a shot and see if it was really as good as people made it out to be. Partly because of the bad taste left by that match from that TNA show last week, partly because of the NWA women’s show coming, and also partly because of the possible rumor that Queen Of The Ring will happen and have some presence at the next Blood Money event in Saudi Arabia. So, hey, why not?

And no, I will NEVER watch any of the Blood Money PPVs. Only reason I saw the first one because I was bed-ridden and didn’t have the clicker. All the rest can go fly a kite for all I care.

New Video Commentary Page In The Works

I threw together a WIP page for the video commentaries. As video commentaries are (eventually) re-uploaded, I’ll throw a link to the relevant pages. That way, you can keep track of what’s ready to go. Speaking of which, the first three commentaries are up on the Archive channel. They’re unlisted, but can be accessed on the blog or through the appropriate Video Commentary playlists.

(2025 Update: Never mind. The link is long dead and we’re back to square one. Oh well…)

AEW Dynamite (July 28th, 2021): Garbage For The Sake Of Garbage

That Shaq banner perfectly sums up my reaction to this episode, which may very well be the worst episode of Dynamite that I’ve seen. One of the rare misfires from AEW as of late, but I think we can safely say that we have established a definite bottom to this Cracker Barrel.

An Update On The Video Commentaries

A couple quick notes:

So earlier this month – or was it the end of last month? – I made a post in regards to a Youtube technicality that prompted me to deleted all the old video commentaries from the DTM Rambles channel. The deal was that a change in the algorithm would affect most unlisted videos and that I either had to let them be public, fill out a form to keep them unlisted, or simply re-up them again. Naturally, I have gone with the third option since the commentaries are old and I’d rather not have them be commented on by really dumb people who believe that stuff is relevant today.

So here’s the deal. I’m going to attempt to upload a couple old commentaries onto the DTM Archives channel, the secondary Youtube channel I’ve got laying around that spent its days as an archive of Mega Man Maker videos. The original intent of the channel was for all the odds and ends that didn’t fit the main channel and since video commentaries are no longer the in-thing around these parts – or at least not as much as they used to be – I suppose the whole bunch of them would now be considered oddball.

Anyway, I’m going to try on there first and if things go smoothly, it shouldn’t be a problem to get those videos up and about. But if it turns out to be problematic, then it’ll be off to the Dailymotion mines.

As for what version of the commentaries will be up… it depends.

For the most part, a good majority of these commentaries are being re-rendered from the original Vegas source material, with only the intro and outro bits being swapped and maybe a couple text additions for title cards and such. However, some of these will be straight re-ups of the old files since the original Vegas sources were wiped during a hard drive crash ages ago.

We’ll give this a shot and I’ll let you know where things stand when I have news to offer.

TNA One Night Only – Knockouts Knockdown IV (2016)

Did you folks know that to this day, I have yet to see that Evolution show that WWE put out a couple years ago? The all-female show that was headlined by Cold Ronda defending against one of the Bella twins was apparently a big success, but not enough to warrant another show… probably because they are waiting for Cold Ronda to come back so she can main event it. I never got around to seeing it and it was just a complete afterthought. People tell me it was a good show and I try to make a point to watch it, but never do… probably because I come across something on the network that intrigues me a hell of a lot more.

However, I did see TNA’s fourth Knockouts Knockdown One night only PPV from 2016… a concept that makes no sense since a lot of these so-called One Night Only shows are annual traditions. The Knockouts Knockdown is the series of women-only PPV and today’s show – the fourth in the series – isn’t as good as Evolution is supposed to be. How do I know this? Because this is the show with Shelly and Rebel.

Yes, that match.

I guess I’ll make a point to watch Evolution for next week, then.

For Anyone Interested, WWE Blood Money With A Vengeance Comes To Saudi Arabia October 21st

Source: https://www.f4wonline.com/wwe-news/wwe-returning-saudi-arabia-october-21-348201

Welp… you’d figure that it would only be a matter of time before WWE returned to the progressively progressive kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where they will present yet another GREATEST [insert word here] EVER! Whatever it takes to get some of that sweet Saudi blood money. Hopefully, nobody gets assassinated before the show takes place. Wouldn’t that be embarrassing?!
In other news, I think after last night’s RAW, Nikki ASH needs to change her name to Nikki SAG… because she’s Still A Geek. So, congratulations, Kana-chan. You’re off the hook!
