The End of Amazing And Why I’m Cool With It

So… Amazing Spider-Man is no more… here comes the Superior Spider-Man…

I guess I shouldn’t worry about spoiling the final issue since it’s been out for a while, people know about it, and are most likely complaining about it… so if you haven’t read the book… you had your chance.

Amazing Spider-Man Trailer Is Kinda… Meh.

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=86680

So they just put out the Amazing Spider-Man trailer, the reboot of a ten-year old series that was needed because we couldn’t let Sam Raimi do the Spider-Man movies he wanted and thus we go with this somewhat uninspired take.

Looks nice, but I’m not digging this “untold story” angle that they’re going for here. Not only is the Spider-Man origin story the furthest thing from “untold story” you’re going to get, but it seems like they’re retooling it to be some sort of destiny thing as opposed to being by chance. Not to mention that I’m not a fan of the suit… but hey, they brought back the Spidey wit; something that was missing from the Sam Raimi entries.

Cautiously middle of the road on this one; looking forward to it, but not particularly impressed thus far.

DTM BLOG Classics #51 – Revisiting The “Secret Spider-Man” Movie

Today’s DTM Blog Classic archive post is something of a chronicle, covering a subject matter that I’ve touched on multiple times over the course of the blog’s life time. The majority of posts took place in 2004-2005, but the final thoughts came in 2011, which is why this is backdated to 2011 rather than when the earliest posts were done.

A little late but…

You know… I didn’t really react to this when I first saw it. Maybe if something like this was done ten years ago or so, I would have been shocked or something. But today? Not really. I’ll give you a couple reasons;

1 – The Spider-Man in question refers to Ultimate Spider-Man, the one that was floating around in Marvel’s Ultimate brand for about a decade or so. Marvel wouldn’t have the balls to kill off the traditional Spider-Man we all know and loved, despite the supposed big deal being made around the killing-off of one of the Fantastic Four (whom will no doubt be ressurected in a few months or so).

On a side note, I’m not making a big deal out of this whole “Three” storyline because it’s been done before. See Fantastic Four #381.

2 – In comics, characters never really stay dead. They’ll eventually come back in a few years or so. So if they pull this out, the only people who would give Marvel the reaction they’re looking for with this storyline are the folks who don’t know any better.

3 – We already had a Death of Spider-Man storyline. It’s called One More Day.

That’s it.

Classic Bite Commentary #100 – August 5th, 2010

It’s been a good couple months since my last Bite commentary, where I experimented with the wonderful world of audio/video format. It feels so refreshing to shoot my thoughts on audio and just ramble for 15-20 minutes on a variety of stuff. I’ll probably do another one in the near future, but for now, I’ve got a bunch of stuff to talk about… after the break.

COMIC REVIEW – Spider-Man: Grim Hunt (Marvel)

So the four-part Amazing Spider-Man event story, Grim Hunt (issues 634-637), has recently come to a close and the only way I can sum up this whole saga is… Meh. It has its moments, but ultimately Grim Hunt isn’t a satisfying story nor is it a depressing story. It’s just there, adding to a status quo that keeps changing every couple months.

Want more? Read on, but there be spoilers here.
