Is It Still Better Than Nothing If You Get Nothing?

Source: https://www.timeextension.com/news/2025/01/after-what-feels-like-a-lifetime-amazon-is-cancelling-mighty-no-9-3ds-and-vita-pre-orders

Apparently, Amazon – the seller of reputable items like NES multicart and dodgy emulator boxes – have cancelled pre-orders for the non-existent 3DS and PS Vita versions of Mighty No. 9.

You remember Mighty No. 9, no? The brainchild of Inafking that YOU thought was going to be the spiritual successor to Mega Man and ended up being… better than nothing?

I honestly don’t know why Amazon took this long to get the hint that these things weren’t coming, considering Mighty No. 9 is no longer a thing and Inafking’s Comcept company was absorbed by another company not long after the game’s release and not so much as a fart was mentioned afterwards. I’d understand if there was still any chance of this being a thing, but the 3DS and PSP (or is it Vita? I don’t even care anymore) are but distant memories now. Would anyone even care at this point?

Even With THE ROCK, They Couldn’t Break A Million

Source: https://itrwrestling.com/news/the-rock-helps-wwe-nxt-break-five-year-long-record/

First off, let me stress that 957,000 viewers for NXT is a great number. It’s probably their best number in years and a large part of that is due to Dwayne’s appearance. I haven’t seen the show, but it was a show according to people who did watch the show and Dwayne claimed to be 20 steps ahead of everyone else… which tells me they’re just making this shit up as they go along and hope no one notices.

That having been said, I really thought that maybe – just maybe – they might actually break that magical million number; something that they really haven’t done since AEW’s debut on television back in 2019. Alas, even with the help of THE ROCK, they couldn’t quite get the job done. So maybe – just maybe – AEW has a chance of winning this ratings war with a banger of a show.

Oh, who am I kidding? They’ll probably do the same 500-600k number they’ll always do and tout that as a huge success in wrestling or something.

Well… That Didn’t Take Long…

Taken from Twitter (because of course, it is), this is apparently a real thing in which some Dairy Queen outlet in some hick British Columbian town is selling two dollar burgers to commemorate the inevitable resignation of Babyface Trudeau. Some people find this funny. Others are somewhat miffed.

I’m largely ambivalent. Not angry enough to boycott Dairy Queen (not that there are any around my neck of woods to boycott in the first place), but I’m also like… “Meh… really?”

Are the burgers any good at least?

“Babyface” Trudeau Speaks Moistly No More

Someone did a video of soon-to-be former PM Justin “Babyface” Trudeau’s rather “unfortunate” choice of words during a press conference years ago. Said video was featured on this blog once upon a time.

This is pretty much the only happy memory there is to be had with Trudeau, who has been in office since 2015 and has been on a downward spiral ever since. Part of me wonders if he took a walk in the snow in much the same way his old man did when he stepped down from office back in ’84.

Truth be told, I’ve had no issues with the man until I read the news. Maybe ignorance and obliviousness are better allies that I would have imagined, but every stupid thing I hear him say or do makes me facepalm and headdesk. Really, when you’ve done such a shitty job running the country that the buffoon taking office down decides that the country in question should be another state, that’s when you know it’s time to throw in the towel.

Pierre Elliot Trudeau’s famous words were “Just watch me.”

Well, Canadians did watch Justin Trudeau… walk off a cliff and land head first into the trashheap.

Like I said, I’ve no issues with the man personally… but I ain’t shedding a tear over his loss, either. I can only hope that the next PM ends up being a far better deal than what we’ve had this past decade because we really need it.

RAW (January 6th, 2025) – Playing The Role Of Vince McMahon… NETFLIX!

It’s the first RAW on Netflix… a new era in WWE programming.

And it was… a show…

Not sure what you were expecting me to say. Not sure what you were expecting out of this show. It was a big show, sure… but it wasn’t FUCKING BIG SHOW or anything like that. He’s signed with AEW at the moment.

Anyway, some notes on this three-hour show… because RAW is back to three hours again… so one less show for me to watch per week.

Another Minecraft Movie Trailer

Listen, I’m not a Minecraft player. I know nothing about Minecraft. The appeal of Minecraft is not foreign to me, but it’s just not something that I ever found myself tempted to play. As such, I have no real interest in the Minecraft movie starring Jack Black as Puppet Steve.

That having been said… this looks like every comedy movie where kids get sucked into another reality and meet a kooky character to try and escape this world or learn to live with it. It’s nothing we haven’t seen done better or worse before. It looks like harmless fare that you take the kids who are more into Minecraft than you are to watch. If this popped up on Netflix somewhere and I had nothing better to do, I’d probably pop this up as background noise or something to keep me occupied or something.

Honestly, this looks like typical kids fare. Not much to say about that. I’ve seen worse video game movie outings. Hell, I’ve seen worse movie outings. This doesn’t look like any of that. It’ll either be a big hit or it’ll be quickly forgotten about save for the couple memes some moron on Twitter might pull out of it, but either way, it’s a thing that’s happening and then everyone moves on.

A Minecraft Movie hits theaters in April of this year.

Smackdown (January 3rd, 2025) – XL Sized

Welp, it’s finally happened. Smackdown has moved to three hours.

That’s one less show for me to watch on a weekly (or is it weakly) basis, but let’s give the first SD of the year a shot before we completely abandon it. I betcha it’s going to have lots of fun stuff involving Diet Bloodline and wondering when Dwayne is showing up?

Or maybe we’re just using this show to hype up tonight’s RAW, which will be the first Netflix episode.

At Least He’s Happy…

From The Gimmick Attorney’s Twitter Handle

Yeah, there’s going to be jokes a-plenty… but let’s be honest; there have been worse and far stupider names in wrestling than someone shortening their last name to one syllable. Besides, it’s not like we couldn’t have seen this coming… how quickly we forgot that this man was TNT Champion and held the COPE OPEN?

And look at him. He’s happy and gleeful. Why would anyone want to crap on this man’s happiness at this stage in his life? Especially after everything that he’s been through with injuries and the hurricane and all that stuff?

Besides, is it really any dumber of a name than EDGE? EDGE – let’s be honest – is a dumb name… but he made a career out of it, so it worked.

If the man wants to be COPE, let him be COPE.

He’s earned that privilege.

And think of all the jokes you could come up with.

That’s a win-win proposition in my book.

P.S. If he doesn’t have a move called the COPE-ing Mechanism, I will be severely disappointed.

TNA Impact (January 2nd, 2025) – Filling In The Slots Left Behind By WWE

Yes, we’re doing the first episode of Impact in 2025… but this one is a little more significant in that it’s the first new Impact to air on Sportsnet 360, the Canadian sports channel that, up until recently, was home to WWE programming and with that having gone to Netflix, that left an opening for programming that could have been filled with MOAR CANADIAN CONTENT… but I guess because TNA is now owned by Anthem Sports (a Canadian group – yes, TNA is owned by Canadians, which would made one-time heel faction Team Canada the rulers of TNA until they shitcanned Scott D’Amore), that makes them Canadian content and thus slots were filled.

So, yeah, while the title might sound like a bit of a joke, it’s not technically wrong. And honestly, it’s a big deal for TNA. Sportsnet has much greater visibility in Canada than the Fight Network does. And apparently, TNA programming was all over Sportsnet on New Year’s Day, which would’ve been nice to had known beforehand, but… whatever. What’s important is that we have a new year of Impact to check out and it’s… another episode of Impact.

See, the move to Sportsnet is a big deal in Canada to a degree, but not so much in America, where it’s business as usual, I suppose.

AEW Dynamite (January 1st, 2025) – Fight For The Fallen

Happy New Year from your friends at All Elite Wrestling. Celebrate the occasion with a special “Fight For The Fallen” edition of AEW Dynamite from Asheville, to help support those recovering the hurricane last year. Well, that’s a rather nice gesture for them to do. I’ll give them that much.

Besides that, this is the first Dynamite show to be simucast on both TBS and the MAX Streaming Service as part of the new AEW/WBD TV deal that will let them do more of these things. Admittedly, I have been down on AEW as of late, but you know what? It’s a new year (yes, it is) and since I’m making a point to watch all the first shows of the year and doing musings on them, I might as well kick things off with Dynamite.

For those wondering, Impact will be up tomorrow. Smackdown will be up on Sunday. If I have the channel that Collision is airing on (a former Discovery channel redubbed USA Network – no relation), there will be that going up on Monday. And of course, the first RAW of the Netflix era will be covered on Tuesday… and then Wednesday will be stuff. Don’t expect regular weekly write-ups on these things or anything like that unless I happen to like the shows and dub them worth the effort; this is just a one off to see which of these shows kicks off the new year with a strong effort. Dynamite, of course, is the first one up… so it’ll have to be a real “banger” of a show (as the kids say) if it’s going to maintain its crown or something.

Anyhoo, here are some observations I’ve made during the show – not a blow for blow show recap because that requires a commitment that is well above my non-existent paygrade, but just notes on some stuff that I noticed or something. The usual output for this blog.
