Goldberg’s Retirement Speech

So, for those who missed it, Goldberg had his retirement match at Saturday Night’s Main Event last weekend; a losing effort against World Champion GUNTHER. And then as he was giving his retirement speech, the show went off the air. WWE eventually posted the entire speech on Youtube.

Some folks (including Goldberg) assumed that the timing was a rib on Goldberg and the whole thing was due to whatever heat was left over between he and HHH over shit from two decades ago, when the reality could have been that NBC was dead set on ending the show at a certain time and the show ended when it did. It’s no different from when Sting had his retirement match at an AEW PPV last year and only had ten seconds of PPV time to cut a speech that was eventually posted online afterwards. Sometimes, it’s just bad timing.

Could they have timed it better? Of course they could have… and had it been the other guy in charge, I could absolutely believe this whole thing to be a complete rib… but in this case, I’ll give WWE the benefit of the doubt. This was out of their hands. I blame the peacock. Direct your spears towards NBC, Bill.

Still, for someone like Goldberg to be salty about how their retirement match turned out? I don’t know, man. I’ve seen others have last matches that turned out far worse than what you got. Kurt Angle wishes he could redo his last match. Ric Flair wishes he could have ten more last matches. With all the hype and hooplah over Goldberg’s last match… I personally didn’t care much, but someone must have cared enough to push for this to be treated as a bigger deal for a guy who was known for his time OUTSIDE WWE.

Don’t worry about that. Just go to the theater and watch Superdog.

No, Seriously, Superman Is Good…

No full review or anything like that. No deep dive… if I feel like it, we’ll do one towards the end of the year… but I will say this much. It’s nice to have a Superman movie that isn’t ashamed of being a Superman movie. It’s nice to see a comic book movie embrace the absurdity of the universe it’s establishing. It’s nice to see a movie that isn’t five hours long.

Does it have issues? Sure, there are some emotional bits that are undercut by a stray joke here and there. You could make the argument that they may have crammed in too much, but I thought they did a fine job of balancing everything out. You’ve got a good Superman, you’ve got a good Luthor, the side characters have their moments… and then there’s the dog.

The dog is the best part of the movie.

No doubt it’ll be the best part of [REDACTED.]

So, yes, Superman is good.

WCW/nWo Road Wild 1998

Yes, this is the one that you’re waiting for me to revisit, isn’t it?

The one with Jay “Big Jaw” Leno.

You know, contrary to past claims, I’m not quite as dreading this revisit. It’s been well over a decade since I last touch this thing. On the one hand, I don’t expect this to be a better show. If anything, I’m expect this to be as bad as I remember it.

On the other hand, though, I have seen considerably more WCW material in the past two years alone and certainly enough that I might have something more to add to this show longer after my last viewing. Does the additional exposure to WCW in recent time, thus making some of this stuff as fresh as it was back in the day, does that give me new appreciation for this show and perhaps see in softer eyes? Or is it the same old shit that I perceived it to be ages ago? Or… maybe it’s gotten worse?

Only one way to find out, I suppose.

Superpwn

For those wondering, no, I have not seen the movie yet. We’ll see about doing that later today if there’s time. However, word of mouth has generally been positive… with some reservations. And there’s the usual white noise from certain political circles.

I had a post here that was going to touch on one thing in particular, but decided against actually posting it. That’s veering into territory that I would rather not touch on and also it’s a horrible way to start off a wonderful weekend with some wonderful weather… or so I’m told.

I don’t know… I’m gonna wash the car in the morning and go from there.

Later.
