The Rock To Star In Rampage Movie… Not That One…

So, word has come out that the Rock is going to be starring in the new Rampage movie. Source here.

First hearing that, I had assumed that German schlockmeister Uwe Boll somehow got the funding needed to produce his third movie and somehow shoehorned Dwayne Johnson into it, thus proving that being an insufferable asshole on the Internet is the key to success.

But as it turns out, the Rampage movie in question is actually an adaptation of the old Midway arcade game where you got to play as giant monsters and demolish cities. Apparently, the people who did that horrifically generic San Andreas film is also on hand to bring this thing to life.

All things considered, I would’ve preferred Uwe Boll behind the wheel.

Then again, considering his track record…

Never mind.

Did You Know WWE Once Rehired Vince Russo?

On this very day thirteen years ago, newly-renamed World Wrestling Entertainment had rehired Vince Russo to be their head writer, overseeing lead writers Brian Gewirtz and Paul Heyman who were heading the RAW and SmackDown brands respectively. This actually created quite a bit of buzz among some folks, especially since Mr. Russo – once one of the driving forces behind the WWF Attitude era – had come off a less than stellar stint over at World Championship Wrestling a year or so prior.

If you’re wondering what the former Vic Venom did during his short stint in WWE, the answer is not much, as after one of his ideas was shot down, he was quickly relegated down to a mere consulting position before eventually being given the best of wishes in all his future endeavors… future endeavors in TNA, of course. In all honesty, one would have to wonder how the WWE product would’ve differed if Russo had been given the reigns.

Who knows? Somewhere in the multiverse, there’s a TNA out there that never got the benefit of Vince Russo’s input… and maybe would be better off, all things considered.

WWE Money In The Bank 2015

Well, it’s WWE’s annual spotfest for a World Title shot… yippee… I don’t know how much I’m supposed to care here, but I’ll give it the ol’ college try I suppose.

So, they start off with a ten-bell salute to the late Dusty Rhodes… won’t say much here except, “Godspeed, Dream. And thanks for the memories.”

Capcom Announces Mega Man Legacy Collection… Again?

So it’s essentially a digital compilation of the six NES Mega Man games, but rebuilt from the ground up so that they look better in 1080p or something. And there’ll be CHALLENGES and LEADERBOARDS and REPLAYS… and there’s a MUSEUM of SKETCHES and… yawn.

Look, I get why Capcom is putting something like this out and especially this summer, when Keiji Inafune’s spiritual Mega successor Mighty No. 9 is supposed to hit the streets. I get that Capcom wants to counter something inspired by Mega Man with the genuine article. And I’m not discounting the work it takes in rebuilding the old games to modern standards; if they turn out to be anywhere near the quality of the Sonic The Hedgehog rebuilds on mobile devices, I’m sure they’ll look splendid and maybe overall performance will be a touch better.

At the same time, however, this does feel like a lazy offering. I get that it’s only the six NES games and not the entire Classic Series, which includes a couple non-NES games, but if they’re going to rebuild the games, do you think it’s worth it to add something a little more substantial than an upscale and some minor tidbits to differentiate this collection from playing the NES originals or the Anniversary Collection released a couple years prior or the Virtual Console releases? Maybe a couple bonus levels, maybe a mini-game, maybe try and make an 8-bit version of that Wily Tower game from the Mega Drive remake?

Oh well… I’m sure I’ll pick this up eventually… but I’ll probably wait until it’s on sale or something because… I’m not feeling it.
