Review #1276 – Valis III (PC Engine)

Delayed? Was that what I said? Scratch that. You can have this one early. I’m in a good mood.

When someone tells that you’ve played an inferior version of a good game and after playing the “real” game, your only reaction is meh. It’s not a knock of Valis III, which remains the best of the Valis games in my opinion and there are some nice improvements here and there… but otherwise, it’s the same game I’ve played before but faster. Works for me.

Valis III Delayed A Bit… But Disney Afternoon Finally Hits Switch Next Month

Source: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2026/01/disney-afternoon-collection-finally-comes-to-switch-1-and-2-includes-two-additional-games

Yeah, the Valis III video is going to be a bit delayed… but should be up tonight. If nothing else, it’ll be a far short wait than Switch owners who were looking forward to the Disney Afternoon Collection’s eventual release that never came… until now… and by now, I mean next month.

And… AND… it’ll come with TWO additional games; Goof Troop and Bonkers, both SNES games. How ’bout that?

So… does that mean the pre-existing Steam release will see an update? Or do I have to double dip?

WCW Monday Nitro (Jan. 29th, 1996) – The One With The Shoe

This is the show with the Ric Flair/Hulk Hogan match where Ric Flair beats Hogan with Elizabeth’s shoe. Yes, a bunch of run-ins and a really stupid finish took place, but let’s not bury the lede here: after four years across two promotions, Flair finally gets a rare win over the Hulkster. That’s pretty much the only thing worth mentioning on this show.

Well, the Road Warriors make their return and there’s some further squabbling between Kevin Sullivan and Brian Pillman also featured Arn Anderson, who left his glock at home and instead issues a challenge.

Not much to this one. Next.

Review #1275 – Valis II (PC Engine)

Hello. It’s the debut of Valis on PC Engine, even though it’s the sequel to a prior game that we’ve looked at that’s actually a remake of an earlier computer game. Are we confused yet? Try not to think too hard about this one.

Friday’s review will be on Valis III for PC Engine and then next week, it’ll be a couple Mega Drive ports and the Famicom version of Valis I, which I make no reservations of not looking forward to playing. It might actually be more distressful to play than Order Of Ecclesia.

Not A Fan Of The New Youtube Player

Remember the good ol’ days when Youtube had a functional layout that wasn’t all that fancy, but it was nice and customizable… and then they turned it into a layout that was far less customizable and was ugly… and nowhere near as functional, but it looked like Facebook because Google wanted their own Facebook-like social site that just ended up in the graveyard like all their other failed experiments?

Good times.

So about a month or so ago, Youtube updated their video player… which, to be fair, is still the same functional thing that it’s always been… but the layout is a little less mouse friendly. Back then, I can hover over the volume button and use the wheel to control the volume. Can’t really do that now with the embedded version of the player, which kinda sucks. Also, I’m not a fan of the button layouts. Before everything was on the bottom and it was nice and convenient; now everything is all over the place and it sucks.

Hey, Youtube. Not everything has to resemble your ultra-shitty mobile app that functions about as well as a Disney Plus streamer. You can keep the vintage stuff that works well and people will adapt… or maybe take the vintage stuff on the desktop that actually WORKS and stick it on your mobile app shit so that I can tolerate using that pile of shit.

Again, to be fair, Youtube’s app on devices like Apple or Switch is a fair bit better than Netflix, Disney Plus… the list goes on.

I may have gone a bit too far in places…

I’ll be going now…

Later.

Saturday Night’s Main Event (Jan. 24th, 2026) – A Hot Night In Montreal? You Jest.

So I wasn’t really planning on watching this show, but an acquaintance of mine did attend the show with some friends – somehow putting up with the frigid temperatures that would kill any human – and told me that it was a genuinely good show worth checking out on the Youtube feed… and that person is someone whom whenever they say a WWE show is actually good, I can generally take their word for it because we have similar tastes.

So I gave the show a watch and… while it’s not selling me on whatever WWE is doing right now, it was a delightful one-night distraction from everything else… and the best part of it all? Not a single lick of Logan Paul anywhere in sight.

Review #1274 – Valis I (PC Engine)

Our (better late than never) deep dive into Valis continues with a remake of the first game in the series that came out after the third game in the series… try to keep up. It gets less confusing.

Yeah, so we’re using the Valis Collection versions for these games, which only have the Japanese versions, which is a shame because the localized English dubs aren’t too bad in comparison to most dubs done around this time. Alas, I don’t have a Turbo-CD and those games cost an arm and an leg that could go to… well, another arm or leg.

WWE 2K26 Now Has A McSon-In-Law Edition… NO BUYS

First, we’ve got Attitude. Then we’ve got Monday Night. Now we have King Of Kings edition… yeah… no… doesn’t work for me, brother…

The above image sums my feelings up nicely…

Valis I review coming up around 6 or 7 p.m.

Someone Asks If Switch 2 Is Worth Getting After Six Months

Source: https://nintendoisgreat.substack.com/p/six-months-after-launch-is-the-switch

So today’s video review on Valis I for PC Engine is going to posted later tonight since I wanted to make a couple last minute editing changes before going ahead with the final render and I’m probably not going to have time to do those changes until the afternoon hours since we have a snowstorm and also we have extreme cold. Beyond that, we’re on track for the most part on things.

With that out of the way, I direct you to a recent post from Nintendo Is Great covering the six months of Switch 2 and whether the first-party selection is worth getting the console at this time. Obviously, it depends on the individual and obviously, those who already own Switch 2s at this point already know the answer, but it is an interesting read, regardless, and sort of lines up with my own feelings on the matter… although another part of my not wanting a Switch 2 at this time also boils down to pricing, as well as a backlog of material that will more than pre-occupy my gaming time for the foreseeable future.

WWE 2K26 Goes To War On Monday – Pretty Please Buy Our Game

Source: https://www.f4wonline.com/news/wwe/monday-night-wars-edition-of-wwe-2k26-announced/

Funny how these things work out, huh?

No sooner after the post regarding the WWE 2K26 Attitude Era Edition went live did the announcement go out that now there’s going to be a Monday Night Wars edition of WWE 2k26, which will also include WCW Nitro content. Holy balls, Mean Gene. 2k must REALLY want me to spend hundreds of dollars for one year of supported premium content that’s going to get dropped like a hat once the NEXT game gets announced or even scribbled on a notepad during conceptual meetings.

Yeah… no… doesn’t work for me, brother.

Oh well… we’re going full-bore nostalgia train with this one, aren’t we? At least we can potentially recreate the Monday Night Wars in which the winner at the end of it all is Roman Reigns. That’s how it works, no?

How long before the Extreme pack gets announced? Come on, 2K. I know you want to, you lousy bastards.
