WWF In Your House #27 – St. Valentine’s Day Massacre (Feb. 1999)

Consider this a bonus musings. A timely one, if you will.

So twenty years, in the midsts of the Attitude Era, the Monday Night Wars, and the never-ending Austin Vs. McMahon feud, the World Wrestling Federation held their February PPV offering on Valentine’s Day. The main event is a Steel Cage match between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Mr. Vincent Kennedy Mac-Kuh-Man-Hun. This show was surprisingly outdrawn by the competing WCW Superbrawl show, featuring a match between Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan in what may be WCW’s last good performing show in… ever.

It’s been twenty years and I wanted to give this show a look.

WWE Heck In A Cell 2018

So there were three Network shows that took place in the past two months. One was playing in the background and I ended up watching first (as evidenced by the subsequent posting made). The other took place just this past weekend and I ended up not watching due to lack of interest. And then the other show is the subject of today’s post.

In any event, I completely forgot about the Hell In A Cell show until a couple weeks ago, so here we are. I’ve heard some good things about this show as well as some bad things, but the only reason I even bothered to watch this is spelled out for you in the banner for this post. That having been, this is being posted after two other events have already taken place and I will try NOT to elude to events I have yet to see… but sometimes, you know, I just can’t help myself.

WCW Super Slow-Down (Australia House Show)

So World Championship Wrestling has made their long-awaited return to Australia and they’ve gone with the successful formula of young, talented guys in the undercard while the main event comprises two old guys who can’t wrestle a lick worth a damn and has to resort to smoke and mirrors to put on a “compelling” main event.

Yep, sounds like a WCW show to me.

My attention was largely fleeting for this one since this is just background noise for the sake of background noise… but I did watch a good chunk of the show when it was interesting, so you’ll have some thoughts in some places while in other places, I’ll be brief.

WWF In Your House 5 (December 1995 PPV)

After that amazing Survivor Series PPV that brought an end to the Diesel World title reign thanks to Bret Hart, we bring the 1995 string of WWF Pay-Per-View events to a close with the fifth In Your House event, with a new champion and a new direction that eventually involves a Tony Stark match or something.

WWF Survivor Series 1995

So this is it? This is the end of the Diesel line… and all I can say is… well, shit. I don’t know. I wasn’t around when this took place. I was too busy watching Power Rangers and shit.

This is one of the few WWF shows that I had on VHS, thanks to a shop that sold old VHS tapes ages ago. Actually, that shop had a bunch of WWF (and some WCW) tapes from before the Attitude stuff and I’d pick up a couple every once in a while… much to the consternation of the guy running the cash. I swear, every time I stop at the cash with one or two of said tapes, he’d make a snide remark or something.

And I’m like, “Yeah, dude. I buy wrestling tapes from your store. I was probably the only guy buying said tapes from your store while your overpriced collector’s sets were sitting in the display collecting dust.” It puzzles me that the guy running the shop would have a disdain for something yet continue to carry it.

After a while, I had enough of the idiotic attitude that I stopped going. Turns out I lucked at the flea market where a guy had a bunch of old wrestling tapes that I not only got for cheaper, but the guy was so willing to part with them that I got a pretty sweet deal out of it. As for the other shop, it went out of business and in its place today is a dollar store.

But I digress… back to Survivor Series 95.

WWF In Your House 3: Triple Header (September 1995)

Changing gears from the 2003 misery… by going back to 1995 and spreading the misery there. We’ll try and kill this in one week.

I want to go back to the third WWF In Your House event, since I already watched the first two events via WWE Network and I figure it’d make sense to continue from there. If nothing else, it’ll be a short two hour show that’ll probably suck, but I actually have a good feeling about this one. I’ll be watching the Network version of the show, but I do have the show on VHS tape from Coliseum Video and I remember actually enjoying the show for the most part.

So let’s give this a shot.

WWE Summerslam 2018

Yeah, well… I have a life, you know. I ain’t sitting down for a long-ass four-hour PPV every month just to fill up post count. I’ve got plenty of lazy doodles off my phone I could upload for that.

So I watched some of Summerslam, right up to the WWE Championship match and that’s probably the only way I could go on with this WWE PPV business if I remember there was a PPV going on. And then as the week went along, I’d watch the rest of the show… took me a couple shots to get through the whole thing, but I did it. This is probably the only way I could watch these long-ass shows going forward, but anyway, let’s get this over with…
