When the label on the cartridge is more interesting than the game itself, it’s time to call it a career. Then again, more effort probably went into the label than the game itself, which isn’t entirely terrible, but still…

Review #1293 – Magical Tetris Challenge (Nintendo 64)
After almost three years of untouched and unloved dormancy, Nintendo 64 returns to the spotlight in grand fashion… in the form of a video review spotlighting a Tetris game featuring classic Disney characters. Did you honestly expect anything less?
But if that doesn’t tickle your fancy… No Mercy hits Monday. That’ll be a jam up game.
Review #1292 – Parodius (Famicom)
Yes, we are doing a Parodius game before we’re even sniffing a Gradius game… though it’s not for a lack of trying, let me tell you. But yes, it’s about time we dive into that stash of Famicom carts that I’ve got laying around here and start playing these bloody things for once.’
Been doing some trial runs with adding borders to the NES/Famicom widescreen footage and then I found myself playing a bunch of Parodius and having a blast with it, so I figured why not? Not the first time that I’ve tackled a series out of order, nor will it be the last.
Yes, we’re reshuffling reviews here. A couple changes here and there, but we should be on track… somewhat.
Review #1291 – City Connection (NES)
The game so awesome it got a video game company named after it… and just for shits and giggles, I’ve even included a mild tribute to a long defunct personality of sorts that has been a frequent subject matter of this webzone years ago. Hope he’s doing well these days.
Honestly, I think this review needed to happen sooner than later and I was surprised that I had never touched this one back in the day considering it was the game being covered.
For those who want to watch the video commentary, you can do so here.
Review #1290 – JAWS: Retro Edition (Switch)
Somewhere along the way, someone decided that JAWS needed to be brought back to the masses and in a way that doesn’t entirely suck… which is funny because of the various LJN-published licensed games based on popular movies, JAWS was probably one of the less sucky ones to pick out of the lot and this enhanced version… well, I can appreciate the effort and the ambition if nothing else.
Oh, and I see Jeremy Parrish of NES Works fame had a hand in this development. Now I know who to blame for time lost replaying this rubbish… but do check out his Youtube channel, which is always quality material.
Review #1289 – Space Intervention (Switch)
So last week, I did a video pondering how I was going to spend my five dollar Nintendo eShop gift card. This video is (part of) the answer.
Review #1288 – The Peace Keepers (Super NES)
Hey, look at that. This one’s early, so let’s keep the peace, everyone… by beating everyone up into pieces… or something… I don’t know…
The final game in the Rushing Beat trilogy left me a bit conflicted, but not as bad as Rival Turf, I suppose. On the fence as to whether I’ll be getting the new one that’s out in a month… yes, there’s another coming up… that’s all we need these days are more of these revivals that are… well… that’s another story for another time.
Review #1287 – Brawl Brothers (Super NES)
Part 2 of the Rushing Beat trilogy disguised as another generic brawler. Best run away or run to? I dunno!
Review #1286 – Rival Turf (Super NES)
Beating the rush with Rival Turf, for when Final Fight at home isn’t good enough, you can play the somehow even lesser version of Fight Fight At Home at home… and this one has 2-player co-op!
This week has us venturing through the localized ports of the Rushing Beat trilogy, which will also include subsequent titles Brawl Brothers and The Peace Keepers. Despite my claim of a trio of mediocre brawlers, Rival Turf is probably the only game to really fit that descriptor… which is good because I’d hate to play three of these things that are out and out bad.
Review #1285 – River Rescue (Atari 8-Bit)
Another dip into Antstream, you say? Will wonders ever cease? Of course, they will, but until then, we’ve got River Rescue, a game that makes me wish I were playing River Raid, instead. But the Xbox Game Pass has that and the stream there is kinda shit… even though it’s powered by Antstream, which generally runs okay at home… not so much off my phone, which doesn’t surprise me.
