Random Thoughts On Double Or Nothing, Hana Kimura, TNA

In case anyone was wondering – god knows why – no, I will not be watching the Double Or Nothing PPV event taking place tonight. Under a different set of circumstances, I probably would jump at the chance… but the prevailing circumstances of the world we live in (as well as – let’s be honest – the rather hefty price tag) means I won’t be watching this show. Maybe somewhere down the line, when things are better, I might order the replay, but for the moment, I can only wish AEW the best in trying to put together the most kick-ass show possible.

Too bad, too… I was actually looking forward to that Stampede Stadium event or whatever it was called.
Also, sad to hear about the passing of Stardom star Hana Kimura and the circumstances surrounding it. It’s… pretty dreadful that we go online to share our love and passion for something, only for some unruly folks to ruin it. Folks, if you’re at a point where things look bleak, it’s okay to seek help. There are options… and Twitter isn’t one of them.
To end this on a somewhat happy note, I’ve been watching some terrible old TNA PPVs for the purposes of posting terrible PPV musings. I clearly missed out on some grade-ASS quality sports bullshit.
Thank you, Shoulders Torelli, for coining a new thing that I’m going to stick with until the end of time.

Warner Bros. To Rethink Action And Romance

Source: https://www.newsarama.com/50051-arrow-verse-riverdale-more-rethinking-love-scenes-fight-scenes-in-post-covid-19-reality-of-filming.html

So the above article from Newsarama states that a Warner Bros. meeting was discussing means of producing shows in a post “prevailing circumstances” world; most notably in regards to its fight and romance sequences.

Specifically, folks want to limit as much physical contact as possible while filming their shows, which probably means hand-to-hand combat, loving embraces, and even pecks on the cheek could be a thing of the past.

Yeah, honestly, this is not for me.

Look, I get these are trying times and we need to do our part to be safe and protect others. I also get the need to produce fresh new entertainment to take our minds off the world around us. Unfortunately, a lot of the new entertainment taking place right now is doing nothing but remind me of the world outside. Whether it’d be webcam concerts that were good enough for Youtube or empty arenas playing host to combat sports or wrestling, there is never a point where I’m consuming current material that isn’t reminding me of the prevailing circumstances.

You want to know what I watch these days? Old wrestling shows via WWE Network, Youtube, and Impact Plus. Old movies and television shows on Netflix or the various DVD and Blu-Rays in my collection. I watch Youtube videos; primarily stuff relating to video games and wrestling. These are some of the things tha pre-occupy my day that isn’t based on life needs and web material.

I rarely consume current content before the pandemic hit due to its largely heavy political slant. I want a diversion, not an agenda. And now given the future that mass media entertainment could be headed towards for the foreseeable future, I’m not sure I’m going to want to watch anything on the boom tube anytime soon.

Yeah, so that’s my piece.

Zelda Classic Is Still A Thing

Zelda Classic is still a thing… because they’re hosting a 20th Anniversary contest.

That’s amazing. It really is… and I’ve dabbled in Zelda Classic here and there. It’s a great game, a great port of the NES Legend Of Zelda, and there’s plenty of custom content that keeps that thing going strong. It is, for all intents and purposes, my preferred way of playing Zelda 1.
In a period where fan games based on Nintendo properties are C&D into oblivion, it’s nice to see that one of these fan efforts is not only still around, but still heavily supported to this day by the people developing the thing. The most recent version upgrades the engine further so that the gameplay can feel more like the later games.
Go check it out if you can, especially if you like your classic Zelda.

These WWE PPV Posters Suck

You know… I don’t want to do the whole “shit on WWE” thing here. I’d much rather be talking about other stuff that’s happier and shit… but why do these posters suck?

I mean, it’s just the four champions smiling and looking goofy with extra photo philtering shit. The whole thing looks awful from an artistic or layout standpoint. What is this supposed to convey? How is this supposed to get me excited for a bunch of idiots running through Titan Tower to grab a briefcase on the roof?

Oh, you didn’t know?

This year’s MiTB matches will feature jabronis running through WWE World Headquarters and making their way to the roof to grab a briefcase for a future title shot… which means they’re trashing the joint… this on a week where they needlessly fired a bunch of people.

Hey, it’ll be something different at least… and perhaps an excuse to have one of those “cinematic” matches that are all the rage. Quite frankly, though, I’ll probably watch something else that night… presumably a show that doesn’t have a shitty poster to promote it.

WWE Grants The Revival Immediate Releases

So, after two years of requesting and harruphing for their releases, Scott Wilder and Dash Dawson of the Revival were finally granted their immediate release from WWE. Good for them and best of luck in all their future endeavors.

I guess we’ll see them on AEW next week.

Oh wait…

FOX To Offer Empty Arena Mania On PPV For $59.99!

Source: https://www.f4wonline.com/wwe-news/fox-offer-wrestlemania-ppv-non-exclusively-more-wwefs1-content-307751

So WWE and FOX have signed a deal where FOX will be able to charge folks sixty bucks to watch a taped “Wrestlemania” eminating in various empty arenas. This deal also includes over 20 hours of additional content that you can already check out on the WWE Network for far, far less.

Yeah, this has bad idea written all over it. Bad enough people were questioning the idea when Mania was going to be the usual Mania offering, but doing it under this climate and in this format… which has been a bad idea since day one? I am not entirely optimistic about this going over so well.

Thirty Years Ago

It’s hard to believe it’s been thirty years.

I recall first hearing about this back in the day and I was surprised. Never got to see this one in theaters; the closest I could get to experiencing the film were through the few commercials and preview clips they’d show on TV… as well as the comic book adaptation that was quite excellent. Once I got to see the film, it was probably the greatest thing I’ve seen.

And you know what? Thirty years later, it still holds up.

Other Turtle movies have come along the way and the quality varies… but at the end of the day, I always go back to this one. It’s a great take on the material and a nice amalgamation of the popular versions of these characters. Honestly, if someone were to ask me the best introduction to Turtle lore, I’d go with this movie. All the good bits, none of the bad ones.

I can’t ever go back to the old cartoon… never had the guts… but the movie is fine. Better than fine. It’s great.
