This Mutant Mayhem Thing… It’s Gonna Suck, Isn’t It?

So Paramount released a trailer for their newest animated feature take on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles entitled Mutant Mayhem – you know, the one conceived by Seth Rogan… I guess. I’d supply a trailer, but I honestly don’t want to. And quite frankly, you can pretty much tell by the title of this post that I don’t have any positive vibes regarding this.

So I guess this stilted Spider-Verse 5 FPS animation style is a thing because that’s something they’re doing here and it looks awful. I mean, we’re at a point where we could have the smoothest, slickest animation in either hand-drawn or CG-rendered style that we could really hang our hats on and what passes as art is something goes “Let’s make this choppy and WORSE.”

Even setting that aside, the overall art style and character designs are just so bad. I get wanting to make the Turtles more like teenagers, but it feels like I’m watching Muppet Babies with Ninja Turtles. The overall tone of the whole deal feels a bit off. It seems like they’re aiming more towards goofy comedy with weird innuendo things that only the grown-ups will get. I’d be surprised if the people behind this thing realize the whole reason for the Turtles being a thing in the first place; they’re turtles that do cool ninja shit. Seth Rogan wouldn’t know cool ninja shit if it bit him in the ass.

And wait, is that Splinter with an afro? What the fuck am I watching here? I’m not even going to touch the thing that’s implied to be this movie’s version of April O’Neil. There’s a bunch of other people doing that already and quite honestly, my issues with this one trailer go beyond merely a new take on that character… or at least, that’s what I’m presuming… unless it’s supposed to be another character entirely, in which case… I’m rolling my eyes here…

I’ll be blunt here, folks. I am not feeling this one. This teaser trailer hasn’t left the strongest first impression. With that having been said, however, I have not totally soured on this thing. This isn’t a Ghostbusters 2016 deal where one bad trailer was all it took to decide that this wasn’t worth my time. This is more Star Trek Beyond Teaser that plays Beastie Boys and you’re just rolling your eyes at the whole thing… but then Beyond shot out a second trailer that did a better job of selling the movie. So my mindset is that the next trailer will do a better job of selling this thing than this did.

One thing is certain; I am not watching this in theatres. I’m at the point where if I’m going to watch a movie at a theatre, it’d better be worth the damned effort and this doesn’t quite reach that point. This is more “wait until it hit Netflix” or something like that. Or maybe grab a cheap DVD. Either way, from the teaser alone, the feeling I have is that this Mutant Mayhem thing… well, it’s probably gonna suck, isn’t it?

I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

NintendoLife’s 50 Years Of Influential Games Playable On Switch

Source: https://www.nintendolife.com/guides/feature-50-years-of-landmark-video-games-one-per-year-all-playable-on-nintendo-switch

This past weekend, NintendoLife put out a list of the most influential games over the course of the medium’s 50 year history that are playable on Switch. Basically, they pick out the most influential game of each year and list a way you could play the game on Switch; whether it’s via compilation, re-release, or remake. It’s actually a pretty good read if you have the time and a nice little time capsule on how far we’ve come since the days of Pong and The Oregon Trail.

No, I Still Have Not Watched Andor…

So a week or so ago, I re-activated my old Ask.fm account – Ask.fm being a place where people ask questions and you’d supply answers. I’d figure that would be a nice way of inviting more questions for the Q&A segments of the DTM-Cast that I need to start up again. Anyway, almost immediately, I’ve been bombarded with two types of questions. One type involves anything involving sex and relationships – those get tossed almost immediately. Another type involve random questions involving random things; these I will pick and choose to answer while others I will toss.

And then there’s one other person who drops in every day and asks the same question over and over and over again. The question in question: “Have you watched Andor yet? It’s a good show”

I have no idea why I’m being asked this question. The only assumption I could surmise is that someone really wants me to watch that Andor show that’s a prequel to Rogue One – you know, the movie where everyone dies at the end; sorry if I spoiled the movie for everyone. I have not seen the show nor do I have any interest in the show. Asking me to get invested in a character that’s going to die in the end for a whole miniseries seems like a big ask and Rogue One wasn’t a movie where I was big into the characters.

And so for anyone wondering, no, I have not watched Andor. I have no intention of watching Andor any time soon. I’m not going to say that I’m never going to watch it because, you know, some days will leave you with plenty of time to spare, but at the moment, not interested. Maybe next time.

Old Men Take Command Of Starship… Does Not End Well

So, in our latest episode of Star Trek: Picard, my new favorite character in all of Star Trek, Captain Liam Shaw, is incapacitated by the enemy bird ship and transfer command over to Captain Riker, who subsequently takes in retired admiral Picard as his first officer. This disappoints me greatly because Shaw is genuinely one of the better characters on this show and he deservers better than to be written off in such a fashion. However, he does get to contribute one tidbit to the overall plot.

Discovery Comes To An End In 2024

Source: https://blog.trekcore.com/2023/03/star-trek-discovery-to-end-with-season-five-in-2024/

Coming early 2024 is the fifth – and final – season of Star Trek: Discovery, the series that pretty much kickstarted this current era of Star Trek series and has been through a number of incarnations of its own. From Klingon Wars to Red Angels to 32nd century burns to DMA things or thongs or whatever, Discovery has undergone various changes along the way, but it’s coming to an end.

I dropped off the Discovery ride midway through the third season and never really jumped back. Even before then, it was a series that I’ve always had mixed feelings about. So while I’m not going to be sad by its run coming to an end, it does surprise me. And maybe there is a bit of concern if it’s the only one that’s going to get the ax.

It’s not secret that the various streaming services have been struggling. Paramount has made some streaming cuts to try and save some money. One wonders if an option being pursued is cutting down on the Trek shows since those tend to be on the pricey side of things. Maybe I’m overthinking things, but it does give some food for thought.

In any event, Star Trek: Discovery airs its final season in 2024. All the best to the cast and crew who had made that show possible.

Case Closed On Jeff Hardy’s Latest Drunk Driving Offense

Source: https://www.f4wonline.com/news/aew/jeff-hardys-license-suspended-for-10-years-dui-case-closed

So once upon a time, there was a guy named Jeff Hardy. He did rasslin’ things. He also did drug things. He apparently got off the drug things… or so his family says. But then he caught drunk driving. And so he was doing the court thing for quite a while until recently, when Jeff pleaded no contest and the case was closed.

Jeff Hardy’s full sentence is as follows (copied and pasted from the F4WOnline article linked above):

– A 38-day county jail sentence with 38 days credit for time served
– Two years probation
– $4586 in fines and court fees
– A 10-year suspension of his license
– Two years with an interlock device and 90-day vehicle impoundment
– Court-mandated DUI school or drug rehab program
– Community service

So now that the case is closed, cue the folks wondering when Jeff Hardy is going to get back to the rasslin’ thing. And if there is any good sense in the world… not for a very long time.

Will get back to this soon…

Haven’t We Been Here Before? – The Picard Season 3 Pre-Show Ramble

Tonight is the premiere episode of the third season of Star Trek: Picard.

The big TNG reunion season. The final season. The final journey. A clean break from the previous two seasons. That sort of thing. And you know what? Early reviews have been enthusiastic. It’s the best Trek in years. It’s the TNG reunion we should’ve had years. The press has been positive. Perhaps a bit too positive. This shouldn’t be cause for concern. This shouldn’t be raising any red flags. This shouldn’t be raising any shields. But it does on all counts.

The reason being that… I’ve been here before. I’ve seen this all before.

Student Prank To Cancel Class For Nintendo Direct Is A Terroristic Threat In America

Source: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2023/02/random-students-nintendo-direct-joke-leads-to-increased-campus-security

So, a professor got an e-mail that something is going to happen today and that for the good of humanity, they should cancel class. Concerned, the professor called the police and after a thorough investigation, discovered that the e-mail came from a student who intended as a joke to get classes cancelled so that he can watch the upcoming Nintendo Direct airing or whatever the fuck. The end result is that the cops will have increased security and canine patrols protecting the students from further dumbfuckery such as this.

I’m not going to rail on the professor for taking the precautionary measure of calling security to investigate this thing. I am going to rail on the dumb shit who decided to pull this prank off in a world where social media has degraded the overall intelligence of the human population to what can be charitably described as the lowest common denominator. Listen, don’t you fuckers realize that video games is the root of all violence and terrorist action in America? It’s on the mainstream news, so it must be true.

Morons.
