Attack Of The Clones… Every Bit As Bad As I Remember It

Twenty years ago, on this very day, the fifth Star Wars film and the second episode of the Star Wars Prequel trilogy, Star Wars: Episode II – Attack Of The Clones, was released in theatres worldwide. As the second chapter of the prequels, it continued the story of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and his young padawan Anakin Skywalker, who are charged with the mission of protecting the young Senator and former Queen Amidala from assassins, all the while trying to uncover the mystery of a clone army created in Kamino. The movie raked in about $650 million in the box office, but the reaction has been decided mixed.

Over the years, I have made no secret about considering Attack Of The Clones to be the absolute worst Star Wars movie ever made. I have held this belief since the day it premiered when I first saw it in theatres with my older brother and a bunch of his buddies, and even with the release of the recent films – which I tend to forget exist, coincidentally enough – it neatly lines that proverbial bottom of the Star Wars bottle. Now, it’s entirely possible that I may have been a bit harsh and maybe a fresh viewing through new eyes and on the eve of its twentieth year of existence, I may have gotten a new appreciation for this often misunderstood film.

So I pulled out the Blu-Ray disc that I had laying around, popped into my Blu-Ray player, resisted the urge to dive into the extras, and I watched Attack Of The Clones for the first time in years. And you know, I had the DVD release, I popped that into my DVD player, I kicked back and watch this film for the first time in years… and you know how some people would revisit something that they hadn’t touched in years because they had a low opinion of it and then they would go “Well, this isn’t as bad I remember it.”

Well, if the title isn’t much of a clue, then I give you my utmost assurance that no such thoughts came to mind after my viewing of Attack Of The Clones. It is, for all intents and purposes, every bit as bad as I remember it.

TMNT Cowabunga Collection – An Actual Thing From Konami In 2022

So, this is a thing, apparently…. and it’s supposedly due out in 2022 in both physical and digital formats. Someone ought to let Konami know that 2022 is the present year we live in.
Other than that, an excellent announcement of a package that, quite frankly, I never thought was ever going to be a thing. And it appears to be the whole classic TMNT package; both arcade titles, four NES games, four 16-bit titles, and the Game Boy trilogy with various Japanese counterparts and some quality of life enhancements.
Don’t scoff about “multiple versions” of the same game; the NES port of the arcade game (TMNT2) is a different beast from the arcade original, the SNES port of Turtles In Time has more stuff than the arcade version, and the three games to bare the name Tournament Fighters are completely unique to the consoles they were released onto. Suffice it to say, you’re gonna get some value out of this collection, even if the asking price is a little higher than past collections.
Still, I’m actually looking forward to this one a little more than that Shredder’s Revenge game that DotEmu is working on. I’ll definitely be picking this up and for those wondering, yes, I have reviews of various TMNT games that I’ll try and spotlight over the course of several days.

All Plans On Hold For The Moment…

So something has come up and unfortunately, it means I need to focus on that thing at the moment.
The PPV Musings will continue on Wednesday since most of them are scheduled to be published automatically and they were done months ago, but stuff like reviews and such will be put on hold until further notice. I’ll try and get the X8 up as soon as possible, but everything else is up in the air.
Thanks in advance for your understanding. Hope to get back to you soon…

The Winners And Losers Of 2021

Happy New Year, everyone.

Hey, what do you know? It’s the end of another largely miserable year… but if there is one bright spot, it’s that this year is not as bad as last year and for whatever it’s worth, 2022 looks to kick off in greater spirits. That probably means nothing considering that 2021 also started off hopeful and things fell off the rails, but much like WWE’s booking of Roman Reigns, THIS TIME FOR SURE…

So here’s the deal, everybody. It’s been no secret that posts on this blog has been slagging this past year. Most of it is video reviews and the occasional Dynamite musings. So in reviewing what’s been posted and referencing old material, it was difficult to gauge what stood out this year… but we do have a list so I managed it somehow.

Let’s get to it.

Why Should I Care About Brand Supremacy?

So, it’s November and we’re closing in on the annual WWE tradition that is Survivor Series.

One of the “Big Four” PPV events that also comprise Summerslam, Royal Rumble, and Wrestlemania, Survivor Series was the show where you had two teams of four or five teammates competing in elimination-style matches. The earliest editions of the event were nothing but these elimination matches and were such a staple of the event, even when they started varying up the card with other matches.

Once upon a time, these sorts of matches were used to pit two rival groups against each other or other special circumstances. In recent years, however, Survivor Series has had only one central theme; brand supremacy. This was the “ONE NIGHT” where superstars from RAW and Smackdown would wear either red RAW shirts or blue Smackdown shirts. And they would compete against one another to see which brand was superior. Never mind the fact that there have been numerous occasions outside of Survivor Series, where RAW and Smackdown talent would interact and compete in matches with each other; particularly during the weeks surrounding the Draft or Superstar Shakeup or whatever venacular they decide to go with that time.

For reasons that escape me, there is an allure in wondering which WWE show is superior and there absolutely needs to be a show based on this concept. Of course, there were other attempts at this. There was the short-lived Bragging Rights show, which built on this premise alone before it was decided to move it to Survivor Series, where it had remained to this day. And this is the thing that is supposed to sell PPVs or Network subscriptions or whatever the case may be.

So I have a honest question; does anybody really care about brand supremacy?

AEW Buy-In Show Featuring BRYAN DANIELSON vs. MINORU SUZUKI!

Sorry for the lack of vids, but here’s the buy in show from AEW featuring Danielson/Suzuki.
If you haven’t watched this yet, you’re a dumbass. But cure your dumbassery by watching this vid. And then cure your friends’ dumbassery by making them watch this vid.

DTM Rambles #23 – Irate Vee Nerd

The crossover supposedly thirteen years in the making that only a minute number of people would care about these days is finally happening. And my interest is surprisingly piqued.

For those wanting to check this out on Youtube (and no doubt read all the hilarious commentary that will follow), that’ll be up tomorrow… followed by the week’s worth of Super Mario reviews done right because all that stuff is done.

AEW Double Or Nothing 2020

So I didn’t watch the show live… but after hearing how much of a wonderful show this was, I ended up getting the replay about a week or so later and I’m kinda glad I did…? I guess…

So yes, this is AEW’s second Double Or Nothing PPV, originally to eminate from Las Vegas before Corona forced them to move to Daily’s Place in Jacksonville with some of the wrestlers playing the role of fans; pretty much the only place they’ve been doing Dynamite as of late. Highlighting the show are the crowning of a new TNT champion, a hard hitting Wotld title bout straight out of Combat Zone Wrestling (but tamer), and the Stadium Stampede.

I’m excited to revisit this again, so let’s do it.
