Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth To Hit Japan October 27th

According to Kotaku and obtained “crappy cell phone” pictures of a Japanese magazine, the game will boast new enemies, new traps, and… yes, STAIRS! That’s right… forget the return to old-school Castlevania – STAIRS make their grand return to a Castlevania game after a long, LONG period of absence… and no, the Dracula X PSP remake doesn’t count.

With the game getting an early Japanese release (before the rest of us), it begs the question of what goofy Japanese name it’s being referred to as.

You can check out the article here for further details, primarily the picture in question.

Thanksgiving Greetings And Stuff…

To the folks living in the US, you only get your turkey next month.

But to the folks on home Canadian soil, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend… I had a mildly enjoyable weekend, comprised of clean-up work around the house and a couple errands here and there. Most importantly, it was a purely, relaxing three-days, so I can’t really complain.

First Impressions: Tetris PSP

Bought the version of Tetris that was released last week as a downloadable PSP mini game and have had a week to play it. I’ll probably be posting a full review on GameFAQs or something, but basically this is your usual offering of Tetris. It has a nice, clean presentation, the gameplay is familiar to those who have played the game before (although the controls are somewhat slippery and sensitive), and there are a nice variety of game modes (that you must unlock first) to try out. The game also comes with built-in acheivements or “feats” as they call it.

All in all, it’s a fairly decent Tetris, although at ten bucks, it seem a little steep. If you really enjoy Tetris, this is a nice one to add to your collection, but if you’re perfectly happy with the Game Boy version, this isn’t going to offer you anything new.

WWE Hell In A Cell 2009

So, WWE has gone off the deep end with these stipulation-themed pay-per-views as of late. First it was Breaking Point, where the main events were all either submission matches or I Quit matches. And now WWE has decided to have a Hell In A Cell PPV, where you’re guaranteed multiple HIAC matches in one night. So rather than being this “last

Like the previous PPV, only the top matches are worthy of being held in the Cell, with the rest being the usual matches.

Someone drew a Turtles Forever Strip.

That’s funny…

Don’t remember or know where this originally came from. Found it on a Google Search somehow and found multiple copies, so I can’t give proper credit without knowing the original origin. Sorry.

Interesting if this actually does happen in the Turtles Forever movie, which is supposed to feature the 2003 cartoon TMNT, 1987 cartoon TMNT, and original TMNT depicted in the old Mirage comic books. Movie’s due out on DVD at the end of the month.

Separated At Birth?

You ever had one of those times where you notice one thing almost looks like another?

Case in point; Shellshock, the Traffic Light Turtle from a first season episode of Power Rangers. First time I saw him, he instantly reminded me of Tokka, the mutant snapping turtle who first appeared in the second Ninja Turtles movie.

It makes you wonder… and sad that both have lived short lives.

Tokka eventually de-mutated back to its old, lovable snappy self while Shellshock ate Power Sword.

PPV Predictions – WWE Hell In A Cell 2009

This is the first PPV Predictions on this (Blogger) blog, where I take a wrestling PPV and make some predictions. Even though this is a scripted form of entertainment, people still make bold bets and predictions as to how the show will progress. I’ve done this on and off on my other blog and decided to continue the tradition here. I wouldn’t go so far as to call myself an expert or “smart fan”, just someone who has followed this style for ten years. With that bit of expository bullcrap out of the way, we begin the tale in question.

So, WWE has gone off the deep end with these stipulation-themed pay-per-views as of late. First it was Breaking Point, where the main events were all either submission matches or I Quit matches. And now WWE has decided to have a Hell In A Cell PPV, where you’re guaranteed multiple HIAC matches in one night… and chances are all of them are going to not very good. Listen, I’m sorry to say, but a Hell In A Cell in this more family-friendly WWE product (if you want to call it such) is not much of a good idea. Unless there’s blood or even an insane stunt pulled off to really emphasis the dangers of the match, it’s just nothing more than a cage match featuring a bigger cage surrounding the ringside area. I mean, does anyone remember the final days of WCW when they had cage matches? Remember the cage they used. It was similar in design to Hell In A Cell, but it wasn’t called that. It was called cage matches. At this point, the Hell In A Cell should be considered a relic of a past era long gone and should be retired as such. But you know those wacky WWE bookers…

Like the previous PPV before it, only main event worthy matches take place in the Cell. The rest are your generic cookie-cutter matches with no stipulations imposed whatsoever. So click on the rollover link to check out some of my thoughts and predictions. UPDATED WITH WINNERS AND MY TALLY.

Montreal Motocross Thingy

Went to the Motocross show last night and had a generally good time… it was something that my mom wanted to go see as a family outing and for the most part, it was a genuinely fun show. I’ll admit that I’m really not much of a motocross fan (I don’t follow the sport, so I can’t be a fan if I don’t watch it), but all in all, it was a fun little event.
A couple weeks or so ago, my mother had asked if I wanted to attend the Motocross event that was being held at the Big O. She wanted this to be a family event since we didn’t get to go on any trips this year… you know, what with my health issues and other bullshit. So I’d say, “Yeah, sure. Why not?”
Bought the tickets online – a process that she insisted on even though I would have rather bought the tickets in person – and to my great surprise, were mailed over within a couple days. I’ll say this much – the admission office who handles this stuff does nice, prompt work.
So the show was last night and they had a few qualifying races, some titles were awarded, many bikes crashed on the various obstacles that weren’t dirt mountains, and a couple injuries happened. All in all, thirty bucks well spent just to see the freestyle bikers in action. Even from a faraway seat, those stunts are pretty awesome to see live and in person.
Not necessarily going to follow the sport now, but I might be inclined to catch the show next year when it comes around.

Here’s the show site. They don’t have the results of last night’s show as of this posting, but they might.

Roided Picard

2026 Notes
Originally threw this together as something that was going to be used in a gag video montage that would fuel the endless debate over the behaviors of TV Show Picard and Movie Picard. It was to be a “music video” of sorts using DVDA’s Now You’re A Man track, with Roided Picard showing up during the chorus bits. Alas, Youtube’s Content ID and stickler for music from actual musicians killed the idea dead… so this is what’s left of that particular endeavor. Maybe I might use it again down the road.

An Underwhelming Effort, Mr. Bores

I wrote this brief blurb on my other site, under DTM Blog Post #1189

This was my thoughts on Chris “Irate Gamer” Bores’ then-latest entry into his long-running (read: takes forever for him to put out) History Of Video Games series. Note the part at the end where I’d say that I’d ignore him to the foreseeable future and think about how long that stuck… not that long, I’m afraid.

No break, this time. It’s not that long of a piece anyway.

So the Irate Gamer, after months of delay due to hard drive failures and other excuses, has finally uploaded the second part of his “History of video Games” series… which is just a review of the Magnavox Odyssey… and it’s supposedly split into two parts. Now I’ve seen the episode and… yes, it seems like I’m falling asleep.

You know what? I try to give the guy a chance. I really do. Despite all the bad rap he gets, I figure I give him a chance and hope he somehow redeems himself. Sure, people call him a knock-off and a plagiarist… and sure, he gets a good chunk of his information wrong, but even after all that, I was willing to give him a chance in hopes that maybe, just maybe he’d produce a product that goes beyond the usual sloppy servings he had uploaded as of late.

Guess what? It hasn’t happened.

Maybe it’s just me… but isn’t the point of a “History Of…” to touch on important events in a timely manner? I’d figure it’d be the best thing to do and easy to mock up. So why am I getting reviews of Space War (not even the actual version, but a random Flash version) and Computer Space when they should just be significant footnotes in the story? Why am I getting a review of the Magnavox Odyssey when it’s supposed to be a historical retrospect? And why, for the love of God, are we getting TWO PARTS of this?! Just discuss the console a bit and move on! This is supposed to be a HISTORY RETROSPECT!

It should be noted that the Angry Video Game Nerd already did a review (2011 Update: more of a general overview than a review) of the Magnavox Odyssey and he only took ten minutes to review most of the necessary components outside of the light gun, which he demonstrated its use by shooting at the TV. Now there’s probably more to the Odyssey than that, but the Nerd’s review was advertised as that… a review. (2011 Update: again, more of an overview than a review… and I could have done without the stupid Nerd Terd or whatever it’s supposed to be called.)

Now, I’m not going to declare myself a hater or anything like that – but I am simply going to ignore the man for the foreseeable future. Until he can produce something that is actually worth my time, I’m not going to bother anymore. (2011 Update: said ignoring was ignored.)

Sorry, Chris. But you fail.

(2011 Update: To be fair, later installments did drop the “review” format and just go through various items and games quickly… the accuracy of the information is questionable, but this series is mostly harmless and if anything, has sometimes inspired me to look up some of the historical points online.)
