WCW Road Wild 1997

Once again, I’m revisiting a show that I already touched on just three years previously… but now I bring added thoughts and context, especially after having seen the prior month’s Bash At The Beach show as well as the 100th episode of Nitro that saw Lex Luger defeat Hollywood Hogan for the WCW World title.

To tell you the truth, there’s not a whole lot to this show that I could really add on a second viewing.

The Street Fighter 2026 Movie Cast… meh.

Source: https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-lists/street-fighter-cast-reboot-1235374639/50-cent-as-balrog-1235374707/

So far, your current cast listing for the upcoming Street Fighter movie.

You have actor Andrew Koji portraying Ryu and will presumably be the main character. There’s also Callina Liang being the third live actor to play Chun Li (following Ming-Na in the 1994 movie and Kristen Kreuk in the best forgotten Legend Of Chun Li flick), Jason Momoa will be playing Blanka (what, you couldn’t get him to play Ken instead of this Noah dude?), Orville Peck is cast as Vega, and Balrog will be played by 50 Cent, who I assume will be try to act like a boxer rather than “generic black tough guy” that was the case for Michael Duncan Clarke when he played Balrog in that Chun Li movie everyone wants to forget. They also cast their Dan, but I forget the guy’s name.

Oh, and playing the role of Akuma?

Your tribal chief, Roman Reigns.

I laughed. That gave me a good chuckle. On the bright side, though, if they can get Roman to do nothing but mean mugs and say nothing, that would probably be the best portrayal of Akuma in a live-action movie.

I can’t help but feel somewhat ambivalent over this one. On the one hand, it’ll probably be nice for Street Fighter to have a live-action movie that’s more closer to the lore of the games than the previous efforts were. On the other hand, just because something is accurate to the source mateial doesn’t automatically make it a good movie. There’s something to be said about the 1994 movie that deviates from what was established in the games (which wasn’t saying much; most of the filler was through supplementary material like mangas and things of that nature), but nonetheless provided an entertaining little flick. On the flip side, I watch something like the recent Mortal Kombat film, which is more true to whatever lore it’s currently following right now, but is a generally dull film as a result. Even Annihilation – a generally bad movie – had its fun moments… for all the wrong reasons, but sometimes, you’ve got to take what you can get, no matter how little it is.

So, as much as I’d like to have a film adaptation that’s the best of both worlds, I’d much rather have a fun and enjoyable movie that deviates from the norm than a deathly dull movie that’s a slave to following lore. Hopefully, this Street Fighter movie strikes that nice balance. It’s been on the cheesy side, it’s been on the dull side… let’s go for somewhere down the middle. Thanks.

There Should Be Only One…

So we’ve got a British guy who’s presumably assuming the role of a Scottish immortal, who was originally played by a Frenchman (Cavill) and now we’ve got another Brit (Butler) who’s going to presumably play a Egyptain-born Spaniard immortal, who was originally played by a Scotsman. It almost gets to be a bit funny when you realize that these are the same guys who played the Last Son Of Krypton and his father respectively in Man Of Steel.

No word on who is playing the Kurgan, but if I’d have to venture a guess… they’ll probably cast a petite woman or no-bi individual… someone who we’re supposed to buy as a major threat, but is played by someone who is about as much of a threat as a cream pie to the face. Unless she’s playing the sorcerer or something. I don’t know. I’m not sure I really care.

I’ll be honest; the idea of a Highlander remake does not appeal to me in the slightest. This is based on the fact that they tried to make a bunch of Highlander sequels in the past and they all sucked to varying degrees. I’m still sour over The Source and I have a feeling that this remake will turn out even WORSE than that pile of shit. I want to be wrong about this. I want to give this a fair shake… but nothing about this inspires me with much confidence.

I suppose I’ll reserve judgment until they eventually release a trailer for this thing… but really, folks? There really should have been only one.

No Review On Fourth Of July. I Refuse.

Normally, there’d be a review, but since it’s the fourth of July and we’re in a trade war with our neighbors down south, I’m civically and dutifully obligated to refuse to post content on this blog… so the above is all you’re getting today.

Stop making America shit and then we’ll talk.

Or wait until tomorrow, where it’ll be business as usual and I’ll go back to loving you all.

Until then, go fuck yourselves.

Later.

Just Give Me The News, You Donkey!

So I’m visiting this entertainment website whose name I shall not reveal, but they generally… occasionally well, okay, I mostly visit for the luls. But what doesn’t bring me the LULZ is that whenever they discuss comics, they will often copy and paste bits and pieces of a source article and then proceed to write a nine-hundred page editorial expressing their opinions on this thing. More often than not, it’s the same tired rhetoric about [insert film brand here], [insert comic company there], or anything involving the ol’ webhead.

Anyone remember the days when news articles mostly gave you the news and that’s it? If you wanted an opinion on something, you’d read an editorial or commentary piece. And these things would give you something to think about, but hopefully not give you something to parrot like a lemming. Now it’s like “Hey, so-so is doing this. What’s going on?” and then you click on the article to get about fifty words worth of news and the rest of the eight-hundred and fifty words is dedicated to why so-so sucks or is an insult to one’s intelligence. You know what’s insulting my intelligence? Trying to pass yourselves off as a news site when all you’re doing is copying and pasting other people’s words before tossing in your own half-baked opinions and rhetorics that I’m pretty sure was copied and pasted from whatever backlog of opinions you have on hand to reuse and regurgitate whenever you have the chance. Dreadful.

Just so that we’re clear on things, dtm666.com is not a news site. This is a blog where I post stuff of interest and then I talk about it. None of this stuff is ever passed for news (I’ll source you the original article, so you can read for yourself) and virtually everything is an opinion piece of some sort. If you’re going to an entertainment news site or something that claims to be that, you just want to read the news and not a five-thousand word opinion piece on something that should have taken less than 500 words tops to report.

If you want to write an opinion piece, write a fucking column. Otherwise, just report the news and fuck off, will you?

State Of The Blog – July 2025

Belated happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadians… and since I am indeed Canadian, I am legally and culturally obligated to inform my neighbours down south that they can go [REDACTED.] Except for you. You know who you are.

Anyway, here’s the slightly belated State Of The Blog for July.
