Tetris Added To Nintendo Switch Online

For those who need a friendly reminder, Nintendo Switch Online recently added the NES version of Tetris onto their NES gimmick. This is significant in that not only has this version not seen a re-release since 1989, but it also marks the first time that Japanese audiences would be exposed to this version of Tetris, which never saw the light of day on the Famicom back then. Considering the amount of Tetris games they were getting, I don’t think they’d be missing much, but still, it’s a treat.

In addition to NES Tetris, the Game Boy gimmick also added Tetris DX among their ranks. Tetris DX is the Game Boy Color upgrade with more play modes and slightly tweaked game mechanics that makes for a smoother controlling game. So if you’ve got an NSO subscription, you can sample both games to your heart’s content… as well as abuse rewind and save states for alleged expert plays.

Remember… Alexey wants you to “play Tetris, my friends.”

Not “Cheat at Tetris, you capitalist pigs.”

Please Wrap It Up… And Throw It In The Bin…

Tomorrow will see the annual Game Awards take place; the walking advertisement for non-game products with occasional game trailers you could watch online and a handful of award presentations with winning speeches from people who are told to please wrap it up so we can give Christopher Judge ample time to talk. No beef with the guy, but just because he played a character who said very little for over a decade on a popular sci-fi show doesn’t mean I want to hear him make up for lost time.

Then again, what do I care? I follow an annual tradition with the Game Awards that continues to this day… and that is not to watch it because I have better things to do with my time… like giving the dog a bath. In fact, I never bother with this thing unless other people I frequent are talking about… which is almost never because nobody outside the influencer circles gives a flying fib about the Game Awards.

So yes, this is me telling you that I’m not watching the Game Awards. You don’t really need to know this. I’m not enhancing your life by relaying this information to you. Nobody cares if I have any interest in this thing. I just felt like letting the world know because… that’s a thing we do nowadays and I don’t have anything more substantial to add to the proceedings… which probably describes the Game Awards in a nutshell.

Your “Homework” For This Afternoon – The Eurocom Ernie Hudson Interview From 2008

Source: https://www.eurogamer.net/ghostbusters-ernie-hudson-interview

Today’s scheduled review (and everything else this week for that matter) has been pushed back a day due to technical issues on my end. To keep you busy, here’s the Eurogamer interview with Ernie Hudson from 2008 talking about the (at the time) new Ghostbusters video game. The byline should give you a clue as to what our next game is going to be.

Hurricanes, Impacts, And Other Bits And Bobs

To anyone affected by the Hurricane Helene, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I wish I could offer more, but this is all I have. Other people has means of helping.

Naturally, there was no Impact show last night due to TNA cancelling tapings in the area; instead, they aired a Best Of Bound For Glory show. I have it on DVR; I might give it a watch as an aside, but not expecting much.

Apparently, WWE’s Bad Blood PPV is this weekend, featuring CM Punk and Drew McIntyre going at it in a Cell of some kind. Also, Cody and Roman will team up against Solo and one of the Fatu boys. If I’ve got absolutely nothing better to do, I might give this a watch, but don’t expect a musings of any kind unless I’ve got nothing better to do… that sounds more convoluted than it should be.

AEW and WBD signed a new five year deal. Rampage is no longer a thing and PPVs will now be on MAX for discounted prices to MAX subscribers. Meanwhile, there’s a Wrestledream show in a couple weeks featuring Danielson and Mox going at it. Not watching it live, but if a certain someone decides to show up, the replay might be worth pursuing.

And of course, there’s the Bound For Glory show at the end of the month. There might be a surprise or two on the short stretch of PPV Musings in the last couple months of 2024, but nothing out of the ordinary. We’ll see.

In non-wrestling related news, I did a head count on my game collection listing and apparently, I’m about forty games away from hitting the big 2,000. Never did I think that I would hit that many games over a decade ago when I hit 1,000 and I figured… “Yeah, this is enough.” I want to say that once I hit 2,000, that’ll be enough… but now I know better. It’s like the old saying, “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.”

Also, the dog is sleeping. She rarely sleeps. It’s amazing.

Speaking of which… I’m going to bed.

New video later.

Bye.

Playstation 5 Pro: I Don’t Need One Nor Do I Want One

I’m going across Engadget’s gaming section and I notice the above headline, which I’d imagine is a hype article for Sony’s upcoming marginal upgrade to the Playstation 5 that constitutes a “Pro” label and a price hike. The article itself does specify that those who are content with their current PS5 console don’t need a Pro, but for those who want more… well, your mileage may vary on that count, but I haven’t been sold on a PS5 Pro just yet.

Point being that I don’t need a PS5 Pro. I don’t even have a PS4. There’s nothing on there that has me going “this is a must have right now” rather than “let’s wait ten more years before I can buy one at a swap meet for fifty bucks.” Hell, I’ve got TWO PS3s on hand – the slim model that I bought a few years back and the OG model with PS1 and PS2 backwards compatibility – and neither has seen much in terms of playtime.

I’m not saying no one should buy this thing. If the PS5 Pro’s offerings interests you and you have money to spare, then by all means, go for it. But at that money, you can buy a decent PC and do much more with it. Not saying that as a PC Master Race thing – I just more value for my money, especially if it’s a lot of money being spent on one thing.

Anyway, tomorrow’s a Gimmick Table out of nowhere. Wish me luck.

CGR In Regression

Remember earlier this year when Classic Game Room made its return with another season of CGR 2085? That went on for about five episodes before Mark decided that the whole thing wasn’t worth it and pivoted towards a CGR podcast… and then that fell off the wayside? Did you catch the new CGR shows? If not, would you like to watch them again?

Well, tough shit… you can’t. Because CGR has made those videos private… on Youtube, at least.

For those not in the know, Classic Game Room turns 25 this year. CGR 2085’s second season was supposed to be a celebration of that milestone, but sadly, the numbers weren’t there and creator Mark Bussler didn’t think it was worth continuing. Fine, I get it. He wanted numbers to justify the cost and he didn’t get them. But to basically pull the new stuff offline (or make them private) to prevent further views? Isn’t that a bit extreme?

Well, only if you watch stuff on Youtube…

There’s always going to be those salty few who complain about someone not producing enough content. Those people don’t matter unless they’re paying for a product you’re selling. From all indications, nobody is buying anything that Mark is selling; they’re watching freebies on Youtube and complaining about not having enough freebies. Hey, dumbass. You’ve got more than enough vintage CGR videos to fall back if you really need your fix. They come in a variety of flavors and who knows? You might enjoy the older stuff more than the more recent stuff, which has been somewhat polarizing.

But that newer stuff… you can only find that on ClassicGameRoom.com.

Seems as though things have not been so swimming on Youtube for ol’ Mark, who decided to move all his stuff back to his own website and host all the videos from there (via what I presume is Vimeo). So while there’s no more new CGR stuff on your popular streaming platform of choice, you can go to the creator’s own website and watch some of this new stuff along with some of the older stuff. Now before anyone asks… YES, they tried this sort of thing before and it flamed out. But that was a much larger operation. This feels a bit more contained and is at least supported by other ventures that are doing a much better job of earning Mark a steady income.

Yes, it would be nice if this stuff were still being posted on Youtube, but at least, you can still watch the stuff elsewhere. I’ll take what I can get and be done with it, thanks.
