One Week… One Bloody Week…

And what happens while I take a week off from uploading shit?

– Billy Corgan, TNA president and hopeful acquirer of said company, sues Dixie Carter and the company he’s employed with because they owe him money. Goddamn, kid.

– Paige suffers another WWE Wellness Policy violation over prescription drugs they say are “illegal” and now sources on her side claim that a second opinion doctor says she needs neck surgery. WWE doctors believe otherwise; look at all the wonders our Z-Paks have done for us over the years.

– This year’s Survivor Series PPV will comprise three traditional Survivor Series style matches (almost like the earlier editions of the PPV were just that) and headlined by the “long-awaited” rematch between Brock Lesnar and Bill Goldberg, which is being booked for the sole purpose of trying to sell more copies of the video game… because apparently Suplex City isn’t enough of a stupid idea to try and sell more video games.

– The rumored Women In Hell In A Cell match has been confirmed. Not only that, but the match between Seth Rollins and Champion Of The Universe Kevin Owens will also be a Cell match. WOW! THREE HELL IN A CELL MATCHES ON ONE SHOW! SMELL THE BUYRATE! Brace yourselves for mediocrity.

– They announced a Justice League/Mighty Morphin crossover comic… because I guess we really needed the stench of Zack Snyder in my MMPR comic books… oh wait, they’re talking about the comic version of JL, not the film… sorry, my bad.

– Another Rogue One trailer… Maybe you should’ve released this first before TFA if you wanted to get on everyone’s good nostalgic side or something.

Well… that’s something.

So Youtube videos will resume this week with a pick-up video and then straight reviews for the next few weeks. Nothing grandiose for this wave of reviews… I’m saving those for later.

First Look At The VR Troopers Reboot!

From Entertainment Weakly… er, I mean, Weekly comes your first look at the new VR Troopers reboot film that nobody knew was filming and thus was a total surprise. They’re not bad looking, but I’m somewhat confused by the decision to expand the Trooper team from three members to five. Also, I don’t get the reason why they modeled the Troopers’ colors off that other Ameri-toku-esque thing that’s more popular and stuff, but this picture surely has me excited for that VR Troopers movie.

Now if only Lionsgate can get around to showing the suits for the upcoming Power Rangers film, that would make things even sweeter!

Teh New Rita… Not Bad…

Swiped from some Tumblr somewhere, but no doubt swiped from some official source somewhere else. Here’s your new Rita Repulsa (as played by Elizabeth Banks) from the upcoming Power Rangers reboot movie thing that’s due next year.

On the one hand, I’m sort of glad they’re not sticking with trying to recreate the old look of the character, which would’ve been a bit goofy for something that’s supposed to be a little more mature and a little more expensive (for lack of a better term) than the original show. And in all honesty, she ain’t that bad looking; more alien-ish than just a Japanese woman in a hokey outfit and I particularly like the color choice here… I’m guessing she’ll be the Green Ranger in this flick?

(Seriously, though, that wouldn’t be a bad idea and it’s something that was teased in past fanfiction brainstorms years ago, but that’s another story.)

On the other hand, if they’re being this drastic in redesigning Rita, it does make me wonder how much of an overhaul the Rangers are going to get. But hey, so far, I’m liking what I see.

Random Thoughts On… “MMPR Fan Film”

A sudden burst of curiosity this morning prompted to check out the Facebook page for that “MMPR In Name Only” Fan Film thing that caused a huge ruckus a year or so back. No real rhyme or reason; I just wanted to see if they had finally, at long last, released their first episode that has been hyped and hooplahed since the dawn of time.

And much to my surprise* and awe*, the page was updated with a couple test shots… Their first episode, that they’ve been promising since forever, has yet to see the light of day.

I don’t know about you… but methinks the folks who donated money to this thing should probably press further into the matter because this looks fishy. I mean, look, fellas. When I made the crack about Lionsgate putting out their own trilogy of MMPR films by the time your first episode came out in the year 2024, I WAS SPEAKING METAPHORICALLY!

This is why I’m generally weary of crowdfunding efforts.

*Not really, but work with me here.

MMPR Movie Bios Leaves Me Depressed…

Snipped this from someone’s Tumblr somewhere, who apparently snipped this from some site citing Collider as a source, so the legitimacy of this information is somewhat questionable… but if this is a real deal… yeah, this is really depressing.

Is there any reason why we absolutely need to give these characters drab, disturbing backstories? I can understand, maybe, one or two to keep things interesting, but ALL OF THEM? Is there any reason why we can’t (for once) have a movie featuring superpowered teens have a bit of levity to it? These character bios feels like every other worthless teen-angst wankfest that are bereft of anything resembling charm or creativity, almost as if they looked to shitty “fan films” that have gone down paths that in no way fit the material you’re trying to make a movie out of.

Look, the new Fantastic Four movie tried to re-imagine everything from the original comic and IT SUCKED BADLY. Critics blasted it, moviegoers are ignoring it like the plague… why repeat the same mistake with this movie? Are we really looking forward to the day when the movie comes out, people watch it, and then will go, “Yeah, I liked the first movie better.”

This depresses me greatly.

And, just to get it out of the way, I know the original show’s characters were relatively paper-thin in personalities. Yes, I’d want something a little more developed than what the show offered. But this doesn’t feel “more developed” or anything. It feels like a bunch of character traits concocted from a randomizer and tossed together without rhyme or reason. It feels… meh.

Well…

Random Thoughts On… Season Redos

If there was any one season of Power Rangers you wish you could redo, what would it be?

I suppose the easy answer would be to redo the entirety of Megaforce/Super Megaforce due to how awful the whole things is, but in honesty, the one season I would like to have seen redone is Power Rangers In Space. Mind you, the season itself is pretty solid and was perhaps the beginning of the somewhat deeper storytelling that the franchise would adopt over the course of its existence, but In Space spent more time on Earth than it did in space and that’s probably the one thing that bothered me more than anything.

So in redoing In Space, first couple episodes play out more or less the same; the former Turbo Rangers stumble across the Megaship, they met Andros, they team up and become Space Rangers, they stop by Earth for supplies, and by the end of the third episode, they’re on their merry way seeking out new worlds and new civilizations or something to that extent. From there, they just bounce from world to world in search of clues to Zordon’s whereabouts, all the while doing some world building in terms of showcasing these worlds and giving them back story. For the kids, it’ll be looking at strange alien worlds and their inhabitants, while the older folks get some exposition for their nerd cards. Hell, it could even be an opportunity to revisit classic villains and characters.

You could keep some of the major plotpoints (Andros searching for his sister, the Ecliptor/Darkonda rivalry, Zhane), but retool them to fit the new narrative. And as far as Earth is concerned, that planet should be seen as sparingly as possible. Maybe for “major” events or something to that extent.

Anyway, it’s an idea.
