Nintendo Shuts Down Zelda Fanfilm Asking For Money… Why Are You Surprised?

Source: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2025/02/nintendo-shuts-down-live-action-zelda-fan-film-lost-in-hyrule

So stop me if you’ve heard this one before… but a few friends get together and decide that they want to make a Zelda fan film. Okay, cool… we’ll see if Nintendo is cool with that. But then they decide, “Hey, we need money. Why don’t we start a kickstarter?” Um… yeah, okay. Good luck with that, son. I give it about two weeks before Nintendo shuts you down.

Sure enough, two weeks later… Nintendo laid down the hammer and those fans can no longer make their Zelda fan film.

Forgive me for coming across as a prude here and part of me feel sorry for these folks who had their hearts in making this thing. Hopefully, they can pivot towards something else and pursue that instead.

But how stupid do you have to be to announce that you’re making a fan film based on a property owned by a company who is known to be quite protective of its intellectual property, for better or worse, and then to ask people to SEND YOU MONEY to help make this film? As soon as I heard that they were making this thing and then started a Kickstarter, I gave it a couple weeks before it got the axe and sure enough…

I remember a time ages ago when Star Trek fan films were a dime a dozen, almost getting to the point where the actual actors were even taking part in these. And then something happened involving one particular fan film punching above its weight class (I don’t recall the name) and Paramount/CBS (or whoever owned the property at the time) laid down the hammer and that golden age of fan film came to a halt.

Look, I’ve got nothing against fan films. I’ve seen a few fan films, I’ve enjoyed a few fan films. There’s nothing wrong with a bunch of kids getting together, making a silly movie pretending they’re their favorite characters from that thing or whatever, and having a bunch of fun in the process. We’ve seen some quality stuff out there and not so quality stuff. But there comes a point in making your fan works where you reach a certain line that you probably shouldn’t cross if you don’t want to risk the ire of the people who own the IP. Asking people to send you money to make a movie based on a property that you don’t own the rights to is probably not a smart idea and I’m not just saying that because it’s Nintendo.

You wanna make a film? Come up with something original. You wanna make a fan film. Do it out of pocket and on your own free time… and don’t show it to anybody or sell it or put it on Youtube or anything like that. That way, nobody will sue you unless they go over to your house and raid your tape library or something like that.

Hold on, what was I talking about, again?

Miro Gone From AEW

Source: https://www.f4wonline.com/news/aew/report-miro-released-from-aew/

Where the fuck is Miro? Who knows… but now we know where he isn’t.

How long before he crawls back to WWE, hoping for a fresh new run, and then realize he’s a small fish in a gigantic ocean?

Or maybe he takes a chance and goes to TNA.

Or maybe he goes back to his video games.

The world may know eventually… but hey, we can put this stupid meme to rest, I guess.

I Finally Saw Tetris

After what seems like ages, I finally resolved this whole Apple TV business for the expressed purpose of watching one movie and one movie alone. It’s the movie that’s been teased on every video I’ve done of every interpretation of the game that this film is based on to the point of it becoming a running gag.

So after all this time, what did I think of Tetris: The Movie: The Game Game game?

The ‘Verse Is Dead. Bury It. No Mercy.

There was a Superman TV spot. People were complaining about some guy’s face looking too much like CG. And then they go, “James Guns sucks, bro! Let’s bring back the Snyderverse! They gave us Justice League. Surely, they’ll drop everything to have Zack Snyder come back and continue feeding us our table scraps! Restore the Snyderverse, I say. HASH TAG RESTORE THE SNYDERVERSE.

Yeah… no, thanks. I’m good.

They had their chance. It didn’t pan out. Now it’s someone else’s turn to play in the toybox. Zack Snyder’s doing fine with his pseudo-Star Wars rip-off stuff or whatever you call that Rebel Moon stuff. The DC Universe stuff will be business as usual. I’m actually looking forward to a Superman movie rather than rolling my eyes in contempt. Besides, if restoring the Snyderverse means losing this…

Then I want nothing to do with that shit, man.

The SnyderVerse is dead.

Bury it.

And yes, it did bleed.

The Guzzling Goose Turd That Is AEW Grand Slam Australia

Source: https://www.sescoops.com/news/aew/aew-grand-slam-australia-scam-fan-backlash/

Someone at SEScoops.com – apparently feeling that today is a slow news day in the world of professional wrestling – decided to venture into the Reddit world and scour some opinions about whether or not AEW’s Grand Slam event in Australia is a SCAM.

A scam, you say? That’s serious business… or something…

A Word On V UK: Visitation

Source: https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/v-uk-visitation-3180?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=VUK01

Worth a mention is this Big Finish audio drama released last month. Essentially an audio remake of the original V miniseries from 1983, except the whole cast is comprised of Brits and hey, at least this one has the blessing of creator Kenneth Johnson, who even provided some new material to the program.

For those unfamiliar, V was a 1983 television miniseries in which a group of aliens come to Earth with promises of a better life, but all is not what it seems and it isn’t long before the visitors’ true goals are eventually revealed. It was a superb television event with a smart plot, some superb performances, and a look into a world that, now more than ever, almost mirrors that of our own. So the timing of this thing couldn’t have come out at a much better time.

As someone who watched all the V series as a kid – and yes, that includes the follow-up Final Battle and subsequent short-lived TV series; neither of which is acknowledged in this series – I thought this was a pretty good remake of V. Stayed true to the original story while updating it somewhat to modern standards and sensibilities. Mind you, I wasn’t entirely sold on an all-Brit cast, but everyone played their roles wonderfully and there were enough changes here and there that this feels somewhat refreshed while also still familiar.

I’m sure there are those who wished that we had gotten a continuation of the old show with the original cast and honestly, if that ever happens, I’m all for it… but this new take on V is also pretty good and I’m looking forward to the next series when it comes out in August. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into the old V show.

No New Videos This Week

Hey, folks. This is to let you know that there are no new videos this week.

Sadly, I’ve had a case of what’s been called the “food poisoning” and have been a bit nauseous, to say the least. I promise you it has nothing to do with those chocolate bars I ate for Sunday’s video; those went down fine save for the five dollars plus tax that I spent on them that could have went to coffee and a donut instead.

Sorry about the hiccup. Assuming I’m feeling up to it, I’ll see about tossing something up for Friday, but otherwise business as usual continues next week. In the meantime, please enjoy the random blog stuff that’ll pop up this week and hopefully fill the void.

McSon-In-Law In WWE HOF

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Might as well get it out of the way now.

There’s a bunch of jokes to be made about the guy spearheading the Hall Of Fame putting himself in the Hall Of Fame, sleeping his way to the top, and all that, but honestly, when you look at his resume and everything he’s done – both positive and negative – is there any reason why he shouldn’t be in there? Sure, the pseudo-induction as part of DX was nice, but the man is more than leading an influential faction. Hell, what he’s doing now behind the scenes is actually more vital to the development of WWE than his in-ring career ever was… and that’s saying something when you’ve had an impressive in-ring career.

Whatever the case may be… we’re in the mood to celebrate the greatness that is Paul Levesque. Might as well give him an HOF nod and get that out of the way. The man has more than earned his flowers.

Royal Ramble post will be up this Wednesday.

No, I Did Not Watch Section 31

It’s been a week since the release of the Section 31 streaming movie starring Academy Award winning actress Michelle Yeoh, reprising her tole as former Terran emperor Georgiou as she joins a top-secret suicide squad of Section 31 to take care of some business. It’s new Star Trek… so why isn’t uncle Dave talking about the new Star Trek thing?

Because I didn’t watch it. And I don’t plan on watching it.

In case you folks haven’t been paying attention or simply are unaware, previous trailers and preview material of this thing left me uninspired over this product. It looks bad, cheap, and second-rate. I’m not going to go into whether this is “actual Star Trek” or not because that doesn’t really matter. Something that looks bad looks bad regardless of whether or not it fits into what you define as “actual Star Trek.” And this Section 31 movie looked BAD. Even so, I would have at least given it a chance had word of mouth provided a glimmer of hope that maybe – just maybe – this is not as bad as everything looks to be. Maybe this could actually turn out to be a pretty entertaining movie.

Well, it’s been a week… and all the reviews and receptions that I’ve seen of this thing has been largely negative. Some have even compared this to the recent Borderlands movie – something featuring award-winning big name actors phoning in a performance on a script written by hack amateurs. Let me tell you folks something; anything that has it described to me as “Star Trek as conceived by Randy Pitchford” is enough for me to go “Nah, I’m good.”

I don’t care if it’s got the Star Trek branding or not. I’m under no moral obligation nor do I have any civil fandom duty or whatever to watch this film. I’m not going to waste time watching something that I know I’m not going to like. The whole concept of “hate watching” that seems to be a thing on internet culture – watching something you know you’re going to hate for the expressed purpose of hating something and expressing it online – is just utterly stupid. I’ve probably fell into that trap once at most and I’ve since regretted it – the actual watching part, not the words that resulted from that viewing. Any way you slice it, I refuse to fall into that trap again. Hence, my not watching Section 31.

Besides, that would require a subscription to Paramount Plus… and that’s one more streaming subscription that I do not require at the moment, so I can easily pass on that.

Now, is that a hard ban like some other films that I’ve sworn off? Of course not. There might come a time when, if I’ve got nothing better to do and curiosity has the better of me, I might actually give it a fair shake. That’s going to be a good while, however. Right now, I feel like I’d be going in with expectations that it’s going to be an outright awful waste of time that I’m going to regret wasting and I don’t want to do that. So, yeah, if it turns out to be vaguely entertaining schlock, great. That’s not the feeling I’m getting now from this thing. That’s not the feeling I want to go into a movie. I want to find some enjoyment out of it. Even if it’s bad and I end up mocking it, that’ll at least entertain me and that’ll be enough to make me like it just a tad.

That time is not now for Section 31. It simply doesn’t appeal to me… besides, despite the bad reviews, it’s actually been doing great in terms of streaming numbers, so clearly it doesn’t need another voice dogpiling on it.

In the meantime, there’s plenty of other things for me to bitch about that I’m not going to go into wanting to hate, but end up being more disappointed than most… what’s going on over at AEW as of late?
