COMIC REVIEW – Power Rangers Zeo #1 (Image Comics)

Image Comics got their hands on the Power Rangers license and only managed this; their only Zeo comic that was going to be the first chapter of a much longer story. And then… things fell apart and we didn’t get new Power Rangers comics until the Saban Powerhouse things the following year. It’s a shame, because out of all the Rangers comics up to this point, this was probably the best of the bunch.

It does the best job of giving us a primer on our main characters without going into ten pages of pointless exposition a piece, it gives us a predicament for our heroes to overcome, and then it tosses in our A-plot of the Machine Empire ravaging Master Vile’s domain because Zedd kept the Power Coin energies and now the Rangers have to claim that power back. All the while giving Billy a plot point about the faintest possibility of his powers being restored… even though he voluntarily stepped down because he wouldn’t look good in a skirt.

The real tragedy is that this was a solid first chapter of what would’ve been a compelling little story if Image played their cards right. The plotting was good, the characters are somewhat true to form, the overall artwork is quality stuff – even if Billy has his old glasses that he stopped wearing mid-Season 2 – and it didn’t feel like the usual throwaway licensed drivel. Hell, it doesn’t even look like the roughshod crap that usually came out of Image at the time. The fact that I’ve got this much to say about this one issue says volumes about how good it is.

Maybe someday, a deal can be worked out so that the Bierbaums will be able to continue this where they left… but given the state of comics afterwards – both in terms of Power Rangers and in general – my hopes aren’t high in this regard.

The OTHER Overly Long And Completely Unnecessary AVGN 100 Post

Hello, friends… that’s how people usually open these things, right?

Some time ago, I posted my words for what was going to be a running video commentary of AVGN 100, the 100th episode of Angry Video Game Nerd web series covering the Robotic Operating Buddy peripheral for NES. I will let link to that piece of business and let you read it for yourselves, but to make a long story short, I didn’t like it. Therefore, it sucked.

Well, you’d think I’d have enough to say about that piece of business, but sure enough, that is not the case. Hence today’s post of word wall. I honestly wish I could tell you what compelled me to write more words on the matter, but truth be told, I just felt like it. Not the smartest or shrewdest reasoning, but it’s my blog, nobody is reading this thing anyway, and so why not vent for future generations?

Just a word of warning; if you are a fan of the individual I am about to talk about and can’t stand negativity of any kind, kindly see yourself click the Back button on your browser because I am going to be particularly brutal. Especially as it pertains to an individual who I have followed for six years but chances are that will not be the case anymore. I don’t hate the person; I wish him all the best, but I hate this latest product that he has put out… primarily because it’s not good.

The Overly Long AVGN 100 Post Based On An Aborted VIdeo Commentary

There has been much hype and speculation as to what the 100th episode of the Angry Video Game Nerd is going to be about. Most people thought it would be E.T. Others thought it would be ROB. Personally, I was hoping he would do something totally unexpected and come up with something special. When the episode came out, I sat down and watched it. I hated it. I hated it to a point where I had prepared a script for a future video log. Cooler heads prevailed and so the script was posted on a blog somewhere.

This is my summary of the review after another few viewings… and I still don’t like this episode. I think it’s a pretty pisspoor review and one of the most abysmally produced episodes. If James Rolfe were to shit into a bag and plaster it on the Internet, you’d get this monstrosity.

A little word of warning before we begin; the following overview/commentary is vulgar at times and considerably scathing. My intent is not to cause offence to anyone within the Cinemassacre camp or anyone who might actually like the episode, but to give a very blunt review and commentary regarding my viewing and observations of this 100th episode. This is not a review of the overall AVGN franchise and the direction it has gone, nor is it an attempt to instigate any kind of stupid flame war or hate thread; this is a review of the 100th AVGN and that alone. I may go off on tangent at times, but only as it relates to the 100th episode alone.

Hey, if you like the episode and thought it was the greatest thing ever, then more power to you. It means that absolutely nothing I say here will change your outlook on the product whatsoever and therefore… I honestly don’t know why you’re still reading this. Nothing I say is going to change your mind and it should be only fair to warn you that nothing you say will make me change mine.

And if you feel you absolutely MUST comment, I only ask that you keep it clean and intelligible.

Are we cool on that? Then let’s get on with it.

Citation And Warning Needed

“Given all that he has done to his body and all the drugs, alcohol, and who knows what else he’s pumped into his body, it honestly amazes me that every day goes by that Scott Hall isn’t dead yet. To see him in this state despite all attempts from others to help get him cleaned up is damn near depressing. As much as I like to hope for the best, it looks pretty unlikely he’ll pull out of this in one piece and it’s only a matter of time before we add another name to the wrestling obituary.”

Jay Lethal GONE From TNA

TNA Wrestling has come to terms on the release of Jay Lethal. We wish him the best in his future endeavors… or something.

Jay Lethal, known for his spot-on impersonation of Randy “Macho Man” Savage under the Black Machismo gimmick as well as doing a spot-on Ric Flair impersonation, has been a TNA guy since 2005 and he’s a damn entertaining guy. His presence will be (and has been) sorely missed during TNA telecasts.

Funny that they would release a guy like Lethal who can work good matches… certainly, there are those far more deserving of getting the boot than Lethal. Whatever…

Good luck, Jay, and best of luck to you.

Even I Wouldn't Wish This On John Cena

Some guy posted the following on Twitter, which was re-twitted by John Cena himself.

“I hope [John Cena] is dead and in the ground so I can not hate wrestling. Plane crash or car is fine with me. Or murder.

Wow… just wow.

And no, smartass. I’m not the guy who twitted that. I don’t have Twitter to begin with.

Look, I’m not the biggest John Cena fan in the world in regards to his character and his wrestling ability… and I don’t particularly care for his films, either (I kinda liked 12 Rounds, though)… but I’d never want to wish the guy dead. Why would I? What the fuck would that accomplish?

I hear Cena’s a great guy in real life. He makes the Make-A-Wish kids happy. And when he isn’t playing a caricature on TV, he seems like a pretty cool guy to hang with.

Seriously? You want a guy like that dead?

Now I hear the guy who posted that twit is getting a backlash. Thus is the power of CeNation, folks. Don’t fuck with them.

Hogan would sign dead guys to work the next TNA PPV if he could

The old twit and sportsman of the year Hulk Hogan decided to shoot some Twits on Edge’s Retirement, proving how so out of touch he is with reality;

“if any of the guys like me,Flair,Hardy,Andre,AA,Blanchard, orndoff,Henning would have listened to doctors we would have quit15yrsago. but I don’t know Edges working environment because they are a media company not a wrestling company. HH”

Which only proves that Edge is smarter than the bunch of you. He may love the business, but has the sense to know when it’s time to step aside and focus on his health. Not many people are smart enough to take that into consideration.

“wrestlers work hurt! What about Foley! I bet EDGE still wants to keep wrestling,he’s one of the boys big time!!! HH”

So I guess TNA is offering Edge a contract now?

By the way, did you guys sign Andre and Curt Hennig to TNA contracts? I’m sure they can work the next PPV despite the fact that they’re… oh, what’s the word I’m looking for? Oh, that’s right… DEAD.
Quite frankly, the wrestling obituary doesn’t need to add another name. It’s bad enough Scott Hall isn’t far off.

Edge… Thanks For The Memories… You Shall Be Missed…

Hulk Hogan… Piece Of Shit 4 Life.

Brother.
