27 Years Ago… Hulkamania Came To A Close (The First Time)

The Main Event. February 5th, 1988.

The single most-watched wrestling match in North American history, as witnessed by 33 million people. No other wrestling program before or even since has come close to matching that number. And what was the big draw that drew that massive audience?

Well, it was the long-awaited rematch between Hulk Hogan and Andre The Giant for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship. The sequel to the main event of Wrestlemania III, the event that arguably put the WWF on the map. 33 million people got to watch these two titans go at it once more. 33 million people got to see history made, when Andre The Giant pinned Hulk Hogan to win his first (and only) World championship.

Of course, the win was not without controversy. Andre scored the pin, but the referee – supposedly Dave Hebner – had fast-counted Hogan. Hogan had cried foul – like he usually did when things didn’t go his way – but this time with just cause. He had been screwed out of the title and to make matters worse, the man who had “beaten” him for the title would not even be champion for long, as he immediately declared his intention to surrender the “World World Tag-Team Championship” (his words, not mine) to the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase, who was Andre’s manager at the time.

Eventually, the real Dave Hebner showed up and confronted the evil twin. Hogan stared at both bickering Hebners before beating the shit out of both of them. A measure of revenge, sure, but it did little to change the fact that he was no longer the World Wrestling Federation champion. His four year reign as champion had come to a close.

Of course, it would be ruled that the title change was non-valid and thus a tournament would be established at Wrestlemania IV to crown a new undisputed champion… but that’s another story for another time.

Glad to hear that this has been settled… mind you, it’s always sad to hear things like this come about, but at least it’s something that’s been resolved.

We now return you to your regular ramble.

JDF’s Tone-Deaf Comments on Rick Medina Manslaughter Case

He strikes again…

A twit from Jason Douchebag Frank regarding the Rick Medina thing (see earlier post);

Come on man you have to straighten up this is bad for the Power Ranger franchise. JDF

Someone has died… for real… not fantasy, not tv… someone has lost their life… and all you can think about is the franchise… what a classless act from a grade-a douchbag.

And then, in a pitiful attempt at damage control, you post the following on your Facebook;

ATTN: To all the people who are saying ” Bad for the Brand” has NOTHING TO DO WITH MONEY!!! I said bad for the brand meaning KIDS….. One ranger Falls we all do.. Ive worked to hard to be a ranger and be a Positive role model!! Its NOT bout me it about being a super Hero.. Im sorry Self defense?? If I had to protect myself it would of been a fist NOT a sword.. Unless the guy had a Gun or a weapon.. I can’t say what happen but I will say this… GROW up and get off my page… Just not gonna sit back and waste my time with Keyboard warriors!!!
-JDF-

If this is not about you, then why are you MAKING IT ABOUT YOU, YOU WORTHLESS SACK OF SHIT? There are other Ranger actors who have chimed in – either taking either a neutral stance or showing their support – but never making it about them? Because it isn’t about THEM. It isn’t about the BRAND. And it sure as hell isn’t about YOU.

Grow up? You’re telling the mature folks out there to grow up? You? You, who like to issue worthless challenges to people who wouldn’t give two shits about your overblown and overexaggerated Z-grade cult status? You, who hold grudges with a former castmate who has publicly said he had no beef with you? You, who once had a role in a MTV program about college kids having sex in their dorm room… and that was before you got brought back for Dino Thunder. You want to talk about being a role model? A role model that tells kids that martial arts is not about looking for fights and then you go ahead and do just that?

If that’s your idea of a role model, then Skylar Deleon was a former Power Ranger.

Unlike the mindless braindead followers that shower you with endless praise on your equally worthless Facebook page and elsewhere, I’m not drinking the JDF Kool-Aid. I can separate the man from the character he used to play; something you seem to have great difficulty in doing. Your attitudes and your words bring shame to the franchise you claim to represent. You are a cancer to that brand. I believed this last year… maybe a little further than that… but after this, whatever sliver of respect that I might have had for what you’ve done in the franchise – and believe me, that much is a stretch – you’ve pretty much killed that.

You are not a role model, Mr. Frank. You, sir, are a douchebag and an outright fraud.

Pathetic.

PALMDALE, Calif. (KABC) — Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies have arrested Ricardo Medina, Jr., who is best known for his role as the red Power Ranger, in connection with fatally stabbing his roommate with a sword in their Green Valley home. Medina, 36, was booked for murder at Palmdale Sheriff’s Station. He was being held in lieu of $1 million.

“He is a great friend and a great client. It’s something I can’t even conceive. I don’t see that in him. He was a very helpful guy and great with his dog. It’s such a shock,” said Gar Lester, Medina’s former agent who has known the actor for 12 years.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said Medina called 911 at about 3:50 p.m. to report the stabbing in his home in the 38000 block of San Francisquito Canyon Road.

Sheriff’s deputies said Medina got into an argument that turned into a physical fight with his roommate Joshua Sutter, 36. Sutter allegedly followed Medina and his girlfriend into their room by forcing the door open. Medina then stabbed Sutter in the abdomen with a sword kept next to the bedroom door. Sutter was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Medina played the Red Lion Wild Force Ranger in 2002, according to IMDB.

One of the stars of “Power Rangers Samurai” has been arrested for stabbing his roommate to death with a sword … TMZ has learned.

Ricardo Medina Jr. was busted Saturday afternoon by L.A. County Sheriff’s deputies in Palmdale, CA … after a fight broke out between himself and the roommate … Joshua Sutter.

According to law enforcement … Medina retreated to his bedroom with his girlfriend — but Sutter forced his way into the bedroom … and that’s when Medina allegedly stabbed him once in the abdomen with the sword.

Medina called 911 and waited for for cops to arrive. He was arrested and booked for murder. Sutter was transported to a hospital … where he was pronounced dead.

Medina got his break in Hollywood as the Red Ranger on “Power Rangers Wild Force” back in 2002. He went on to play Dekker on “Power Rangers Samurai.”

He’s still in jail, and bail has been set at one million dollars.

Wow… not quite sure what to think of this. My thoughts and prayers go out to all involved.

Royal Fumble Is So Bad I Bitch About It On Twitter… WTF Indeed.

And yes, that’s my actual Twitter thing. Don’t expect much out of it, though. I only use it for medicinal purposes… just like Romulan Ale.

WWE Raw Tapings Cancelled Due To Storm

Source: http://rajah.com/node/45458

Tonight’s WWE RAW taping from the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut has been cancelled due to Winter Storm Juno. Some folks noticed the WWE crew packing up the trucks and as such, no live show to take place. The Smackdown tapings for tomorrow might also be affected. One has to wonder what WWE will air in its place… maybe they can re-air the Royal Fumble on free TV, but edited so that fans react positively to their chosen champion… worth a shot, I guess.
Still, good move on WWE’s part for their proactive thinking. Setting aside the recent controversy over their Royal Fumble showing, they avoided a potential disaster of a RAW taping going horribly wrong due to a possible power outage or other possible setback as a result of this storm. I suppose, if nothing else, it gives the hapless Twitterers something to add to their #CancelWWENetwork Twits that continues to be a major trend.

Remember the days when the most efficient means of display fan discontent was littering the ring with trash? Those were the days.

The Backlash to #RoyalFumble Getting Mainstream Attention

Well, WWE got their mainstream attention… and it only took pissing off their paying customers to get it.
