AEW Creates Another Belt That It Doesn’t Need

Source: https://www.f4wonline.com/news/aew/aew-creating-national-title-full-gear-gauntlet-match/

The good news is that it’s a men’s championship and thus won’t be won by Mercedes Mone, who is probably winning some championship in Bangladesh this weekend or something to add to her eleventy-billion belts that she’s currently holding. I swear; that woman must have some real dirt on the business if everyone is giving her a belt. And then people want her to come back to WWE. For what? So she can go back to feuding with Nia Jax or put over whatever failed NIL project they’ve got going on in NXT?

But yeah, AEW now has a National title that they’ll probably abandon in a year or two when it’s promptly forgotten about. Reigning NWA National Champion and former Spirit Squad member Mike Mondo probably should have let this lie rather than comment on it, but I guess he needed people to know that he was still alive or something, which… hey, always good to know. Hope he’s doing well these days.

Never A Strange Thing ‘Round These Parts

Netflix series hit Stranger Things is getting its fifth and final season later this year and my feelings on the matter are… meh.

I’ve never watched the series. I know some details, I’ve seen some clips, but never actually sat down to watch the show even during those periods when I had an active Netflix subscription. Whether it was its much simpler early seasons or the more fantastic later ones, it was a show that simply didn’t appeal to me in any way, shape, or form. As such, I never really followed the show. It’s just something that people reference every so often. And so when I hear that Stranger Things is coming to an end, my only reaction is “Is that thing still on?”

Here’s the thing about Stranger Things; yeah, it’s part of a genre of sci-fi horror that doesn’t necessarily appeal to me personally and that’s not a knock on it. It takes quite a bit for something to appeal to me personally enough to sit down and consume it unless it’s a legacy property (and even that’s a tall order), but it’s also a thing set during a time that I grew up in. It has references to things – movies, games, books, whatever – that I will recognize and will go “Why am I watching this thing referencing other things I could be watching right now?”

Anyway, hopefully the fans who stuck with the show will get a final chapter worthy of their fandom and the show’s run… or maybe they’ll make another spin-0ff or something to keep the gravy train going and then I can go “Is THAT thing still on?”

Either way, I’ll be watching actual 80s stuff from the 80s… on media from the 9os and 2000s… oh wait.

On All Hallow’s Eve… I Still Haven’t Watched Section 31.

It is October 31st of the year 2025… and it’s time for the semi-monthly declaration that I have NOT watched the Section 31 streaming video motion picture film starring Academy Award Winner Michelle Yeoh… because a buddy of mine who occasionally offers gag gifts for my birthday – which would have been the perfect time to strike with a disc copy of said movie – opted instead to give me a DVD set of the original TMNT cartoon.

If he had sent Section 31, you would probably be reading my thoughts on said film. But he didn’t. So you’re not. And so the tradition continues… such as it is.

In the meantime, however, if the current Trek television product isn’t getting you excited, might I suggest you redirect your forward sensors towards IDW’s comic output? They recently put out the first issue of their new series, Star Trek: The Last Starship, and it’s actually quite the hard sell for its overall concept that has me genuinely excited for new Trek. Also worthy of mention is their Red Shirts miniseries, which has been tremendous fun.

Maybe some day, I’ll give these further shine – and maybe talk up more of that Khan show, which I need to catch up on – but it goes to show that you don’t necessarily need Star Trek on screen to find good quality stories. As long as there’s enough quality material to dive into, I am more than content in putting off… what were we talking about again?

For the record, I have yet to open that TMNT DVD set… I’m almost afraid to revisit it.

The Wolf Fled And I Had To Catch It…

Yeah, so a last minute medical appointment (nothing serious – just an intravenous injection of fluid after work that lasted a couple hours) has prevented me from uploading today’s scheduled video. Good news is that it’ll be up tomorrow (maybe later than usual) and then Friday is the one people actually care about.

Long story short, the treatment that was supposed to be treating my bowels didn’t exactly get the job done, so I got an emergency infusion of stuff. For what it’s worth, I feel fine. I still have bouts of pain, but my stools have been fairly solid and trips to the john have been less frequent compared to earlier in the year. It’s just something in the internals that the medical professionals didn’t think was progressing as far as it should.

Joy.

Sorry for the morbid details, but this is serious business that is treated seriously and morbid details are what you’re getting. When I get this video crap out of the way, we’ll find some funny way of digesting this information… or you could just watch whatever AVGN thing is out right now.

He still makes those, doesn’t he?

Try Again In Twenty Years

Source: https://sg.news.yahoo.com/tron-ares-ran-off-grid-140312176.html

So in 1982, Disney put out a movie called TRON. Apparently, people liked it and it made some money, but not enough to warrant a follow-up. I only vaguely remember the movie myself – the special effects are something to admire for its day, but that’s about all it had going for it. Most of my association with TRON was through that one Deadly Discs game on Atari… and a couple others along the way.

Then in 2010 – almost THREE DECADES later – Disney puts out TRON: Legacy, a sequel to the original film that I actually liked better than the first movie. Like the first movie, people seemed to like this one and it made some money… and we even got a short-lived animated series out of it, but not enough to make a new movie out of the gate.

And so here we are again with TRON Ares; a drastic departure from what came before with Jared Leto in the lead and virtually nothing to connect to the previous films beyond a few special effects, a few familiar names, and a token Jeff Bridges cameo. Reaction to this film was a little more mixed and – say it with me – it’s not making enough money to justify an immediate follow-up any time soon.

But then again, this is the new Disney. They’ll milk properties until they’re dry and then continue to beat that dead horse even long after the rot and decay has set in. I wouldn’t be surprised if this TRON is what gets a follow-up in a year or two, but otherwise… I guess we’ll try this shit again in 2048 or something, I don’t know.

Mercedes Now Has 12 Belts And Lots Of Dirt Apparently

Source: https://www.f4wonline.com/news/aew/mercedes-mone-wins-12th-consecutive-championship-in-canada/

So apparently, Mercedes Mone now has another belt to add to her collection of belts. She is literally Dozen Belt Mone. Can anyone explain to me what dirt she has on the wrestling business that these promotions keep booking her to win belts? And what happens when she eventually has to drop all these things… IF she drops these thing?

Meanwhile, there are WWE fans that are crying about how they wish Sasha Banks would “come home” where she belongs. I dare those fans to try – genuinely TRY – to come up with any sort of incentive for her to come back and play second fiddle to whatever NXT project they’ve got going on or possibly having her feud with Nia Jax. Honestly, if I was Mercedes, I would never give it a first thought considering the run I’m having right now. She’s doing exactly what she needs to raise her stock. A WWE run at this point would be beneath her.

Meanwhile, whatever happened to Ron Killings? You know, the guy that WWE released and people made such a big stink over it that they eventually hired him back. What’s he been up to lately? What amazing run has he been on that he couldn’t do out in the open where the possibilities were endless? When was the last time he was on TV in any meaningful fashion? That guy could have done some great things outside of the WWE box and now he’s off TV. I hope you morons are happy.

Hey, whatever Mercedes is doing right now is working for her and I can’t imagine her being unhappy with the run she’s been on. Trust me. She’s in no hurry whatsoever to “come home” and job to Tiffy Time any time soon nor should she. She’s doing just fine.

Ten Years Since Letterman Retired

I almost regret missing the date because it passed during my trouble recovery and mental anguish, but 2025 marks ten years since late night legend David Letterman aired his final Late Show, bringing a historic career spanning three decades plus to a close.

I missed out on the early Late Night stuff and first watching Letterman about a couple years into his CBS run, though thanks to the wonders of Youtube clips both official and not, I’ve been able to catch up on some of this stuff. But for the longest time, I had always considered myself a Letterman guy. Besides the fact that we both share the same first name, the guy had a brand of humor and gruff personality that appealed to me. He would react to these sorts of ridiculous things in a way that had him question his life choices. Even when he had toned down his rougher patches, he still had an edge to him that hit that nice balance. Leno had jokes and a chin. Conan had zaniness. Dave had a sardonic wit.

Most of all, there was a gravity to Dave in that his words had some weight and meaning to them. Someone who had an air of ambivalence and outright disdain for his surroundings, often reacting in a sarcastic manner, would eventually being the longest tenured performer of his field. His desire to entertain for the masses rather than play cheerleader to whatever political affiliations he had meant that when he talked about serious issues, you were more inclined to take him seriously… before he eventually dropped a wry comment or observation that brought the whole house down.

Just as there will never be another Johnny Carson, there will never be another David Letterman… though you can probably have a bunch of Jay Lenos, Jimmy Fallons, Jimmy Kimmels, Lonnie Donegans, Craig Killborns, Seth Meyers. Those guys are practically interchangeable.

Dave is not.

I miss Dave.

Later.

The Eternal Wait For The Next Intellivision Console Finally Ends…

Glory be the heavens! Never thought I’d see the day that Intellivision would come through and finally release their new video game console… except it’s just like their old video game console. Where’s the white exterior? Where’re the updated graphics? Where are the new games like Finnegan Fox or Dynablaster? Where’s CORNHOLE?

Wait… what’s that? This isn’t Amicovision? This is ATARI’s version of an Intellivision console? The one with 45 built-in games and wireless controllers? Wait… what do you mean Atari OWNS Intellivision now? What about Mattel? Who owns them?

Kota Ibushi Out For A Year… Again

Source: https://www.f4wonline.com/news/aew/kota-ibushi-update-aew-collision-injury/

So former New Japan star and occasional AEW participant Kota Ibushi, who had recently returned from years of injuries and recovery, suffered yet another horrific injury that might put him out for another year. A femur fracture, it’s been said.

I almost feel bad for the guy. He had a good run in New Japan and then at some point, he started racking up these injuries and other issues that kept him on the shelf more than in the ring. I’m not sure if maybe it’s a sign that he should hang it up and do something else in the business, but regardless of where he goes from here, I wish him nothing but a speedy recovery and then we’ll see where he goes from there.

Side note: today’s video offering will be up later than usual. Thanksgiving and all… later.
