Dick Grayson Is Now Ric Grayson…

Because I guess the Bat-Dick was such a big deal…

But see, if they’re going to get rid of all the dicks, they have to kill off Superman.

After all, Superman is kind of a dick.

Oh well, I don’t see this lasting long and we’ll probably get another shitty reboot in a couple years.

Random Thoughts On… Not Shazam.

So I finally got to watch the teaser trailer for the upcoming Captain Marvel movie and my initial reaction was meh. Wasn’t excited, wasn’t depressed, it was just a thing that I watched and moved on with my life. I gave it another quick watch just a short time ago and my tune really hasn’t changed all that. This will probably be straight-to-Netflix for me if it gets to that point and that’s been the case with a lot of the Marvel output aside from Infinity War, which we did get to see in theaters. It also doesn’t help that the film is featuring the Carol Danvers character; a character that I was never too keen on in either her Ms. Marvel or Captain Marvel phase. If anything, the best use of Carol Danvers was to be the sacrificial lamb for Rogue, a much more interesting character and member of the X-People.

So, apparently, there’s a big stink being made by the fact that Carol Danvers (played by Brie Larson) doesn’t smile enough in the trailer. More than likely, this stink was brought up on Twitter because Twitter is populated by stupid people. Unfortunately, there’s enough stupid people in the world to turn this into a big deal for some reason. I watch the trailer and yes, for the majority of the trailer, Danvers doesn’t show much emotion, if any. There’s a couple hints of a slight grin during the airfield scene or a pained expression when she’s shooting laser beams, but for the most part, it’s just this stone-faced expression that, upon second viewing, made me wonder if this was an actual human actress in the role or another of those digitally CG mock-ups without the facial expressions programmed in. I mean, at this point, it wouldn’t surprise me considering the efforts they went into de-aging SLJ and that other guy named Phil.

I don’t know; maybe the people who made this teaser figured we needed more impressions of Lt. Commander Data and save the emotional bits for the actual movie.

And that’s just the thing; it’s a teaser. It’s just a brief snippet of a much larger playfield. You have these scenes which take place, but no context to go with it. Why is Captain Marvel punching some old lady on a bus? Unless you’re familiar with the comics, you wouldn’t have a clue and assume that Captain Marvel is an asshole. There’s a scene where Carol’s on this alien world and there’s no sense of wonder or astonishment or any sort of subtle emotion… but on the flip side, what makes you think that this was her first time? For all we know, she may have been on that world for who knows how long. Maybe it’s something that’s taken from the end of the movie. After all, we need to explain why this person has been non existent during the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Canon.

Look… I don’t know if this is going to be a good movie or not. Nobody can assume such a thing from a teaser trailer. Right now, the teaser trailer is a thing that happened and not much more than that. I’m neither excited nor enraged; I’m just like… whatever. I’ll just wait for the next trailer to come along and provide a little more light on what this Captain Marvel movie is all about. Maybe the trailer will show more emotion than this trailer did. Or maybe they’ll just add more stone-faced Brie and then Twitter can complain about it… and I stop caring entirely because Twitter ruins everything.

And that’s all I’ve got to say about that, really.

P.S. Maybe in five to ten years time, if they decide to reboot Captain Marvel, they can go with the Monica Rambeau version instead. Not only is she female, but also a female of color; two checks off the diversity checklist. Also, a much better character than Ms. Cannon Fodder For Rogue.

Batman: The Damned Features Bat-Weiner

So yeah… Batman’s dong is in the print version that’s probably going to get censored in digitized versions as well as all future printings going forward. Get these first printings while they’re hot, folks. I know I’ve got them. Though to be fair, it is a “mature” product, so I don’t get the controversy… but I guess neither did Peter Parker.

Cavill No Longer Super… man

Source: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/henry-cavill-as-superman-warner-bros-dc-universe-shake-up-1142306

So Henry Cavill is no longer doing Superman movies… and apparently Ben Affleck might not be doing Batman amid his rehabbing issues… but Gal Gadot is still doing Wonder Woman, right? So, I guess we’re all good.

That sucks. Say what you will about the movies he’s been in, but I always thought Cavill had the potential to be a good Superman; the recent Justice League showed glimmers of hope on that point and I would’ve like to have seen him actually play Superman in a Superman movie… but alas, it is not to be.

As for Affleck… well, I hope all goes well with him in regards to his recent issues.

Boom Studios Has Fucked Up The MMPR Archives

Longtime fans of Power Rangers will recall a series of comics produced by Marvel in the series heyday that focused on the Ninja Ranger portion of MMPR Season 3. One issue in particular features a story called Dark Thunder, where Lord Zedd seemingly creates Dark Rangers from old powers and had them pilot old Thunderzords to confront the Ninjazords, only for said Rangers to go away and never to be seen again. It is a popular story among the fandom, despite being the usual poorly-crafted drivel that comprised the majority of that Marvel run.

As of late, there have been reports that MMPR Archive is missing a page from this story, specifically the concluding page of this Dark Thunder storyline that ultimately went nowhere, but its omission is noticeable. At first, I thought this was just an issue with the printed versions, but turns out even the digital version on Comixology is missing this vital page that concludes the story.
Yeah, so this is a pretty major fuck-up. And I am quite frankly amazed that Boom hasn’t taken the time to address or even fix the issue. Too bad, because aside from that one major omission (for the sake of completion more than anything,) this is a nice comprehensive collection of the early comics from Hamilton and Marvel. But I would be extremely weary of purchasing a physical book until this particular snafu has been fixed.

Bought The MMPR Archives Volume 1 Collection

For those who don’t know, Boom Studios just released the first volume of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Archives comic collection, which is supposed to collect all the previously published comics from ages ago. Volume 1 collects all the Hamilton Comics series (6 Volume 1 issues, 4 Volume 2 issues, and 3 issues of a retelling of the TV show that was unfinished due to the license running out) as well as most of the Marvel Comics output (both their MMPR comic and their secondary Ninja Rangers run.)

For what it’s worth, it’s a pretty neat compilation with the artwork mostly unaltered (covers were changed to remove publisher logos and such) and the quality of the prints being clean for the most part. I bought this digitally for roughly 20 bucks, but I wouldn’t mind coming across an actual physical book if I can find one.

Anyway, having a collection on hand is spurred the idea of trying to look at some of these comics individually and doing quick little write-ups on each issue. It’s certainly worth thinking about.

Sting To Write Forward To Hellblazer: 30th Anniversary Collection

Legendary musician and former frontman of The Police STING will be writing the forward to the upcoming Hellblazer: 30th Anniversary Collection from DC Comics. Sting served as the inspiration for the visual look of the John Constantine character, so it seems somewhat appropriate that the man himself should have a hand in the celebration.

How Does Transformers Fight A Long Road Trip In Space?

Source: https://io9.gizmodo.com/a-new-idw-comic-is-mashing-up-star-trek-and-transformer-1826960426

IDW announced a four-issue mini-series starting in September that will featuring a crossover between the Star Trek animated series from the 70s with the original 80s Transformers, which is precisely the sort of ridiculous crossover concept you’ve come to expect from IDW, considering their crossovers with Doctor Who and Planet Of The Apes.

I’m sure this’ll be good fun. IDW has been consistently been putting out some really good Trek comics these past few years and those other crossovers were fun reads if nothing else.
