First Impressions – THE KING OF FIGHTERS 2006 (PS2)

A full-review might be forth coming, but I just wanted to get my thoughts up quickly.

KOF2006 isn’t a traditional team-based fighting game in the series, but rather the follow-up to the Maximum Impact game (the 3D version of KOF) that was released prior. I never played the first one, but thought to give this one a try.

For the most part, the game plays fairly good, the difficulty is pretty balanced (except for the bosses, but they’re somewhat beatable unlike most of SNK’s bosses), there’s a plethora of fighters to use and unlock, and then there are the Time Attacks, Survivals, and Mission Modes that you can partake in. While the graphics aren’t the greatest, they are still fairly good and the animation is quick. The sound in this game is also pretty decent too.

This is one of those games where you get more than your money’s worth. You have a lot of options and gameplay modes to tinker around with that it’d take a few weeks to go through it all (or at least half the time if you’re really good). KOF2006 might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for fans of the series and fighting games in general, this is a worthy addition to your collection. Recommended.

RAW (June 4th, 2007) – I Like My Pointless Raw

Didn’t catch the One Night Stand show… from most peoples’ reaction and the results of that show, it’s probably a good thing, but let’s forget that and talk some RAW.

Yesterday was an utterly pointless show. I mean, it wasn’t a really “bad” show or anything. It was just pointless. I don’t get the idea behind it.  Let’s see some highlights:

– Cade and Murdoch beat the Hardys with a swerve tactic to win the tag belts. It wasn’t a great match by any stretch, but why wasn’t this on a PPV when it could have meant more?

– Next week is going to be a draft. That show is going to be three hours long, so you know it must be something that it’ll really shake things up… not really. The last time we had a draft; Kurt Angle left for TNA while RVD was busted for smoking pot.

– Randy Orton continues his killing spree of giving “legends” concussions. Well… it’s a step up from his RESTHOLD thing he likes to do often.

That’s about it. You noticed I didn’t mention John Worthless. Well, I did say highlights, didn’t I?

Later.

Getting Up To Speed

So I got back my PC (now with a gig of RAM, thanks guys) last Monday. Took longer than I would have cared for, but at least it runs a little smoother now.

I’m probably going to do something particular uncharacteristic of me and unusual of this blog; I have a couple thoughts on some political landscapes. Unfortunately, this is mostly happenings in Quebec and whatnot. Yeah, I usually avoid the political talk when I can, but this is kinda irking me (and to be fair, it’s not really political – just that the subjects mostly link to the politics).

So it seems that the latest Quebec budget has caused some dissention among the National Assembly members. The Liberal minority government and the Parti Quebecois are currently negotiating amendments to the budget (the Action Democratique – the main opposing party – has already voted against the budget) in order to make it passable. If the budget is fully rejected, another election could be looming in July. That means more taxpayers money thrown into the Wasteful Spending department. It seems that the Libbies should just swallow their pride and make the damn changes needed to let the budget pass. It’s bad enough I have to go to an election once this year; I don’t feel like contributing to the bullshit voting again for quite some time, much less three-four months later.

Recent reports are revealed illegal money spent by Option Canada during the 1995 referendum. Apparently, one official has already been fired as a result. It’s really unfortunate that people need to resort to illegal spending to get their way. It’s a sad state of affairs, but on the bright side, the right side won… hey, that rhymes.

Boris, a tiger that had spent the majority of his life in a Quebec zoo, was moved to an Albertan zoo and is mostly bored unless someone speaks French. Not sure what this has to do with politics, but the idea of a francophone tiger is funny.

That’s about it. I’m going to end this “big return” now before I get too carried away. Nothing big.

I probably have a few “announcements” and “declarations” to make this weekend. But that’s this weekend. For now… I’m off to the showers and then to work.

Later.

RAW (May 21st, 2007) – RAW-tastic? Yeah, right.

Seems to me that I’m doing these RAW bites on a regular basis, so I’ve decided to make it a regular topic called RAW Bytes. I’ll hunt down the older entries and add them to the list. Anyway, let’s get to the show.

Why am I watching a music video on a wrestling show? Outside of showing the Most Worthless Women On Television, what contribution is made to the show in general? What is the point of this stupid music video anyway? Why should I give a shit about some rapper, even if he is a recognizable name?

I mean, what’s with this obsession of getting rappers into wrestling? Most often, they contribute nothing but low ratings and forgettable music. Also, their videos suck balls most of the time. So what?

Outside of that, it’s not a truly offensive show from what I’ve seen. The Cena/Khali segment is fairly dull but too short to be truly hideous. The Lashley matches are short and sweet too. It’s a fairly average show with no outstandingly good stuff, but it’s miles better than last week’s pile of crap RAW show.

Good enough for me.

Classic Bite Commentary #64 – May 21st, 2007

Welcome to the Bite. Planned on this being a quick one, but I’ve apparently got lots to say (expanded blog posts and original content, along with some announcements that are made here first). Enough of the introductory crap, let’s get on with some talk.

COMIC REVIEW – Marvel Zombies (2006)

I guess you can consider this a quick comic review, since I haven’t a format to put up a full review. In fact, it’s the first time in years that I’m reviewing a comic book in any form… much less five.

So the crossover series Marvel Zombies vs. Army Of Darkness is coming out soon and I thought I take the time to talk about the original five-part miniseries that was put out some time last year. For those who don’t know, Marvel Zombies is an alternate-universe miniseries in which all the superheroes are turned into flesh-eating zombies. The concept is pretty stupid, but it somehow works. The whole thing is set up so that the heroes are aware of their zombie status, but really can’t do anything about it. It’s certainly different from most zombie stories, where the zombies are depicted as mindless one-track idiots.

Marvel Zombie’s art is gruesome, as it should be. There’s a bit more gore in this story than most Marvel tales of this type and it’s almost appropriate considering what we’re dealing with. Some of the imagery is almost unsettling to a point, but it isn’t anything offensive if you know what you’re getting into. It’s not like anybody’s “little buddy” and spider-balls are hanging out in public.

All in all, this is a fairly entertaining miniseries that’s good for a laugh or two. If at all possible, track this one down (either the issues or a trade paperback if one’s available)

Recommended.

DTM BLOG Classics #29 – London RAW and Other Fine Tales

One of the better shows put out, this week’s RAW saw an hour-long bout between ol’ Shawn and “Useless” John Cena. I’ve enjoyed the match much more than their Mania encounter and was surprised that it would last as long as it did. See, this is the match they should have had at Mania with the right guy winning. The only thing that would have made the win sweeter if it was a title bout and if it featured someone other than John Useless, but you can’t have everything.

All in all, the show, while filled with useless time-wasters not named Cena, was better because of that one single match. Maybe if useless lugs like Orton were sent home more often, we’d have quality products such as this.

Some wrestling site posted a news post about Steve Austin admitting he doesn’t know who Paul London and Brian Kendrick are in an interview. Apparently, a major wrestler not knowing who the (former) tag champs are is news. So let’s recap this ground-breaking interview in traditional style (note Austin responses in Italics)

INTERVIEWER: So, Austin. What do you think of London and Kendrick?

AUSTIN: What?

INTERVIEWER: London and Kendrick.

AUSTIN: What?

INTERVIEWER: The tag-team champs in WWE.

AUSTIN: What?

INTERVIEWER: Never mind.

AUSTIN: What?

Finally, in a bit of unrelated news, long popular message board Rangerboard had recently placed a ban on porn fanfics. Meanwhile, Mystech Rangers (a mindfuck of a “story” if you want to call it that) is still on the boards. So it’s okay for poorly-written incoherent stories with tentacle sex to be posted, but straight up porn stories are inappropriate? Someone explain the logic behind that for me.

No wonder I never go to that place.

Classic Bite Commentary #63 – April 26th, 2007

Welcome to the Bite. Hope every one had a great Easter/Passover holiday a few weeks ago. Mine was fairly good albeit uneventful, but boy was that goat meat great or what? Okay, let’s get on with it. Not much to say this time around; just some pimping, some linking, and some updates on future web projects. Some extended-edition blog reposts might pop up here and there.
