UWF Beach Brawl (June 1991)

You want to talk about old, obscure shit… witness Beach Brawl from 1991, courtesy of the Universal Wrestling Federation… from Herb Abrams.

Oh yes… we are going into the deep end here. The outlaw promotion founded by Herb Abrams and assuming the name once used by Bill Watts’ Mid-South promotion, promising to bring wrestling back to the way it used to be… which probably meant a lot of half empty houses, lots of bad wrestling, poor production, and a rather healthy drug-fueled lifestyle. And so much like Bill Watts’ UWF, Herb Abrams’ UWF also eventually went bye-bye… which probably would’ve happened anyway considering Abrams’ passing in 1996.

But yes, the UWF had a PPV event that somebody would eventually – decades later – upload to Youtube and somewhere along the way, I had managed to record the event on DVD-R through my old set-up… long story. And then I did this write-up… promptly forgot about it… and just got back to it now… so I figured…”Why not give this show another shot?”

Then I found out why I never gave it another shot.

TNA No Surrender 2006

Yeah, so I watched another TNA PPV. Actually had a couple of these on old DVD-Rs, which is funny because I don’t seem to recall actually watching the show at the time. I did see the big announcement that was hyped up, but I’ll save that for the end… assuming the custom banner doesn’t spoil it when I get around to doing it.

(Oops, too late.)

In any event, I’ve got this and a couple PPVs on DVD-R that I gave a watch and wrote musings on… maybe I’ll get around to doing those TNA DVDs that I got stashed away somewhere.

Mega Man Maker Tab Added To Top Menu, More Content To Come

For those who want “easier” navigation of the old Mega Man Maker stuff, I’ve added the appropriate tab on the top menu that will bring up four distinct posts. Videos for my own levels and Wily Challenge runs as well as other miscellaneous videos and posts can be easily accessed here.

In regards to “other” updates regarding MMM, now that the seemingly endless run of minor updates on bug fixes and such have ended, it looks like I’ll be running some eventual new challenge videos soon enough. I’ve also got a couple new levels in the works, but I’ve been sitting on those for a bit before I decide to give them a proper go. Once that’s done and I’m happy, you’ll get an update on when those will be up.
That’s all for now. Later.

AEW Double Or Nothing 2021

Yeah, I know… it’s a little late, but other stuff came up, as they usually do on Sundays. Besides, you can afford one less DON musings among many others on Monday, so whatever…

For what it’s worth, I saw the show the night after but avoided spoilers for the most part… but yeah, the first AEW PPV with a full crowd and following a go-home show that is the first of several to be pre-empted to the Friday night death slot for the month of June due to playoffs and all, which is going to suck tremendously… but that’s another story for another time.

Right now, let’s just enjoy this AEW show, which has a bunch of big matches, fun matches, and whatever the hell Cody Rhodes is doing.

The Maple Leaf Pandemic Of Choking The Big One

I don’t normally touch on hockey around these parts, but I can’t help but comment on this.

So this past week, Game 6 of the Stanley Cup playoff series between les Canadiens de Montreal and the Toronto Maple Leafs took place in front of paying fans at the Bell Centre and the Habs celebrated the return of fans to the arena by winning an overtime game to push the series to Game 7. Not to be outdone, Toronto gave away free tickets to fully-vacced health care workers to attend said game at whatever arena they play in these days; I don’t keep track.

There was an article around these parts in the local paper where the writer was chastising Montreal for charging fans to attend their Game 6 while Toronto did the noble and moral thing to give free tickets to first responders as thanks for all they have done during these trying times. And at first, I thought that there was some semblance of merit, especially since the Habs won in Game 6 and it would’ve been a nice feelgood moment for the crowd… and given how much shit those workers had to deal with, it would’ve been a nice gesture. So, clearly, Toronto has the moral high ground.

Unfortunately, those health care workers in Toronto saw the Leafs eat a 3-1 loss to le Bleu, Blanc, et Rouge in the deciding final game. As such, Montreal advances to the next round in the playoffs while Toronto wallows in misery through another post season of failure.

Honestly, I don’t know what’s worse. Montreal charging fans for a fun, winning game or Toronto giving first responders a free look at how a hockey club lives up to its legacy of choking. Who came out happier out of that exchange?

Final verdict? Nobody wins the morality war… but the Habs move up. We’ll see how far that goes.

No Need For Theatres

iWith things starting to open up, there eventually comes a point where movie theaters will allow full capacity and there’s going to be the ever-present question of whether anyone would show up. And I’m not going to speak for everyone, because everyone has a different answer. Some would more than welcome the opportunity, others could care less, and some wouldn’t consider the idea as long as it meant supporting the cesspole that is Hollywood nowadays.

As far as I’m concerned, I have no interest in going back to theatres any time soon.

I hadn’t had the urge to do so long before this pandemic hit, there was nothing that warranted it, and quite frankly, with the past year showing the true colors of those in the movie business and how they really feel about the common moviegoer, I really don’t want to support that kind of attitude and if I’m going to be looked down upon and treated like a worthless commodity by the people who make this stuff, then why should I support them in a monetary fashion?

I would claim that if a movie came out that peaked my interest, I’d wait until it hits Netflix… but I let my Netflix subscription expire last month and didn’t miss it one bit. Anything that I would’ve wanted to check out, I already have on DVD, Blu-Ray, or even VHS, which still works. So, all I got left is the WWE Network and the Crave service that comes with Bell… and I can get by with those along just fine.

This isn’t a hard stance, by the way. Chances are I’ll jump back on the Netflix train down the line if there’s some retro content worth checking out and if my brother fancies a film worth the big screen experience, I might bite… but for now, I am more than content to stick with other means of getting my cinematic fix… from 20-30 years ago when movies didn’t suck.
