Hello there.
Well, here we are. The first formal State Of The Blog of the year 2025… hope the year’s been treating you well so far. I wish I could say the same, but… anyway, we’ve got some updates on hand. Not the least of which is a potential idea for a video review month that hopefully goes off without a hitch, but will probably be hitched sooner or later. I don’t want to weigh you folks down with my health and personal woes because I try to keep that out of this thing that’s supposed to be fun and lighthearted, but the fact that these things have hindered progress so far in terms of new content has confirmed that… yeah, we’re in for another bumpy start.
Regardless, I’m slightly more optimistic this time around. I won’t do anything silly like lay out schedules of things that may or may not be followed, but I will use this space to bring up some behind the scene changes and additions that are long overdue.
First off, the top menu has seen a bit of an overhaul in a couple ways. In particular, two new tabs have been added: Reviews and Video Stuff. Reviews basically moves both video and written reviews under one roof, so they’re much easier to find. Speaking of which, the 2013, 2015, and 2025 video game review pages have been added, with all links in those pages fully working. Video stuff is where you’ll find the other video series (Sunday Gimmick Table, House Shows, Etc.) and as more video stuff is re-introduced, more of them will be added.
Speaking of which, outside of this month’s potential sporadic schedule and any other sudden changes due to prevailing circumstances, video reviews will continue to be uploaded on a Monday-Wednesday-Friday circulation. At the moment, it’s mostly a lot of odds and ends that’s been sitting around for a while and this “Retro Month” of sorts – begging the question of how one can have a “Retro Month” on a blog that covers nothing but ancient shit in the first place – is a chance to clear off some of the more outstanding reviews that have been sitting around forever. There may come a point where I might reduce the load to two reviews a week and I considered the idea at one point, but for now, I’ve got more than enough material to continue onwards and I think I can stay up long enough to keep things going at a somewhat nominal rate.
In other video news, expect a new Sunday Gimmick Table tomorrow and if you’ve seen the little sample I posted a day or two ago, you’ll know what it’s about. The series will return next month with somewhat weekly episodes starting in March and continuing on for a couple months at least. Some of the stuff was recorded last year and held off until now. Other stuff is more than recent. Either way, it’s better late than never. And of course, there’s always the occasional DTM Rambles that might pop up… one of which could very well be the physical vs digital nugget that’s long been teased around these parts.
PPV Musings will continue to be posted every Wednesday. I have stuff planned and scheduled, but that can always change. I won’t bother with schedules and stuff like that until I’m certain things won’t change. Will see about next month.
I’ve been slowly but surely republishing some old stuff from the early Webstation and DTM Blog days (a.k.a. before the Blogger stuff). As I’m doing this, I’m also clearing off all the repeat posts off the old Blogger space, making sure that I have said posts here on this space before trashing them. As of yesterday night, that blog is down to less than a thousand posts. Just to give you a bit of context, that blog entered 2024 with close to 5,000 posts dating back to stuff from 1999. And that’s not even including the stuff that never saw the light of day.
Right now, I’m mostly focused on getting some current stuff happening, but every so often, I’ll go back and dig up some vintage stuff from the archives or clean up some of the old posts so that they’re mildly presentable. I’m hoping that by the end of this month, practically everything that there is left to transfer from the Blogger space will be brought over and I can leave that space open for… something else… if anything. I’m not sure, yet.
On a final note, some old comic book reviews have been restored; given fancy new header things and also a bit of a clean-up in some of the text. Expect more of this stuff to come up in the months ahead as we eventually start getting into the phase where we try to make this old shit seem as presentable to discerning eyes as humanly possible… hopefully without the part where we fail miserably at it.
Anyway, that’s the story for now and I’m sticking to it. Maybe next month’s State Of The Blog will be morely Stately or something.
Later, kids.
