(2024 Update: For the first time in a long time, I present the October 12th, 2002 edition of the Classic Bite Commentary. For some reason, the original post that labeled this as October 12th was just a copy of the October 2nd commentary and this was a thing for years. That’s been rectified now and you’ve got the actual commentary… which is something a bit different.)
Hey, kids. Not much to say today… just want to complain about some largely bad wrestling.
So I watched RAW… and you know… I’m trying to wonder what goes through the heads of the idiots that put this show together. Well, it’s mostly one idiot who happens to be a successful promoter making millions (if not billions) of dollars or whatever… but really, the shit that they pull off to try and get people to watch your shitty show is just mind-boggling.
You’re probably thinking it’s the idea of Raw Roulette, which is basically the WWE equivalent of “Spin The Wheel, Make The Deal” but without the funny mini-movies that are cheap and bad. I actually don’t mind that idea as a concept. Sure, it’ll result in some stupid shit and that’s been the case tonight as it’s nothing but random gimmick matches for the sake of it, but it makes things slightly interesting. No, what irked me was the ending of this show.
So the main event was a ladder match that was won by the team of Kane and RVD, who are now the new tag team champions. Hey, cool… two title for the Big Red Machine. Would’ve been nice if we had another for RVD, but I guess not. But then McSon-In-Law comes out (you know who I’m talking about) and he mentions the name Katie Vick before calling Kane a murderer. So is Katie Vick Kane’s long lost sister that he’s going to be feuding with at next year’s Wrestlemania? Is Katie Vick going to be played by a guy or something?
Dude, what the fuck am I watching here? Am I asking too much to have a decent fucking episode of RAW for once? Hell, Smackdown is a slightly better show, but then you have all the Billy & Chuck silliness that’s supposed to make me feel uncomfortable and instead, I’m just bored. And it’s not like the other wrestling show is any better. TNA hasn’t been a great show, but my god, these shows are getting worse. I saw last week’s TNA PPV (through magic means, nuff said) and it confounds me that this shit is still around. This may actually be worse than those WWA shows from Australia and some of the talent from those shows are even featured here!
I realize that many people don’t see the prime years of 1998-2001 as quality wrestling television, at least compared to stuff that came before. I’ve been trying to hunt down some old WWF tapes to catch some of the old stuff and to be honest, I don’t know what the big deal is. A lot of cartoony gimmicks and shit like that. I liked seeing some guys in earlier incarnations. The Smoking Gunns is a huge departure from Billy & Chuck or the guy who got knocked out by Butterbean. But other than that… maybe I need to get some of the better shows. Maybe some of those 97 shows because people tell me those were classic stuff. Tapes are cheap enough if I can find them. Maybe I’ll look into it.
Anyway, that’s it.
Later.
