21 Years Ago In TNA #12 – Not Doing A Best Of Show (September 4th, 2002)

TNA didn’t have a proper PPV event today; they’re aired a best of X-Division show instead. I didn’t watch it, but I’d thought that I would mention it here to keep the ball rolling, so to speak.

Anyway, the next “actual” PPV show would take place in a couple weeks because TNA didn’t do a show on 9/11. Don’t recall if it’s out of respect for those who lost their lives or because they just didn’t have money to do another one. Either way, there’s no weekly PPV and we’re given a brief respite.

With that said, I do have a PPV Musings for a couple TNA PPVs from later down the road. The good news is that both shows are pretty damned good.

21 Years Ago In TNA #11 – Oh Wait… Never Mind. (August 28th, 2002)

This PPV was a taped show, having been taped after the previous show, which I thought was actually pretty good… enough, at least. This is readily apparent in that the crowd isn’t as enthusiastic as they were in the last show… in fact, they were quite dead.

21 Years Ago In TNA #10 – Oh Sh!t! It’s A Genuinely Honest-To-Dixie Good Show Ya’ll! (August 21st, 2002)

You know what, kids? I was ready to call it quits on this experiment… I mean, there was no reason to go on. I already saw Truth win the NWA Title and as happy as I was to watch it, the stuff that followed was less than stellar. These shows were getting bad. I had no problem jumping off the train at number 10. In fact, I was dreading this show because I’m expecting more of the same and all I needed was that one push off the edge to call this whole thing off.

And then an amazing thing happened as I was watching this show; something that seemed almost impossible given what I had witnessed these past few weeks.

The show was good… not just good, but REALLY good.

In fact, I may go so far to say that I actually LIKED this show.

How ’bout that, huh?

21 Years Ago In TNA #09 – No Buys. No Money. (August 14th, 2002)

So I am going to be up front about this. Today’s musings will be focusing primarily on the main story that plays out during the show and less so on the undercard stuff, which only has one thing worth mentioning and that’s the triple threat X-Division title match that sees Low Ki defeat champ AJ Styles and Jerry Lynn to win the title in a pretty good match… and then there’s more crap with Disco and the Dupps. Monty Brown cuts a interview with Mike Tenay and then gets attacked by Elix Skipper.

None of that shit matters, m’kay? Because there’s the main reason why I was looking forward to this show and part of it contributes to the overall bullshit of this show.

21 Years Ago In TNA #08 – THE TRUTH… Shall Not Save This Show From Sucking (August 7th, 2002)

21 Years Ago In TNA #07 – Planting The Seeds Of TRUTH (July 31st, 2002)

21 years ago, on this very day… NWA-TNA had another terrible weekly PPV show that they got away with charging people money for. A lot of bullshit, a lot of garbage… How these assholes still stayed in business when THIS was the product they were offering is confounding to me.

21 Years Ago In TNA #06 – People Paid Money For This… (July 24th, 2002)

So here we are… week six into this NWA-TNA adventure, which means it’s the first show I’m watching after subscribing to the Impact Plus service, which houses many quality TNA PPVs that I would much rather watch, but instead, I’m doing this. Why the fuck am I even doing this? What do I have to gain by continuing to watch these dreadful shows on a weekly basis? I don’t even subject myself to RAWs from this period; the monthly PPVs were bad enough.

So I’m giving this experiment another five weeks and we’ll see if it’s worth continuing onwards.

21 Years Ago In TNA #04 – Testing My Patience (July 10th, 2002)

The fourth of five NWA-TNA Weekly PPVs available for free on Youtube is where I’m starting to feel a bit bored. It seems like they were dead set on selling someone the rights to a television show of sorts and when there were no offers, they opted to put the shows on PPV instead. The problem is that four “episodes” into this venture, this already feels like a bit of a sloth to get through; so much so that when it came time to sit down and do my weekly write-up for this blog, my mind drew a blank.

It’s actually pretty amazing that my only, real big takeaway is that The New Church – the new heel group headed by the Sinister Minister James Mitchell – has engaged in a feud with Jeff Jarrett – who is also a heel who keeps demanding a title shot that nobody in the NWA would grant him because they would rather have their reigning NWA World Champion defend the title against some Japanese wrestler nobody on this particular side of the globe has heard of. And for the people who are reading this expecting a full-blown recap, I hate to disappoint you folks, but I’m not really inclined to offer that.

Here’s the thing, right? These are not TV reports, reviews, recaps, or whatever the case may be. These are just quick things where I gather my thoughts on things that happen on the show that are worth mentioning. I mean I could go into great detail on the big X-Division eliminator match that saw Low-Ki earn himself a shot at AJ Styles’ title… but what can I say besides “it’s a great match with a lot of moves?” Because that’s all I’ve got.

So here are the notable bits… for whatever it’s worth…
