I had this on the DVR still and I figured I’d give it a watch. Not much to say in general because it was a lame duck show during a lame duck period of being stuck in a Friday Night death slot where nobody was watching while the NBA playoffs was a thing.

They started the show with the MMA Cage match between Jake Hager and Wardlow… and it was almost as good as any MMA match that I’ve seen in that I was almost passing out of boredom. Then Wardlow flipped Hager and I was back into it for a bit before Hager tapped him. Then MJF caused some trouble, hurting Jericho’s arm and even punching out Dean Malenko, who has had neck issues. All the old guys with bad necks are taking better bumps than half the roster in NXT. Go figure.

Other than that, it was one of those nothing Friday shows that also featured a Miro title defense. I like Miro’s new gimmick of being God’s favorite wrestler and thanking God for his hot wife, parodying all those fighters thanking God for their gifts in beating people up. That’s fun.

It’s May 19th… Mayor Glen knows what that means…

Not much to say about this show. Opened with a good Christian Cage/Matt Sydal match, fun tag match between the Acclaimed and Mox/Kingston, a really good match between Serena Deeb and Red Velvet, and finally, the Young Bucks retain the titles over the Varsity Blonds, only to get their shoes stolen by Mox and Kingston.

This was mostly about the promos, which were largely good… the only exception being that Jade person, but I’ll lay off her for now since she didn’t say that she was “that bitch.”

Promos, kids. The show had ’em. Great promo from the Blonds hyping up their match, telling us how the Bucks showed them things aren’t dark on that side of the ring and how the current Bucks are a far cry from those upstarts. There’s a good promo with Mox and Kingston hyping up their match with the Acclaimed, followed by a sick rap from Max Caster. There’s a nice bit with Jericho and Dean Malenko that calls back to a rather popular and “meme-worthy” segment from the olden days of WCW that I thought was pretty cute. Awesome Pinnacle promo from the dinner table, followed by a great Inner Circle promo.

Needless to say, lots of great building towards their PPV and probably a good idea to get it all out now before the playoffs starts fucking around with the scheduling. That move to TBS apparently can’t come soon enough.

Disclaimer: Shaq does not appear on this edition of AEW Dynamite. Shaq’s face does match my own reaction after watching this episode.

Well, it’s the week after le Blued And Goots show… and it’s time for another episode of Dynamite; perhaps one of the more baffling episodes of Dynamite yet.

To tell you the truth, I’ve got very little to say about this episode. I thought it was a fun show that passed by quickly, even with the big ol’ slog that was the QT Marshall vs. Billy Club Of The Gunn Club Club. To put it simply, there were a couple quality promo bits from the two groups partaking in that Blood & Guts match in a couple weeks and next week’s show is supposed to lay down the rules that will either confirm or denounce everyone’s suspicions that this is the AEW take on Wargames, a fun main event that saw Darby Allin retain the TNT title over Jungle Jack Boy Perry., and there was an Elite segment interrupted by Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston ramming a truck into the Elite trailer, with the Elite pulling a disappearing act that seemed baffling due to the awkward editing, but could be explained away with a simple “they got away quickly” or a less simple “misdirection” angle.

As far as the women’s match is concerned? Good stuff, with Shida retaining the Women’s title over Tay Conti in a fierce match. Conti is something of a hot thing at the moment and chatter online would argue that this was her time to get a big win and possibly a run with the title. And while I wouldn’t have minded that since Conti is pretty good for someone of her skill level and is popular enough to warrant a title run, the fact of the matter is that this wasn’t her time, regardless of her popularity. As it is, the person most likely to unseat Shida would be Britt Baker and I feel like having Conti win the title here, only to lose it to Britt a couple weeks later would be doing everyone a disservice.

Like I said, not a whole lot to say about this one.

So Dynamite broke a million viewers this past Wednesday… and all it took was Triple H being forced to work Tuesdays… again.

My musings this week will be extremely brief, since last week’s episode left me in such a sour mood that I no longer have the energy to muster much enthusiasm for this one, which was a better show, at least.

Let’s get this over with.

History was made on the seventh day of April in the year twenty-twenty-one. It is a day that will live in immediate infamy before being promptly forgotten about, for it is the day where AEW aired the first episode of Dynamite that I actively didn’t like.

To be fair, it wasn’t all bad and it’s entirely possible that I was just in a sour mood, but the show certainly left me in even more of a sour state coming out of it. So I’ll blow through this quickly, but be forewarned that the usual happy or morosely calm musings is nowhere to be found. Instead, you’re getting grumpy musings and there’s a bunch of things that made me grumpy.

Other than that… hell of a St. Patty’s Day parade in Jacksonville last week. Such a big deal that it took me a week to process and put into words. Hopefully, I’ll get last night’s musings up a little sooner.

Eddie Kingston had panic attacks of past trauma and that’s why he sold for sparklers like they were an explosion. He and Mox argue as to whether Kenny wanted to blow them up or not, but agree that Impact must have paid for the bomb. They’re buddies again, because the World title does weird things to you.

And really, what else did you expect them to do? Continue like there had been a kaboom? What is this, WWE?

All things considered, I thought they did a great job covering up for the faulty bomb. And Kenny and Callis taking pleasure in depriving Moxley of the big finale and leaving him with utter embarrassment is the best way to go with this and roll with it. Sometimes, shit happens and you roll with it as best as you can and they did just that. Now, would it have been better had the bomb gone off? Sure, but it didn’t and they got rid of that bomb without a hitch.

Not a whole lot to say about this one show. Darby retained the TNT title against Scorpio Sky in a good match, after which Darby showed some good sportsmanship and Scorpio beat him up in response. Sting did his weekly interview and gets challenged by Lance Archer… apparently, we’ll be getting a Spin The Wheel gimmick in the near future and if not, I will be sorely disappointed.

There was a women’s match that was the drizzling shits… someone needs to explain the appeal of Maki Itoh to me because I’ve only seen her twice and I already want her off my screen. If it isn’t the bad singing, it’s the faker than fake mic shots on Shida. And please don’t give me that “it’s supposed to be bad” bullshit. I ain’t buying it.

She’s not even the cutest. That goes to Kelly Kelly.
