Originally, I was going to go for a Poop Emoji as the banner to signify what this PPV represented, but I couldn’t find a decent looking one that isn’t three pixels big, so we’ll settle for the stock bored kitty. In any event… WWE POOP, er, I mean Fastlane!

WWF Over The Edge 1998
So, for no reason whatsoever… and because I’ve had this write-up on my hard drive just sitting there, I’ll be musing on an old WWF Pay-Per-View event from 1998, when the Attitude Era was in full swing. Here’s a fun fact: this was the first full WWF PPC that I ever saw back in the day and was probably the show that sold me on getting the PPVs on a regular basis. It was a fun ride and that’s all I’ve got for an intro.
Sad digression note before the break: there are two WWF PPVs that bares the Over The Edge moniker; today’s subject matter that took place in 98 and the following year’s PPV. The second OTE PPV is the one where Owen Hart lost his life in that accident. Before anyone asks, I will NOT be talking about that show anytime soon for the simple reason that I don’t have the show. So… I thought I’d get that out of the way.
Anyway, digression over. Let’s get on with some musings of an ancient show.
WWE Elimination Chamber 2017
So I suppose the good news is that we’ve averted another John Cena vs. Randy Orton match main eventing a Wrestlemania. Thank heavens for small favors, as the old saying goes.
The bad news, however, is that this was a completely and utterly worthless PPV showing. Unfortunately, you could pretty much say that about any PPV outing from WWE in the months between the Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania. Quite frankly, it’d probably be best if we killed off the February and March PPVs and just settled for a long, seed-planting build on the TV shows. Who knows? Somebody might actually watch the damn things for once.
But in any event, here’re my quick thoughts on this Elimination Chamber PPV event that, sadly, didn’t hold my attention for too long.
WWE Roadblock: End Of The Line 2006 (Take 2)
Didn’t we already have a Roadblock show in 2016?
The answer, of course, is yes… back in March of this year, which was a WWE Network special that saw then-World champion HHH defeat Dean Ambrose to retain his title in the main event. Funny how I can remember the main event of a minor Network show, but not so much for the biggest show of the year… and yes, the write-up for that is forthcoming.
So here we are; last month’s RAW offering gave us ROADBLOCK: END OF THE LINE which wins for most redundancies in a wrestling PPV title. Like the TLC show, I held off watching this live last month because it wasn’t worth the effort, but since I had time to fill, I decided to give this a watch… and completely found out that I was correct in skipping this the first time.

WWE TLC 2016
And so here we are. A little later than usual, but for good reason.
See, last month, I decided to forgo watching the minor WWE ppvs on offer in December (Smackdown’s TLC show and Raw’s Roadblock show) since a lot of the stuff was either going to be retread territory (another AJ Styles vs Dean Ambrose match, yet ANOTHER Baby Flair vs. Sasha Banks match) or stuff that didn’t interest me in the slightest (Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens… most of that RAW card to be honest.) However, I PVR’ed the shows and ended up watching them during the couple days I had off. So today, you’re not only getting the Smackdown effort (what you’re reading now), but also the RAW effort in a follow-up post.
Anyway, let’s get to it.
WWE Survivor Series 2016
Bill Goldberg returned to the ring for the first time in twelve years to beat Brock Lesnar with two spears and a jackhammer in less than two minutes. That was the greatest main event in WWE history.
WWE Hell In A Cell 2016
The above picture and quotation sums up my feelings immensely, but nonetheless, some brief (and I mean BRIEF) thoughts on last Sunday’s show. My thoughts will be somewhat brief here.
WWF Badd Blood 1997
Badd Blood, a WWF In Your House PPV show that aired on October 5, 1997, is known for a few things. It’s the day where Brian Pillman was found dead in his hotel room. It’s the show where Owen Hart won the Intercontinental championship in a tournament final to set-up the long-awaited rematch against Stone Cold Steve Austin, whose neck he nearly broke with a botched piledriver in a prior match. It’s that one show where they did the showcase of all the old NWA legends that Kevin Dunn (allegedly) didn’t want to do.
But more than anything, if there is but one thing that Badd Blood is known for… it’s Hell In A Cell. This is the show where it all began, kids. And since tomorrow we’re having a Hell In A Cell PPV event, I figure I might as well give some quick musings on the show.
WWE No Mercy 2016
A week later and I’ve got some semblance of content going for the next couple months, at least. However, don’t be surprised if there’s another week-long interruption around that time as well. This whole “daily post” thing is still a work in progress and withIn any event, last week had a Smackdown PPV called No Mercy. And while one would be best served playing the Nintendo 64 game of the same name, the show itself has a couple worthwhile matches. In fact, let’s start the show with one of them right now and NOT main event with the other.
WWE Clash Of Champions 2016
Two weeks later and it’s Raw’s turn to throw out a brand-exclusive PPV. The name of the show is Clash of Champions, which is really just Night Of Champions with some inklings of an old WCW being reused. I honestly don’t know why they changed the name other than to remind people of WCW’s occasional television specials… that aired on TBS for free… and was called Clash Of The Champions. Why couldn’t they add “the” into the title? It would’ve sounded better.
Anyway, let’s get to it with some super quick thoughts.
