NXT In Your House (June 2022)

You assholes thought that I was going to skip this one, did ya? You didn’t think that I wouldn’t follow through on keeping up with these NXT In Your Houses despite this not being the same NXT as the previous two?
Yeah, well, I’m probably stopping after this one.
For those needing further context, I have not seen a single episode of NXT 2.0 – the retooled version that went from being HHH’s attempt to be the King Of The Indies to a true developmental brand featuring a bunch of random athletic rookies with dumb names and gimmicks. The most I would consume is the occasional clip here and there, which is the most I could take before emptying my bowels. I’ve heard nothing but negative things about this show and my brief samplings of the show have not painted a pretty picture… which is appropriate considering “pretty picture” is the furthest thing from my mind when it comes to the overall visual presentation of this NXT 2.0 program.
Regardless, I’m willing to give this a fair shake. More often than not, the NXT specials formerly known as Takeovers are usually highly regarded fare and at the very least, I’ll expect more in-ring action than insipid skits. Despite this, I’ve got my hard liquor on standby in the event that I may need it.

NXT ArRival (February 2014)

NXT Arrival – yeah, I’m not sticking with their weird formatting – you’ll have to settle for the title if that’s your thing – has a couple distinctions. Not only is it the first ever NXT PPV-style special event to air on the WWE Network, but it is also the first live television event to air on said Network, as it had launched a few days prior to… let’s just say “less than stellar” reactions. I’m not sure I could talk about the WWE Network’s early days because Canada didn’t get it until much later and only the live feed which ended up being a premium channel on cable systems; the On-Demand Stuff not coming along until much, MUCH later.
But enough about that; let’s talk NXT Arrival because naturally, I have not seen this one. And with Triple H taking the creative reigns of WWE, we might as well look at the first major WWE Network event under the NXT banner. We’ll dive into the last few Summerslams starting next week.

NXT TakeOver: In Your House 2021

Last year, NXT did an empty arena In Your House-style throwback show… and apparently, people liked it so much that they did another one last year. Anyway, I recently dug up the old WWF In Your House musings I wrote a couple years back during the pandemic days and posted them on the blog. As it turned out, said NXT In Your House was also included as part of the package and since I did watch that one, it’s only fair that I give this show a fair shake, especially if they end up doing another one this year.

So consider this a bit of a bonus musings of sorts.

NXT Takeover: In Your House (June 2020)

Yeah, so I wasn’t going to watch this show. Partly due to the WWE PPV moratorium that’s becoming as enforced as a WWE stipulation, but also because I haven’t watched much NXT as of late and the thought of having to sit through another one of these sad empty arena PPVs didn’t see well with me, especially after how I felt about the last one. However, some folks I knew who watched the show told me good things about it and given the choice between this and the Extreme Rules debacle  that I’ve heard less than good things about, I didn’t have to think hard

Besides, with all the In Your House PPVs in the bag in some form or fashion, I might as well put a cap by watching this throwback. And this is definitely a throwback in terms of theme and such.

NXT: Takeover New York 2019

So after what seemed like an eternity through the fifty circles of Hell… it felt like fifty circles, at least… I was able to finish my long-rambling Ramblemania write-up. Unfortunately, you won’t be reading it until this Saturday, so in lieu of that, I decided to watch a couple other shows that took place during that weekend and do quick write-ups for them. We’ll look at a couple this week before Ramblemania 35, but others will pop up along the way when I’m short on material.

So we begin with the NXT Takeover show from Brocolli Center in New York. This took place on a Friday, so as to not interfere with the ROH/NJPW G1 show from MSG… which I have NOT seen, but have heard mixed reactions to.

NXT Takeover: Wargames (Nov. 2017)

Yeah, sorry. I would’ve had this up sooner, but quite honestly, I wasn’t feeling it.

Maybe it was the fact that I watched a rather pointless Survivor Series PPV with only one worthwhile match before getting around to watching this show. Maybe it was due to the fact that while I was intrigued by WWE bringing back an old WCW concept, my mind wondered how they were going to screw this up rather than anticipating the moment. Maybe it was because of all the praise this show has been getting, deserving or otherwise. Or maybe it’s because I haven’t been watching the weekly NXT show in a good while and other than a handful of names, I hardly know anyone on the card.

Whatever the case may be, I would watch the replay whenever I could and even load it up on the Network… and no matter how hard I try, I simply couldn’t get into this show. As such, my musings will be very brief, save for two matches in particular.

NXT Takeover: Brooklyn (Aug. 2015)

Some generally quick thoughts on the recent NXT Takeover show from Brooklyn. Apparently, Summerslam (featuring a bunch of matches I don’t care about) is also emanating from Brooklyn Sunday night… don’t expect a write-up until Tuesday, since I’ll be gone for the whole day.
