WCW Fall Brawl 2000

So after some period of inactivity and revisiting old Summerslam PPVs, we’re bringing back the wrestling PPV musings on Wednesday afternoons. And what better show to kick off this new session of weekly incoherent musings on old shows than to check out an old WCW PPV from the year 2000, built on the premise of Goldberg refusing to follow a script.

Good old WCW in the year 2000; an absolute clusterfuck of an era where nothing goes write and every week, a new contender for worst wrestling program on television is crowned.

WCW Capital Combat 1990

Seriously, the banner says it all.

This whole show was built around one thing; Robocop making his first (and to date, ONLY) wrestling appearance. I’m sure the actual show will not live up to the hype and legend that has been inflated by internet lore, but fuck it, I want to watch this one regardless. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

Aside from everything, of course…

WCW Greed 2001 (The Last Ever WCW PPV!)

An old picture of Dr. Ashen facepalming is the perfect way to describe WCW’s last-ever Pay-Per-View offering.

This is it, ladies and gentlemen. This is where it all ended for World Championship Wrestling. A week later, WCW would air its final episode of Monday Nitro and become a distant memory… aside from its name being associated with an offshoot stable for a lame “invasion” angle on WWF television.

WCW Sin (January 2001)

So WCW in 2001 was in pretty dire straits. They’re about to be sold, they supposed get bought out by one group but then not really, then their TV gets cancelled and finally they get bought by WWF. But apparently, the last few months of TV was actually tolerable compared to what came before. So this month, we’ll be looking at the last three WCW PPVs ever conceived – unless you want to count that Super Slow-Down show from Australia last year. And then after that, who knows?

WCW/nWo Uncensored ’98

Yeah, I saw this one back in the day… I don’t remember much about it, but I doubt it’ll be as entertaining as that one show where Eric Bischoff beat Vince McMahon via countout in a make-believe street fight or something.

Anyway, while March saw the Austin era begin at Wrestlemania, WCW fans had this show to look forward to… well, let’s jump into it.

WCW Uncensored ’96

A couple years ago, we covered the very first WCW Uncensored event from 1995; a “unique” concept PPV that would comprise nothing but gimmick matches and things of that nature, similar to the current day WWE Extreme Rules PPV concept, except somewhat goofier… I guess. NowI covered the ’95 version since I had that on tape, but never got around to watching the remaining five editions of this series until I got access to the VOD aspect of the WWE Network. As such, we’ll be looking at the remaining shows this month and… well, it’ll be not boring… I hope.

Today’s subject matter is WCW Uncensored 1996, home of the Doomsday Cage match where Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage take one EIGHT men in a triple decker cage!
