AEW Fight For The Fallen 2019

Two weeks after the gamer-centric Fyter Fest, All Elite Wrestling presents their third event called Fight For The Fallen, a charity wrestling show where all a large portion of profits go to victims of gun violence, which is a worthy cause. Meanwhile, the show is offered for free on the BR Live service… provided you sign up for said service, adding that barrier of entry.

Meanwhile, over at the WWE Network around that same time, WWE opted to live stream the EVOLVE promotion’s 10th anniversary show, featuring a couple NXT guys wrestling in matches. My lack of familiarity with the EVOLVE promotion ultimately contributed to my decision in going for the AEW show, though I did manage to sample some of the EVOLVE show and it might be worth giving a closer look. Even the Extreme Rules PPV that took place the day after (which I’m not watching, by the way; I’m holding out until Summerslam) apparently got some good reviews, so it was definitely a good weekend of wrestling in this continent if you’re into that sort of thing.

But let’s fight for the fallen… and then see it all fall off a cliff.

AEW Fyter Fest 2019

So this is All Elite Wrestling’s second ever event, named to mock the failed Fyre Festival and a show that ran co-currently with the CEO Fighting Game Championships event that is a thing for some reason… well, whatever, that’s not my sort of thing, but there’s a community for that sort of thing, so good on you… until you end up being a douche.

Anyway, I watched this on the Bleacher Report Live, where the show was airing for free and coincidentally, it did work, which was a worry because I didn’t think it would, but there you go. And it had a start time of 7:30, which I thought was early, but then realized that it was the pre-show start time and the actual event started an hour later… okay, so I guess I’m watching the pre-show.

WWE Stomping Grounds 2019

So a three-day long weekend meant that I was somehow able to find time to watch WWE’s incredible Stomping Grounds PPV that was widely anticipated by the masses… okay, that’s a lie. It’s a card featuring a bunch of rematches from a show nobody watch, with pair-ups that nobody in their right minds could honestly care about.

Just as a bit of a primer, Sunday night was busy and when I got back, I flipped through Apple TV and logged onto the network, where I discovered that the show was still on. And what did I see? Baron Corbin making his entrance and cameras cutting to the shot above quickly before cutting back to Corbin. This amuses me enough to take a picture (no screenshooting device at the moment) and plaster it on my Twitter soundboard for the lulz. Turns out it’s gotten quite a response and I’m not quite sure why… but hey, somebody liked it. I just hope they don’t follow the channel because nothing of value pops up and I like that there are no followers on there.

But I digress… on with the show. Unfortunately.

WWE’s THE BASH! (June 2009 Show)

I’m saving the other BLP show for next week… right now, I’m going to take you back to the past… wait, that damn sure ain’t it.

So we’re jumping back ten years to June 2009, where WWE is holding (one of) their June PPVs entitled The Bash. Now if you were a long time fan, you would probably wonder why they didn’t call it The Great American Bash, which was an old WCW PPV name that they brought back to life in 2004 and made it an annual thing… because WWE, even back in 2009.

I’m going into this show completely blind, as I haven’t seen this show in a good long while… if at all, to be honest with you. But maybe the show will refresh my memory and we’ll see how it goes.

Black Label Pro’s Big Trouble In Little Crown Point (November 2018)

I’m not touching the friday show… especially if the next major Network special is going to feature the same crap in two weeks along with a side order of even more crap that I’ve seen in past shows that weren’t all that good to begin with… actually, now that I think about it, I might not want to watch the next show….. that’s how bad it’ s looking to be.

So you know what? We’re switching gears… I’m gonna give the recent BLP show a watch, but I need to go back and watch the Little Trouble In Crown Point show to catch up on the whole Super Chico/Marko Stunt feud that is heating up my wallet for some reason. Fun fact: while this show was a thing, a day earlier, WWE had booked their second Blood Money PPV from that country we’re not supposed to talk about… and well, guess which I’d rather watch.

Hint: it’s from Crown Point.

AEW Double Or Nothing (May 2019 PPV)

So this is it… the inaugural pay-per-view wrestling extravaganza from All Elite Wrestling, Double Or Nothing. I bought the show, but unfortunately, was unable to catch it live due to other commitments. However, I was able to watch it Sunday morning and… well, it was… a thing that happened.

But what kind of thing happened? Let’s get into it.

WWE Money In The Bank 2019

Good news, everybody! I watched last weekend’s Money In The Bank pay-per-view… and it was better than last year’s absolutely atrocious Backlash PPV! Glory be to… never mind. This was a 3 1/2 hour PPV and yet for the most part, went by so quickly that I was able to watch the show in one sitting, which is amazing. Don’t get too excited, because the show isn’t something I would call “one for the history books.”

Unless, of course, you work for WWE… or are just a fan of WWE who watches nothing but WWE… in which case… well, never mind.

TNA Hardcore Justice 2010

So we started May with a lookback at One Night Stand from 2005, the ECW reunion show that WWE held. Then we did the following year’s iteration that kickstarted the much-maligned WWECW brand. And then we looked at Bret Hart vs. Tom Magee… but we all knew that it was only a matter of time before I got around to writing a musing on TNA’s own reunion dubbed Hardcore Justice. And so here we are… again.

Back in the day, I did write about the event and only managed to see bits and pieces of the show… but beyond that, I’ve never seen the full show in question. Everyone thought it was a bad idea – well, the TNA fans who will cheer anything thought it was a great idea because they’re sheep – and when the show came and went, it was either the greatest thing ever made or it was the worst. Even without seeing the whole show – it’s possible I might’ve, but just forgot about it – I thought it was a bad idea and the few clips I’ve seen (along with a video montage featuring running commentary from a Bryan & Vinny audio show) convinced me that my missing this shoe was a fantastic idea.

And so, here we are in 2019. I’m about to watch this Hardcore Justice show in its entirety and after having seen the previous two shows from WWE, we’ll see if this show gave the ECW brand the final chapter that it deserved.

Spoiler alert: it didn’t.

ECW One Night Stand 2006

A year ago, WWE brought back Extreme Championship Wrestling from the dead for one night only and produced a show worthy of the old Philly-based promotion. And people raved… and then there were rumors of an ECW revival; first as an internet-only show and then eventually a weekly television show on the Sci-Fi Channel… eventually, we’d know what happen, but that’s not for the here and now

ECW One Night Stand 2006 was partly a sequel to the first ONS, but it also served as a prelude to the new weekly ECW television show that would debut the following Tuesday.
