X-Wing and TIE Fighter Grace Steam… Now It's Their Turn To Bitch About Missing CD Versions

For those who didn’t get the game on GOG.com for whatever ungodly reason, Steam just got the X-Wing series recently. This includes X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-Wing Vs. TIE Fighter, and X-Wing Alliance, considered widely to be some of the finest space combat simulator games ever conceived and one of the best reasons to be PC gaming back int the day. However, in regards to the first two games, you’re only getting the original DOS versions and the updated Windows release; the middle of the road enhanced CD-ROM Collector’s Editions – considered to be the definitive versions – are not included.

Naturally, Steam users would be iffed.
Meanwhile, GOG.com just announced that they uploaded those very same versions of the game after quite a bit of complaining on the part of users. So for roughly the same price, you could GET THREE versions of two classic space sim games… and it doesn’t include DRM. And if you already bought the games when they were first released, then you get the new versions for free. (Note: If you don’t see three versions of X-Wing or TIE Fighter on your shelf, you might have to refresh your account, which you can do by clicking this link.)
So, screw you, Steam. HA!
Okay… back to WWE 2K15.

He Actually Said This

“It’s a very, very, very hard thing to do. You have to say, ‘I have to move on,’ and everything in your body says, ‘Don’t. You can’t.’ These are my kids. I sold them to the white slavers that take these things and, and… heh, heh, heh…”

-George Lucas on selling Star Wars to Disney
He has since apologized for the remark

(2020 Update: He probably shouldn’t have apologized in hindsight, but whatever…)

YES! X-Wing And The Almighty TIE FIGHTER Available On GOG.com!

So, X-Wing and TIE Fighter have finally made their way to GOG.com. And even better, they come in both vintage DOS versions and upgraded Windows versions. Not much else to say except…

Hell frickin’ yes.

For those wondering, the vintage DOS versions are the original floppy versions with expansions and not the original CD-ROM Collector’s Editions that had slightly more content and slightly better graphics. If you want that stuff, you have to go for the Windows versions, which require a controller to play and ditches the amazing iMuse music of the DOS version for the generic John Williams soundtrack. A bit of a pity, but not a total loss. And at the very least, they work.

So I say again… Hell frickin’ yes.

Dark Horse Comics Losing Star Wars License In 2015

This shouldn’t come as a surprise. Disney owns Star Wars. Disney also owns Marvel. So why renew with a third party comic publisher when they have their own? One has to wonder what is going to happen when twenty years worth of Star Wars comics, though. Will they be reprinted under the Marvel banner? Or forgotten and cast aside in favor of a possible new universe?

Or does anyone really care here?
