Minus Five Star Notifications

Funny little anecdote that I can’t help but share…

I have a phone set-up where anytime I would receive a notification, it is announced with a good ol’ hearty “Minus Five Stars” courtesy of Figure Four Weekly’s Bryan Alvarez. I do this because every time I get a notification, it’s annoying. And so I gave it a sound that reflected my thoughts on the gimmick.
Well, while I was having coffee with a couple buddies, one of them was asking me about something that I don’t recall the peculiar and then before I can answer, a nice, loud “Minus Five Stars” is heard from my pocket, which scared the piss out of everybody on the table, myself included.
We get a good laugh out of it now, but I get the feeling this is going to get tiresome after a while.
Tomorrow should be seeing the RAW X: Tenth Anniversary special musings… this one covering the special DVD release since I have it. And if all goes well, there will either be a new review or a House Show special. We’ll see what happens.

Started Writing Again

Or more accurately, starting typing on a keyboard in the hopes of putting together a fictional narrative for people to read.

It’s been a good long while since I’ve sat down and decided to write a story of some kind. The itch has been going on about doing some creative writing in varying degrees of actual creative and I think that last little Star Trek thing with the Double Eagle might’ve scratched that itch a little bit more to a degree that I simply can’t ignore the thing.

Writing little blog things and things to read into a microphone is cool and all… and even the occasional doodle and silly comic seems like a quick way to get something out there, but there’s something satisfying about telling a longer story and just get some of that creative energy out there, regardless of whether it ends up being a good idea or not.

So, there you go. Another hobby I’ve decided to revive among many.

More clutter… oh noes.

End Of The World This Sunday… Yes… Again…

So according to this Express.Co.Uk article, the world is supposed to end on June 24. Because we’ve all heard this crap before. Then again, this same article claims that a mythical being was supposed to show up on April 23rd and I’ve heard nothing regarding any sort of alien creature appearing in the skies.

Who knows? Maybe June 24th is the day Thanos collects all the Infinity Gems/Stones/Whatevers and uses them to wipe out half of all life in the universe or something.

So is it worth making a silly video out of this whole mess?

Probably not.

Last Sunday Really Pissed Me Off

Well, no, not really… had a wonderful Sunday.

For those who are wondering – that would be about three of you – I haven’t seen the PPV beyond a couple matches that happened to be on as background noise during the week. The matches turned out to be the Daniel Bryan Danielson vs. Consensual Penis/Big Cass and later on, the Ronda match, where Jonathan Coachman said the stupidest line on commentary that prompted the Quotable reaction that was posted a couple days ago. Anything I know about Asuka being turned into Just Another Geek, I’ve seen via online clips.

I’m not planning a write-up on the show nor do I plan on sitting down and watching it; the show’s simply too damn long and there wasn’t much to look forward to. I will say that of the two matches I’ve seen, it was… fine. Bryan’s match with Big Cass was better than their previous outing, but nothing to write home about. And as far as Rousey is concerned, I thought her match with Nia Jax was fine. I’m not the biggest Rousey fan in the world and didn’t care for her UFC stuff or her bored expressions that people are passing off as “death glares” or whatever, but from what I’ve seen, she’s made the transition rather nicely and, provided the booking doesn’t go to shit, she might actually do well in WWE.

Let’s just hope she doesn’t become the next Roman Reigns.

So while that show was taking place on Sunday, I was playing an old NES game called Faria, which is a hybrid role-playing game combined with Zelda-style overhead action bits. It’s a slow start and for anyone who wants to complain about how Dragon Warrior I has long grind sessions, play this game, where virtually every enemy you kill is worth one point. This may change as the game progresses, but still… bah.

The planned thing that I have on Friday that would’ve been used for a Power Rangers Reflections Redux is on hold for now… on the bright side, I can push BACK the PRRR and it’ll be featured this coming Friday. It’s not as wholesome as other entries as it covers a gimmick episode, but it is a new entry, for whatever that’s worth.

Once I get back from real life stuff, I’ll be testing out the new headsets by recording a quick House Show. I did some quick recordings here and there beforehand and things sound rather promising once all the drivers and set-up doohickies were set-up. This isn’t going to replace the Yeti when it comes to the heavy stuff like reviews and stuff, but it could be work with commentaries, house shows, and possibly even a certain audio program that has been long dormant.

Fingers crossed.

Mike Tenay's Vaporwave

Former wrestling announcer and current Vegas fellow Mike Tenay fell on hard times and resorted to Vaporwave music. Please do him a favor and buy some of his albums (or download them for free) from his bandcamp page.

Disclaimer: Mike Tenay did not actually make these tunes, but some other dude using his name and likeness. Still, it’s some sweet and soothing tunes that I often play whenever I’m going on long drives or doing some deep creative stuff.

Slowly But Surely Getting There

So… good news on the leg front. I’ve been walking around a bit more and was able to squeeze in a session of SFB with my brother. If all goes well, I should be back on my feet in a week or so and business can return to normal.

Just a quick post this time around. But I’ll be back later on with news on the future of the blog. (Good news, I hope.)

Later,
Dave.

Leg

Hello, everyone.

So I guess an update is in order since the somewhat cryptic posts that I left this past Friday. And that update is that I had a brief stay at the hospital due to a blood clot in my leg that has been causing me some rather sufficient pain. And because pain and me go hand in hand like a Roman Reigns Wrestlemania Main Event and an approving audience, I spent the better part of a Thursday at the emergency ward and another trip on Friday morning to get the necessary treatments, which includes a year’s worth of anticoagulants and some light activities.
Since part of that prescription means spending most of my time in bed and nowhere closing to a seating position, I spent the better part of the weekend bed-ridden while making minute efforts in trying to walk under my own power. The good news in this regard is that I’m slowly but surely starting to get enough strength in my leg that I can walk around (with some difficulty, but not too much) on my power for about fifteen minutes several times a day.
The bad news is that I’m still a long ways to go before I can comfortably sit at a desk to get shit done. And that means the period of inactivity here on the blog – save for the few text posts I have in reserve – continues and may very well continue until the end of the month. In fact, I’m sort of sneaking this one post in and my leg isn’t holding up very well. So I guess I’ll be doing more walking and lying on my back.
On the bright side, however, being incapacitated means I’m able to relax and brainstorm a few ideas. Possibly even getting stuff ready to go when I’m ready to get stuff done. I’m aiming for May to get back to work (both online and in real life) and a week or so later should see videos return in a big way. I’ve lost a lot of time because of this clot and I want to catch up as much as possible.
So I bid you adieu for now and would like to give a piece of advice; if something seems off, don’t wait until the last possible moment before it gets serious. Get it checked out before it becomes something bad.
Anyway, got to go.
Later,
Dave

A Bunch Of Random Crap

So, a couple folks have been wondering why there hasn’t been much RAW talk on the blog, considering they started building towards Wrestlemania and also they recently had the Ultimate Deletion that saw Bray Wyatt get deleted and stuff. Well, it boils down to a couple reasons.

1 – I’ve been recovering from a cold. Hence the lack of frequent “worthwhile” posts such as videos and stuff.

2 – I haven’t had the need to watch RAW in years and whatever I might’ve missed, I can easily catch on Youtube via official clips. No need to sit through three hours of stuff.

Right now, there’s nothing on the “road to Wrestlemania” that has me remotely interested in the show beyond a strictly superficial level, but with news of Daniel Bryan Danielson being cleared to compete, I may be tempted to follow the road a little more closely… but not too closely, because I’ve got stuff to catch up on.

In other news, I’ve been lagging on the movie watching bit as of late. Off the top of my head, the last movie that I can recall going to the theatre to watch was The Last Jedi and since then, there hasn’t been much that piqued my interest. No, not even the modern-day blaxploitation film Black Panther has garnered much interest from me. I don’t know, man. There’s nothing on the waves or on the tube that has me really hooked as of late. I’ve dabbled on some of the Marvel stuff on Netflix, but after Defenders, I was done.

Now I just stick with binging on old episodes of Star Trek, Power Rangers, and other stuff. And mostly for the purposes of trying to turn those viewing experiences into material for the blog… which may or may not be considered a bad thing, I don’t know.

So I decided to make the plunge and donate a couple bucks of Classic Game Room’s Patreon page so that I could check out the new Classic Game Room 2085 show that started earlier this month. This new show is available on Amazon Prime… in the U.S. Outside of the U.S., you’re shit out of luck, which means signing on to the Patreon and checking out the shows there. And in hindsight, I’m glad that I DIDN’T make the plunge to Prime, as there was no way I could honestly justify going with a one-year commitment for a service that would have me watch just one show.

So, about Classic Game Room 2085… it’s essentially the same Classic Game Room that you got for the past couple years, except much longer and with more stuff within. Each episode features a game review, some viewer mail, and a couple other features depending on the theme of the show. I want to say that the show feels like a step up from the smaller reviews, but the truth is it’s really more of the same. Now for me, that’s fine and the longer format feels a bit more flexible, but if you didn’t care for the recent reviews on the old Youtube channel, then this new 2085 variation isn’t going to change your mind any better.

Anyway, I’m going to see if I can get back into the groove of finding my voice so I can start dubbing videos again. I desperately need to catch up in that regard, but on the bright side, most of the text stuff that’s on tap to be posted in the near future is pretty much done and will publish on schedule. So that’s one less headache to worry about.

Later, folks.
